If Britain went with .50 instead of .303 guns in the late 30s i wounder how big a difference they would have made in 1940.

Not a lot, since in the late'30s, Britain couldn't get much .50 cal ammunition. Later in the war it was able to manufacture some .50 cal but never really had the large amounts of ammo that the US did. The reason they were using .303 was because it was a known calibre, and in plentiful supply. The thing that might have made a difference early on for Britain was if they could have got 20 mm Hispano cannons working well earlier in the war (they were experimenting with them in Spitfires and Hurricanes during the Battle of Britain but they kept jamming after 1 or 2 shots)

I was in the last event in February flying a 109. We were at the start of the match and it wasn't going bad by any means, my flight had engaged two Hurricanes and both went down and some other flights had some kills. Most of us on the German side had one maybe two kills. Then I look at the scoreboard, 4. Smigol already had 4 kills. After being in the game for about 20 minutes smigol had 4 kills. Goes to show just how good Smigol is.
