His son is a murderer and the attorney wants it out of jail because he is a college student and not kept in jail because he killed someone and seriously injured another. I'm not sure, though, that the fact that the U.S. has many traffic deaths is due to lawyers and hospitals profiting from this. I believe that it's a lot more complicated than that and a lot has to do with American culture also where individuality is highly valued over conformity and rule following. As such there's a high percentage of selfish behaviors that neglet to think of others when acting out one's irresponsible behaviors. I'm assuming you're referring only to automobile deaths.

The penalty should be life imprisonment. He was driving at 131 mph (with no headlights). The suspect has no respect for the law, his own safety, and the lives of others. This tragedy could have easily been avoided if his attitude hadn't stunk.

I think this is the first time nobody can blame the parents. They have honor and took accountability for something they had no control over. 130 in a 30 with no headlights is a personal choice.
The first time? They get it wrong about 95% of the time. Parents are automatically blamed every by these know- it- alls. Despite the best efforts of a vast majority of parents, their offspring can go astray for a wide variety of reasons completely unrelated to their upbringing.

We had an 18 yr old that had wrecked 3 cars at high speed then ran at red light at 112mph in an Audi, slammed into a minivan and killed 4 kids under 10 and their mom. This was in Seattle. The judge gave him a $100k bond. The public was irate. Sometimes the only significant jail time they will see is this time. Good job judge. Another case a Chinese national killed a passenger in her car. High speed wreck she fled to China. It happens. It’s horrible

I feel bad for the parents too, but the blame is not theirs I would say. It is not uncommon to have very decent parents have bad kids. I believe it is a genetic thing, from somewhere back in the family tree. Self centered, lack of critical thinking abilities, number of factors involved I am sure. I say genetic from first hand knowledge. I have two daughters. Both brought up exactly the same way. One is very responsible, the other has some bad tendencies just as I had when I was a kid, same things, not kidding. It is so obvious to me. That kid though, had no understanding of the gravity of what he was doing, zero common sense, zero critical thinking, zero concern for others. I really cannot have sympathy for such a menace.

I use to live in Korea as a teacher and they get very embarrassed and angry when their children mess up because they believe it reflects poorly on them. They probably won't talk to him anymore. His lawyer saying he is not a flight risk is not going to keep innocents safe on the roads if he is not kept in jail.
He may not be a flight risk, but if he has been under court orders which he has ignored, then he is a danger to the community and he must be held.

What's the audacity? Most Americans would be giving news conferences that their son is an angel and would never do anything like that and hold up pictures when they were 6 years old and would be upset that they were even charged. Depends a lot on the type of car. I had a '71 Plymouth that was Ex-Highway Patrol 40+ yrs ago and at 140 it was not much different in how it rode than most cars at 70. My '72 Oldsmobile is also another car that doesn't 'beat you up' at high speeds either?? But most 'sports' or 'tuner' cars ride like crap.....too stiff of a suspension.

He was not forced to drink and he was not forced to drive.
They referred to the perpetrator as a man because he is 21. It's not illegal to sell or provide a person 21 or over with alcohol, so what's your point other than bleeding heart liberalism? He's a man, he made several decisions "on his own" that resulted in another person's death. He and he alone should be held accountable. No what abouts.
That thug had a pattern and should get the highest sentence possible!

Very sad indeed, the Parents are amazing people, I hope some good will come from this tragedy, like realizing drinking and driving is not acceptable behavior!
More American parents ahould be this apologetic like this couple
It's usually Asian people/countries that takes responsibilities for their actions or their children's actions. Here in America, the parents would blame the system, others and everyone around them before owning up their mistakes.
Imagine being a family that made it to America to live the dream and raise a son that aspired to be ghetto. Such a bummer story and just so grateful that I am 52. We couldn't get access to cars that went this fast for the most part. What a mess
Poor parents. Even good parents raise monsters. But to see they’re probably only son ruined his life because of drugs will kill them. Prayers for the victims.
