Such a fantastic performance by a truly extraordinary singer. Lisa has made a point on being original and authentic even when doing a cover she puts herself in to what she is singing. So many so called "artist" now days need lights, smoke machine, weird costumes, dancers on stage and so on to perform.. Just give Lisa a guitar and a Mic and you can be amazed.
We heard Lisa and Band at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. They rocked the place. So fine. Come back to Arizona, Lisa. We love your music and creativity. You were amazing in person, so real, authentic, especially in a small venue as the headliner.
Lisa and Damien always knew how to completely transform covers into their own. I was pleasantly surprised when she played this in NYC back in October. So goosebump-inducing.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I was actually at this exact show, and as soon as it was over I was hoping that it was out there on TH-cam. Thanks again!
Lisa must be able to play ten or more musical instruments well, well hell!, i can play the bell as well as that guy at the end, i say as my head swells:)
@erattix I am happy you got it. Enjoy it, because it is my favorite album and she is my favorite singer. I still have not gotten to see her live though :(
she was incredible tonight in san francisco. this video is awesome. i hate depeche mode, so i was glad she did such a great job with this song. very cool atmosphere. great warmup to david gray. i would definitely pay to see her again.
Hmmmmm, an interesting interpretation. I found it a bit tame at the beginning, but when the rest of the band joined in about halfway through, I really started to enjoy it. I'd never heard of Lisa Hannigan before, but I will definitely be checking out some of her other performances on TH-cam.
She has it tuned DAD (one of the dulcimer's regular tunings), which she uses as a drone throughout the song. I hope she uses this instrument more in the future. Some really great musicians have used it in the past, such as Joni Mitchell and Richard Fariña.
@Volgin93 this is obviously a question of taste ;-)) Johnny Cash loved the original so much that he decided to cover it. And he even said that he wished he would have written this song.
she rocked NY too.... i also got to see her back when she played with DR... and she kind of stole the show with her voice, though damien is to me also a great artist.
Well that is your opinion, and I'm not slaying you for having it. Just tell me - have you heard some of her original stuff like Little Bird or Knots? You might not like it, we love it. I understand you, really, but the amazing thing about this is that it's so simple, yet powerful. And one could listen to her voice all day. By the way - it's two notes ;-)
you know when the guy grabs the bells...shit ' bout to go down - brilliant!
lisa hannigan must never stop singing this song.. she does it so well its beautiful.. wish it was on download.
couldn't agree more with you John! :)
3:36 oh my god! The whole song got me hypnotized..what a beautiful cover.
Saw this live and it was amazing! Its why I still come back to watch it again.

That ending is wesome! I keep coming back!
She takes a song and makes it uniquely hers. Im a great fan of hers and have seen her live. An amazing musician and person! Well done Lisa!"
Her covers are well thought out and executed so damn well!

This is really beautiful.
Anyways, I disagree with some of you. Any song she sings sounds simply amazing whether it be one of her own or a cover.
This is just perfect! :o) I love Depeche Mode's original song with all my heart but I've enjoyed this version very, very much!
Simply incredible
Beautiful, best cover of PJ ever.
When Lisa Hannigan drops a beat, she fucking DROPS a BEAT!

I already loved her. But I didn't expect that at 3:35 . So glad she has that in her too.
Shes got such a haunting beautiful voice

Out of this world
@3:37 I was like WOAH
I love how that guy comes up at the very and just shakes the bells!
I dig it. Thank you, Jesus.
Impresionante. Tiene una voz hermosa
Nice to hear a song covered this way, slavish remakes get old.
I Love Lisa, she seems like the kind of girl who would bake cookies and write a song 4 u.

Thanks for the vid! do you know if there's an official mp3 version with better sound quality?!

@Volgin93 this is obviously a question of taste ;-)) Johnny Cash loved the original so much that he decided to cover it. And he even said that he wished he would have written this song.
I'm In Love...
I want her to tour please come to new Jersey
Wow, so unconventional and yet so cool!
she rocked NY too.... i also got to see her back when she played with DR... and she kind of stole the show with her voice, though damien is to me also a great artist.
My goodness she fucking rocks like anyone!!!!

+1 for the glowing mushroom... ;)
This may be the hardest anyone has ever rocked out on a dulcimer.
Amazing, and so nice to see her not do something standard :)
My today's soundtrack...
Oh my Lord.
just to add to the mix--nina hagen covers this on her new album, entitled the same.
Joking bout Lisa is not possible!
Very cool! What's the instrument?
