    Don't feel too bad. I'm working on raising trees for my impending orchard and I just recently managed to accidentally kill off 45 year-old pecan saplings 🤦‍♂

    We're still fighting the weather to get our corn in.. just glad we don't mess with all the chemicals on top of all that

    I used to hobby farm with my dad but had to give it up due to his health. We had a lot of semi crop failures and replants over the years. Even with the struggles still miss it so try not to get too discouraged the 1st year. You may have planted your beans too deep They always seem to struggle getting up in wet conditions anything over 1” depth.

    I should probably watch the rest of the video before commenting in case you do mention it, but rather than running foam, which sucks, believe me we have covered thousands of acres on foam. You can get a line bar GPS with no auto steer that will map and keep you in a straight line for fairly cheap these days. Something like a used Ez guide 250, which is what we used to run back in the day. I'm sure if you can find something cheap like that it would be well worth the probably $150 or so bucks for the thing. "Globe" and all.

      Thanks for the comments. I think GPS is absolutely the route I’ll go moving forward. It was fun to try to figure out the foam, but as soon as I did get it fixed it quit working again. Seems a bit antiquated, it cool to learn how they did it before modern tech. Thanks for wathing!

    Really cool video mate. :) I wish you good luck spraying your 1st crop.
    But keep in mind that I will get very hot under your tractor's bonnet and routed the electrical cables for your sprayer right beside your turbo.

    Not sure if you ended up doing so in the next episode, but be sure to put an insecticide in the tank as well for various bugs.

    yeah weeds will always grow, its very common to do a "pre burn" which is typically done using glyphosate or glyphosate mixed with another spray to kill off everything in the field before planting. You want to give your crop the best head start on weeds that you can so you don't have to spray your growing crop as much. I would pickup a crop protection book, they outline hundreds of different chemicals you can use, many chemicals are similar, but different companies just name them differently.
    Also learn your groups, different spray groups utilize different modes of action, so they kill plants in different ways. Some crops are resistant to certain chemicals like "round-up ready canola" but you are limited by what you can spray on certain crops. To simplify it, weeds that are similar to your crop, are very hard to spray out. So you have to check your fields to know which weeds you have, then you need a spray guide to know your options in terms of which chemicals to use.
    Sorry to see this, I assume you killed your crop. We had a similar issue this year with carry-over, the spray we used on our peas last year is dangerous in the soil for up to 2 years after, and we just forgot we sprayed that chemical and planted something that is at risk of being affected by that chemical, even a year later. You can still replant, or even just plant something like Wheat, its a versatile short season crop.

      Thank you! After getting a few opinions on them, it seems maybe I didn't end up killing the beans afterall. Just burned the first set of leaves on a few rows but the plant seems to be OK as new leaves come out. A new video on that will be coming out soon! Thanks for watching!

      @@Suits2Boots that is definitely optimal! You may have a slightly delayed crop now, but that's alright. Hope you didn't mind my novel that I wrote, spraying is just so complicated to jump into, there is a lot to learn.

      @@Suits2Bootsbeans can take a fair amount of abuse, and beans can benefit from being stressed, some farmers even burn their soybeans on purpose to stress them.

    You really sgould invest in a cultivator or at least a disc. Although alot of people are hard believers in no till. Tillage really helps keep weeds down.

    Probably won’t hurt to sell that pickup of yours. It’s a nice truck but it will get dinged up on the farm. My grandpa bought a 2019 Chevy 2500 new and it is in rough condition now. I would sell the sweet truck loose the payments you might have on it and get a old 1990s pickup. Parts are easy to find, you can work on it yourself, you can get the bigger cab for the kids plus it is not the end of the world if the paint gets scratched

    • @Suits2Boots
      @Suits2Boots  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We don't do payments on stuff, but you're right, it will probably get dinged up. That's OK. We use it for off road camping so it's already getting beat up on the trail. But, I have been looking to get a nice older farm truck like you suggested. I'll shoot a video on it as soon as I do!
