I remember watching Bottom in the 90s when I was a young teenager. My grandparents were round visiting and my Mum was talking to my Gran as they were about to leave. So my Grandad stood there and watched Bottom for a few minutes with me. This was totally unlike anything that he would have watched at home with my Gran. I'll always remember the look on his face and the sound of him laughing as Rik and Ade went at each other. This brought me so much joy and I still think it's probably the funniest comedy show ever created. RIP Rik.

Bottom is one of my most favourite comedies ever. In this chess game scene, they were missing a lot of pieces so obviously, the dynamo duo improvised and used other things for the missing pieces. This fight is one of my favourite fights that they have in the show.

Sorry if someone has already explained this. The reason for all those odd chess pieces is because they only have five left. And the reason why is Eddie has been stealing and selling the others because apparently each piece is carved from ivory and worth £65-£85.

yeah whooo bottom, you did a bottom reaction. Ive been asking for one of them for ages, well done.
the thing about the game of chess and why Richie had various random pieces to play with at the start of the game is because unbeknown to him Eddie had found his antique chess set that he'd hidden inside the wall and sold them to buy drink.
There are a few clips you could try that dont have the Eddie & Richie violence in but are still proper funny. The clip when Eddie pretends to be Death (not deaf) is a good one. The Bottom Live stage shows are on youtube, so they should be acceptable content for you to react to. Anyway it was good to see a Bottom reaction on your channel, thank you

There needs to be a bit of context here, especially when it comes to the chess pieces. Eddy has been selling them off, surreptitiously, one by one for quite a while, with there only being a couple of pieces left. So, when the idea of having a game of chess came up, they had to substitute most of the pieces with other small items. The pawns, for examples, are frozen prawns. The Queen is a small potted cactus with a paper crown on it; one of the bishops is a Spiderman, the other a sausage. One of the knights is a plastic skeleton, and so on.. It just adds to the total ridiculousness of the situation.

Have to catch the whole episodes, like the Gasman, Christmas and Fairground ones.
Eddie pawned half the chess set so that is why Ritchie was playing with Spiderman, prawns and a Ketchup.

Rik Mayall, bless his wee bum, was in the 1991 film Drop Dead Fred. I remember when he and Ade first started out in 20th Century Coyote and The Dangerous Brothers. Now, they really did get up to some mad s^it.

You will see them both pop up in the occasional Blackadder too. Rik Mayall more so.

I think you'll struggle to find YT friendly clips, but i'm glad you appreciate it. It's a unique show, yes 90s.

You simply must watch the full 3 series of episodes of this classic program.
You might actually have a heart attack from laughing though. Fair warning...

This show is the best, you must find a way round it! That scene is even better when you get the full context of it from the build up. It's got lots of In-Betweeners nods but add more violence, more slapstick and replace 4 loser teenagers with 2 loser adults and you've got the greatest sitcom ever made in my opinion! Glad you loved it!
