    I think the best way to test speakerphones is when in actual table top position rather than within a foot of your face as you're doing in this case. Reflection of sound off room walls and the table top itself offer additional characteristics (both desirable and not). depending on the mic array and other mic characteristics. Doing so as demonstrated treats all these items as handheld microphones, not the way they will be used. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the comparison nevertheless.

    Keep doing what you're doing! Mic quality, speaker quality, and full-duplex are all needed in order to emulate a natural, in-person conversation. Nobody else seems to be testing these qualities head-to-head. Bravo!
    There are two more entries in the $180 - $200 range that I'd love to see you test out:
    Beyerdynamic Phonum

    The difference between the Sennheiser and the Yamaha was stunning. The Yam just blew it out of the water. The Konftel quality was much lower also. I have an Avaya B109 which is a rebadged Konftel.

    This comparison test is great when it is plugged into the computer, but I am wanting to know sound comparison, when it is connected to a mobile phone via blue tooth. This would be a great mobility test and concern as blue tooth connections can often produce weaker sounds.

    The effort is appreciated, thank you! The comparisons were helpful to hear the differences between microphones. One minor change would greatly improve your reviews: place the microphones on a desk 3' to 6' away so we can evaluate their sound pickup in a conference room environment. As an example, the Sennheiser sounded weak and thin on the desk and improved considerably when picked up and held close at mouth level.

    Your tests are really great and so very different from all the testers out there testing audio/voice equipment. The sound quality of the microphone is really essential to those devices and your channel is the only one I found which is consistantly testing this characteristic other than that all your testing is focusing on the essentiels and usabillity which is also kind of a USP on youtube. And in addition you are a really likeable guy, so I really hope your channel gets more attention as it really deserves it.
    On another note I would really like to see a mic test between the Bose 700, Sony WH1000XM3, Jabra Elite 85h , MS Surface Headphones and the new Jabra Evolve2 85 and maybe some other "Over-Ear" wireless Headphones/Headsets with the ability to take phone calls. As I am also in home office atm I bought the Bose 700 (criteria were ANC and Over-Ear) after some extensiv research to make my calls and they are ok, but with some room for improvment and there are not that many tests to be found of consumer grade products in this branch with regard of usability in an office environment. So keep it up and stay healthy. Greetings form Germany.

    Danny, thanks for doing an awesome job comparing and testing communication devices! We're afraid though that there is an error in the section with the Konftel Ego. At around 1:30 you can see the device looses the USB connection and when reconnecting it goes into music mode (yellow LED) instead of speach mode with microphone active (green LED). You can hear that the audio pick-up comes from another source. We would really appreciate if you could update the video on this part. Thanks 🙏😀

    Great reviews as always. Might I ask you to add a Full Duplex "double-talk" test? This is where you have the far-end talking at the same time. The best way to test this is to play a TH-cam video with dialog (or just an MP4 or audio recording) while talking into a recording test. In my tests, the Polycom Speakerphone and Jabra 510 all failed the full duplex test miserably. Full duplex is very important because natural conversations involve people briefly talking over each other when they trade off.

    • @davidlakes5087
      @davidlakes5087 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      George, this is a great question. I've had the exact same experience with the Jabra 510. It is very frustrating when you make a quick comment and realize that the person on the other end never heard any of it. Now I have a tendency to repeat myself to compensate for this, which is probably worse!

    • @GeorgeOu
      @GeorgeOu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidlakes5087 You're actually better off using Zoom's software audio processing for Echo Cancellation with a good USB mic that's much cheaper. It's not as good as a hardware DSP or the Logitech Rally system or a Polycom system, or a Cisco Spark system, but it's close. I have done extensive testing on full-duplex.
      These USB speakerphones are really bad. There are a few on the market that do in fact have good full-duplex.

    • @GeorgeOu
      @GeorgeOu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@as.6877 Most of the USB products do not produce good full duplex results. Most are still worse than the software AEC built into Zoom, at least on the PC side. The Audio Technica ATDM-0604 has excellent echo cancellation but it's $1,000. The best deal you can find for a PC is to get a used BiAmp on eBay for less than $100, and it even comes with eight phantom power mic inputs!

    In terms of mic quality Yamaha > Poly Calisto > CP900 > CP700> Jabra 410 (I own this)=Jabra 510 (I own this) = Jabra 710 (I've used this at work) > Sennheiser. In terms of speaker quality it comes down to volume ability because mid-tones (human voice) are easy to produce by cheap speakers. If you work in a small 4mx 4m meeting room all of them will be clear. Jabra lets you plug in an external speaker system.

    Cool idea and surely needed. However I think that it's missing one thing - a real test. Like all speakerphones standing on a desk in a standard position (not picking them up in the air and rotating). Then testing voice pickup in 2-3 different distances (arm length, 1-1,5 meters and maybe 2-2,5 meters). Maybe a test of noise redution like papers shuffling or keyboard typing?
    And of course the most important - update all speakerphones to the latest firmware.

    In testing these devices, it would have been better to test this using the devices at a similar angle and distance from the microphone. Based on your picking the device up and moving it around, the Yamaha and Poly sound streets ahead of the others. However , my Macbook Pro 16 built in microphone sounds just like the Yamaha and the Poly - and much superior to all the other devices so I guess I will ask the question - who has a MBP 16 and bought one of these things ? • @CallOneInc
      @CallOneInc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christine C! Great question. This is one of the reasons we've created this channel. Education. For optimal audio experience, ALL parties should invest in a high-quality or business-grade headset certified for Zoom or UC platforms. The poor audio issue happens when one of the parties has a subpar device. The Jabra Engage 50 II has a technology called BalancedVoice™ that automatically processes the sound to be clear and crisp. If you're in a noisy environment, you may want to consider using a headset with ANC speakers like the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex, Poly Voyager Focus 2, or EPOS Impact 660. If one of the parties in a call has poor audio, I strongly recommend you make them aware so they can try and correct. Hardware and software can correct most audio issues however, sometimes it's a weak signal or poor internet connection impacting the audio quality. I hope this helps and thanks so much for watching and supporting our channel! Check out some of our other videos!

    Very good review. Straight to the point and real sound examples. I’ve had the Jabra 410 in my drawer for a couple of years, and it now came back to heavy use now during the Covid-19 period. Old, but still does his job 100% and perfect for a home office where you don’t want to sit arount with a headset all day long. My family is hoping to get a microphone/speaker that can be placed in the middle of the living room for use during video calls. Which mic do you recommend for picking up audio from the greatest distance and multiple vantage points (we all have our own seats that we like)? We recently tried the Anker Powerconf but the people we called said that we sounded quiet. Any recommendations?

    • @benlevitsky9364
      @benlevitsky9364 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CallOneInc Thanks for the quick reply! There are four of us. It's a fairly large living room with an armchair at the back of the room facing the TV head on flanked by two large couches on the sides that face each other about 8 ft apart and a small wood table in the middle where the speakerphone would be (between 5-7 ft from the mouths of all participants seated). The side couches don't face the TV head on, so the participants will be looking at/heads facing the TV, but speaking sort of next to the speakerphone as opposed to directly towards it, unlike the participant in the armchair who would be speaking more directly. So the speakerphone would have to be very good at picking up adjacent audio and amplifying to receiving callers from a distance of 5-7ft so that we don't sound too quiet. Wifi is strong, so that shouldn't be too much of a factor. Bluetooth is a must. Video platforms would mostly be Zoom and Facetime. Let me know what you think!

      @saiga6360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CallOneInc Thanks for the reply. I guess in the two rooms I have in mind the sizes are between 700-800 sq ft. With a capacity of 18-20 people, anyone in the room must be heard if called upon, with the speakerphone somewhere in front and the farthest speaker would be about 24-30 feet from the device. This is also a case of a hybrid classroom where a larger classroom is joined by a smaller one using video conferencing. I'm thinking about the Jabra 710 with its pairing capabilities if one device isn't sufficient.

      @@CallOneInc I think we are pretty much set for video using Zoom, the challenge really is audio because of a slightly noisy environment. I'm actually really looking for a good microphone that can pick up from over 20 ft, 4-5 rows back, without picking up too much ambient noise. Note that also, I would probably need the pick up range from one direction as the mic will be placed in front of the class. Thanks again for all the advice.

    Hey Danny, thanks for making this comparison video. I think it would have been helpful to hear the mic audio with the speakerphones sitting on the desk as they would be during an actual call but one gets the general idea. Getting a full view of them is good tho. I was surprisingly impressed by the mic quality on the Yamaha. How is the speaker on that one?
    I'm currently looking to replace my eMeet e2. This thing malfunctions left and right on me and today was the last straw. I have absolutely zero confidence in this product as it has screwed me during meetings with clients a couple times now. ONCE was too many. Very unreliable. Turns on/off randomly, disconnects during the middle of a call, weird sound artifacts, will toggle between USB and Bluetooth modes by itself intermittently. It has even freaked out the Bluetooth setting on my phone. No joke, there have been times when I literally can't keep this thing turned off. It will keep turning back on, and on and on. Any number of these issues will happen at the same time, too. To me it sounds like something is interfering with the internal clock because at times the on/off chime will change pitch/speed. I've tried a lot of different 'fixes' but my guess is that it's some sort of Bluetooth interference/inter-modulation from a nearby signal that is messing with the processor. Kinda scary actually. I had discovered that my Logitech wireless trackball mouse was interfering with it so I went back to a wired mouse and that seemed to cure the issue for about a month, until today. Their website doesn't instill much confidence that there's any hope of getting this resolved so I'm just going to throw it out the window. Have you ever used one of these? Have you heard of this with any other products? Thanks again.
