Fo many players, Ma Long must be an even tougher opponent to deal with than Fan Zhendong because he is even more shrewd and wiser player than Fan, let alone much more experienced. The top Chinese head-to-head competition against each other may not accurately reflect how good they really are because they know one another so well. So the competition between the Chinese and non-Chinese could be a more accurate measure of their real mettle.
I noticed this with Ma Long rarely putting his hand up with Alexis serving fast and basically countering all of Alexis unique shots. Then you remember the last guy to beat Ma Long, LYJ would have played Alexis. 🤔 Could have an interesting set of games coming up.
