When are NSW fans and pundits going to stop blaming the referee for “ruining the game”? How about this. Sua’ali’i ruined the game. Not the referee. It’s a send off, end of story, doesn’t matter what level of the game, it’s a send off. It’s Sua’ali’i’s responsibility to not put himself, his team and his state in that situation.

it was a clear tactic from the start by NSW to do damage to walsh. the fact he left the ground and launched himself at walsh meant his intent was to hit high with shoulder, whether he was aiming intentionally for the head or not he still would have hit him in the neck or lower jaw if walsh had not slipped. the way walsh's neck snapped back made me feel sick.

To bad ... you can't have a run of the mill player take out the main strike weapon and just allow a replacement. The game needs to be as safe as it can be for such a contact sport, but that was clearly dangerous which could have made an athlete never walk again. How do these guys know Sua's intent? Were they in the sheds before the game? Did Madge have a quiet word with Sua and tell him to not only put pressure on Walsh and mess him up? I find it amusing when NSW pundits claim "We've gotta protect the kicker" every day of the week, but when their golden boy makes a mistake (sure it wasn't intentional - but if your accidents can give a bloke CTE a few years down the track YOU DESERVE TO BE SENT!) they can find hundreds of mitigating circumstances. Here's an idea; The Send Off is meant to be the ultimate deterent, and they are arguing it ruins the game (WRONG - It only ruined this game because it happened so early) In order to keep the game alive have the player sent off, never to return, but after 20 minutes activate the 18th man. Still worse than 10 minutes in the Bin, but gives the team a possible chance to recover. QLD just got ahead and went into slow mo, knowing they were going to wear out their opponents sooner or later. It was dull.

    • @SilentHotdog28
      @SilentHotdog28 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

20 minutes may not be enough of a deterrent to be honest, in fact it may be beneficial if they get to activate 18th man. They may have a player that is blundering galore and decide "Righto, you go out there and take off Cleary/Munster/To'o/Walsh's head, you'll cop a send off, but we'll hold and get a fresh 18th man in the back end of the game and then win."

Definitely a send off. The old players know it as well but they are now in the media business so they see it from and entertainment view point.
Walsh and sualii both know it was a send off. Munster said he was upset to see the game ruined, but it was a send off.
They players now are just as hard as the oldies but they understand the rules that they play within. It sucks for game.
    But its right decision.
Sad to see the oldies trying to create a scenario where that tackle is okay now.
Imagine Latrel did it and the whole scenario changes to how much of a grub he is.

Yes definitely a send off! One of the reasons Maroons were able to take advantage of the 13-12 situation so well is because they had Cobbo as a sub... And Hammer slotted back to FB so well! In other situations a team can get greatly disadvantaged if one of their star attacking players is out for the game! For example, hypothetically if Turbo is taken out by a similar tackle in a NSW team in origin or for Manly in a GF then that would greatly affect both NSW and Manly in such a situation especially if they don't have any backs in the bench! If Reece slips (which he did, but it didn't cause him to drop much) then the tackler has to make sure to account for that......if he is already charging at him full speed (which there is nothing against that act alone) it is his job to make sure to hit the ball carrier legally.....Sualii did not do that, not only did he shoulder charge Reece......He got him in the head. God there are some clowns here. The send off is for deliberate acts of foul play. Suaalii clearly aimed low and committed to the tackle, walsh slipped and changed the target, there was no chance of either pulling out, it obviously wasnt a deliberate act of foul play, so why was it a send off. If thats called a sin bin as it shouldve been, noone complains. The only people who seem to disagree are qlders but we all know if the roles were reversed and one of theirs went off like that theyd all be saying the same things I am.
If you want an example of what a real send off worthy offence is, look up Greenhill on Harragon. Harragon ran at the line upright, Greenhill rushed in with a swinging arm, jumped and clotheslined the head. Deliberate act of foul play. Noone could complain about that one. You look at both tackles, one person clearly tried to do the right thing, the other person clearly tried to injure another player
It sucks walsh got ruled out but that was an accident. Suaaliis ruling out however was not an accident. So as much as people will say, well he took out our best player or whatever, players go down through accidents, its a contact sport, the bunker has a million angles and shouldnt be getting that wrong, particularly because its origin.
Why the NRL still hasnt figured out how to take falling players into account is beyond me, so many of these rubbish calls would stop instantly.
Any fan who went to that game should get their money back.

@chillyfish5676 your first question is malformed, I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Freddy lussick attacked through the legs. Ilias didn't trip or change anything, the fault was all lussick.
Suaalii is the "victim" because he was sent off in shitty circumstances. He got the technique right, he didnt leave the ground, walsh slipped into it.
If walsh doesn't fall, it's a perfect tackle, therefore the trip is a contributing factor to what went wrong and why walsh got knocked out.
If everything else stayed exactly the same, but instead of hitting the head when walsh slipped, suaalii landed on Walsh's legs and broke one, is it a send off, no, because the trip was a contributing factor, it was an accident.
By the rules any contact to the head is a pen and forceful is a bin, I think everyone would be fine with the bin because clearly there was forceful contact to the head. But it's also clear to anyone with half a brain that wasn't intentional and walsh falling was the reason the tackle went wrong.

@bigtomivan im suggesting your statement that send offs are for deliberate acts of foul play is not true. I was referencing spear tackles and the tackle on Illias as clear examples that this is not the case. These are not deliberate acts and still result in send offs because their technique is reckless and either risks or results in harm to the other player. If everything went perfect he would have hit Walsh high on the chest. He had 5 foot below that which he could have aimed for. It's football played at a fast pace. It's the tacklers responsibility to account for changes in position.
And he did leave his feet. Milli seconds after contact, he's flying through the air like Superman. He has form for recklessness in how he enters contact as well.

@@chillyfish5676 if there is a spear, the defender lifted the attacker, if theres contact with legs, it because the defender attacked the legs, these are deliberate actions and avoidable. A tripping player is not avoidable and cannot be called deliberate by any reasonable person.
Suaalii did everything right. Everything. He did his role as a defender trying to cut off the play, he got low enough, his technique was correct.
"If everything went perfect he would have hit Walsh high on the chest." - proving my point, he got the tackle right.
A tackle around the legs is every bit as legal as a tackle high on the chest, attacking low leaves walsh open to offload for the overlap on the outside. Suaalii did everything right.
"It's the tacklers responsibility to account for changes in position." - how do you know he didnt, the way walsh is moving, hes only ever going to the outside, he was never going to cut back in, suaalii read the play and tried to cut it off, you cant predict a slip at the last moment, you cant adjust in that time.
Leaving feet AFTER contact is irrelevant, he mad contact on the feet, he was in control, he left his feet cause he went through walsh, if walsh didnt slip, he still wouldve sent walsh flying and lifted off after the hit. You are grasping at straws.
Him having form is also irrelevant. We are not talking about other incidents, we are talking about this one, in this one he got everything right.
As I said before if everything else happened the exact same way, but instead of hitting the head, walsh slipping lead to suaalii landing on walsh's leg awkwardly causing a break, are you going to blame him for that? Is it defenders responsibility? Of course not. It was just an accident.
Suaalii went in hard, walsh slipped, they are both equally at fault for what happened and neither are to blame for what happened.

That send off was rubbish!! Reece fell, Joseph bent over, chest high, at full flight like how they're trained and it is what it is!! Fair hit!!!
