It’s infuriating that Nino is such a damn hypocrite. He’s his father exactly, obsessing over women he imagines attachment to, sending mixed messages to vulnerable women, going behind a woman he’s seeing back. Just wow.
I think they have to show that men who are ‘woke’ (or think they are) can be just as damaging or threatening as outright chauvinists, you just don’t see it because they’ve internalized a bunch of humanistic rhetoric without it really deeply reshaping their thinking in any way. Often people who grow up in the academy/academia can be worse, because they’re used to just appropriating everything unilaterally with their intellect.
I think we're forgetting that Nino is young and also a product of his environment. He's human therefore flawed just like Nadia, Lila and Lenu ... and not sure of what he really wants in the final analysis. Do I like him as a character? No, but I understand him to some extent --- and as a human being he's far more acceptable than Stefano, Marcello, et.al.. We see him through the course of circa a decade go out with a pretty girl (Nadia), while craving the smart girl (Lenu) and ending up with a smart pretty girl (Lila) --- not to suggest Lenu isn't pretty, but she's a much more pedestrian pretty compared to Lila's exotic and tantalizing look. Of course the relationship between Nino and Lila burns bright, but fades out due to their emotional immaturity. ... and speaking of "going behind a woman he's seeing back", then what exactly is Lila doing? Betraying her husband (yeah he's a shit) and her one and only true friend in the world.
It takes other countries outside of Hollywood to make masterpieces like this. It's just that Hollywood is so good at promoting their own. If you look away from Hollywood, you'll find this... and more like this.
Hollywood creates what sells.Unfortunately,My Brillant Friend didn’t have mass appeal in the US.The equally superb Best Of Youth even less. It’s more a reflection on the audience than Hollywood.😢
No. She is complex and unique. And in some ways also the biggest victim in the story (if you read the books you will more identify with her in some ways)
@@wojoud1344 same here. Elena Ferrante does a great job at putting you inside Lenu’s head. It helps you understand why she’d stick around with such a toxic friend for so long
You know that the concept of hairless women being the standard is quite recent and has been created by razor merchants just for the purpose of making money on women insecurities.

Is he trash? Yes. Is he cute? Also yes
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Even though nino doesn’t like his dad he is just like him
Womanizer
And that, my friends, is exactly why this show is a total masterpiece.
i could feel lenu's goddam pain what a show
Great performance of Margherita as Lenu fantastic chemistry between her and Serpico/Nino❤
La historia de las novelas es tremenda. Pero lo bien que han sabido recrear las emociones en la serie también tiene mucho mérito
Why can't they make masterpieces like this anymore
They just did ...
@Emmanuel Macron Ah oui oui pretty sure she refers to the song :D

Was the second season released already??
Only episodes one and two so far. This seems like a leak, or maybe season 2 is released early in Italy
Yes, it was already released in Italy. It's on its 3rd episode on the US
It’s fully released. Lila is a bitch !
Yes, airing now on HBO (Monday nights at 9pm CST). Episode 4 aired tonight. It's jaw dropping even more intense than Season 1. SO.GOOD.PERIOD.
Wendy Saponaro I feel like Lila was lying about kissing lenu, just a hunch
she broke the sister code i hate her
Should i hate lila?
I have conflicting feelings for Lila, sometimes I find myself liking her and the other times I resent or hate her
Well, that's OK with me. But in moderation. Don't overdo it.

I didn't even notice.
It was totally normal in Italy even up to the 80s
