Vintage Otis & Modern Schindler Escalators - Replacement Project - Macy's San Francisco - June 2023

This is the state of the escalator replacement project in June of 2023. I revisited the store in September of 2023 (I captured no additional footage) and another vintage Otis escalator had been removed since this video I filmed in June of 2023. It is a shame to see all these vintage Otis escalators get replaced. If maintained, they last a very long time. There are many, many examples in fantastic running order around today. This was one of my favorite sets of escalators as a child.

I wonder if they're cannibalizing the ones being removed for parts and replacing as they run out... Can't imagine that parts for these old escalators are super common any more. Probably are taking them out of service as soon as one develops a problem. At least a few are still original at the time of filming at least
