Cyclone Amphan: Indian Prime Minister Modi visits hard-hit Kolkata, offers aid

- Peering down from an aircraft, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw on Friday the devastation and flooding caused by the most powerful cyclone to hit India in more than a decade, before making landfall in the city of Kolkata.
At least 80 people died when cyclone Amphan swept in from the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, with an evacuation of some three million people before the cyclone struck.
Modi announced emergency aid of 10 billion rupees ($131.66 million) to help the state at a time when it and the rest of the country are dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

As a resident of Bengal, I am extremely grateful to prime minister Narendra Modi for his timely support. This cyclone has wreaked havoc on our city, uprooting both humans and non-human animals. It has left damage, death, displacement, and detritus in its wake. I have faith that we will make it through anything, because we have Narendra Modi at the helm of this nation. 🙏🌀
As a leader of this nation, he has done a fabulous job of marketing India as a competent and a strong nation rooted in its ancient heritage of 'yoga', 'dharma', 'sasthras', 'vedantas' & a myriad of others from our ancient past, with humble citizens who innovate with what they have. But the only disappointment is with regards to the economic policies followed by the states & center mirror the continuation of the British & Congress era colonial & socialistic/communistic policies of squeezing the citizens of the nation & parking the money in assets outside the nation. The wealth drain still continues & we do not see this illegal money circulating back to the nation so that we can move from a lower-middle-income nation to an upper-middle-income nation with high HDI & social mobility index.

West Bengal is badly hit by the Cyclone. Communication, electricity n water supply is not restored in many parts of cities even after 4days. Through the Govt is trying hard.Village after village is washed out. No sign of land. It will take more than 3 months for villages to restore electricity
