It would be very cool looking with slightly better graphics and some partial updates. Ideally I'd find a slightly less tall screen so it can be integrated into a case better.
People are also cramming them into phones now for some reason... They are way neater as small status displays. I just wish they made them in more sizes.
Building a full ereader will be a bit expensive with the prices of the epaper panels I guess. Can't really compete with some Kobo that already runs Linux
IP addresses would be really hard here since the switch doesn't have any IP information. mac adresses would work. To get a ip somewhat working you'd need an ethernet connected MCU that does ARP and heuristics on what's what.
There's an internal MCU which has an internal ethernet interface, that would be ideal for this if there were any docs. Otherwise a wiznet or ENC28J60 connected to the 6th internal port would probably work, no need to waste one of the ports with PHY for that.
I don't know how simple it is but the effect is amazing. Something telling you the status VISUALLY. Worth every penny.

This is truly beautiful. I’ve always felt that e-Ink has so many more possibilities in the world than just ebook readers.

Amazing! I dream of DIY ereader running GNU/Linux

We need this in a switch..
I"m in awe of your talent. This is impressive
my two cents here, it would be super cool if you can show IP and Mac on the ports

@@MartijnBraam Could be done with an ENC28J60 on the 5th port. And then have it do WoL for each port as well.

@@MartijnBraam oh I missed the fact it had another internal port.
vlan info, data rate ( of some sort) vs simple activity
Cool awesome project
Nederlanders fascineren mij wat ze allemaal in hun kamer doen 😅 (ben er zelf ook 1 en kan je werk zeker waarderen)
vvvv cool!
