Dark Funeral, Dissection, Marduk and Shining are also Swedish so the odds that a randomly picked band from that video is Swedish are pretty high. Watain have several songs that I think you would like if you listened to the studio versions.
The chance that a black metal or death metal band being from Sweden or influenced by a Swedish band is pretty high, as a big part of that genre was pioneered by a bunch of Swedish bands like Bathory, At the Gates, Candlemass and Entombed. There's the "Stockholm sound" and the "Gothenburg sound" etc. (Not claiming to be an expert on this lore, I just saw some documentaries 🤘)
4:50 that's because the list is made by someone who got no idea who "The scariest band in metal" are. The list is made for someone who either got no idea what metal is or is new to metal, they did little to no research.
The piano background whilst reading their lyrics was perfect, lol. As a metalhead of around 30 years, I readily admit to rolling my eyes at bands with lyrics like these. I'm aware the majority are nice folks and the lyrics are often outlets or even tongue in cheek, but they just don't resonate with me at all. Always enjoy your reactions. Happy spooky day and whatnot to ye.
I was actually at that show about two rows from the front. There was a palpable atmosphere for sure. The air felt.. heavier in that tent. Personally, i love Watain. Lyrics are silly, but they don't bother me. Most black metal dudes are teddy bears, and its all theater.
Going head first into the Black Metal pool of blood? Start with Slayer, then move on to bands like Behemoth and Celtic Frost. Hope you had a great Halloween, Lauren. and yes Watian are Swedish fish.
Have you checked out Avatar? The band ..not the cartoon or movie. Cory Taylor whistles on one of their songs. One of my favorite bands. Apparently Corys wife is a huge fan and there's a whole story of how he ended up whistling.
This was worth watching if only for the way you trolled all of the air out of the nauseating, provocative lyrics by playing that tranquil piano piece over it. Well played, Lauren, well played! And, to be honest, there’s just not much there there for me to enjoy or value, but thank you for going there so I don’t have to go there, again! So, there. 🤟🏼
I agree with someone else's comment here. If you take away the lyrics, Black Metal really isn't "scary". My biggest issue though is a lot of it sounds very samey to me, although I guess you could make that argument about any subgenre. Some Black Metal that I do actually like and would recommend is Diabolical Masquerade, which was a project from Anders Nystrom of Katatonia. Happy Halloween!
I don't think music can be scary as such. Just extreme or challenging your sense of what music can be. There is certainly a dark energy to some music, though. Black Metal should be the darkest of them all.
Oh come on. If you going to analyse lyrics you must go beyond the surfice. Espeasially when the metaphors are so obious. If it were literal they woulld be in jail and Erik would not be one of the best most balanced, smart humans you can come across. The lyrics are metaphorical with a genuine message and meaning behind it. The dark is symbolic for the dark uknown most fear to enter . To grow one must venture into the dark. A darkness that contains all wisdom , and this wisdom is already lurking within us all, hidden in our dark inner caves. The naive child in us must and will be cruched for the true you "soul! to emerge and be complete. The path of no return is the path of enlightenment. And that path is our last on this plane of existing. To the death AND FAR BEYOND
Don't think that Gangster Rap lyrics are less violent and most people don't have a problem with that. BM is not supposed to be harmless or politically correct. Real BM is hate music. Considering Watain right know i can say that they are on the brink of becoming a mainstream band, but nevertheless they are still quite good.
The background piano music while you read the lyrics was just 👌🏼… not to mention hilarious. 😆

LOL your editing and humor has been next level recently. The music during the lyric recital = chef's kiss
Thanks! This one was fun. 😂
I recommend you The Somberlain (song) by Dissection.
It's swedish melodic black metal.
Hope you're good, Lauren.
Loved your reaction! Happy halloween from Sweden

Do not forget Dissection.
Stockholm and Gothenburg sound have nothing to do with Watain or Black Metal. It's a categorisation for Melodic Black Metal.
To those who walk the path of no return, Happy Halloween! 🎃

WFFW. To the death and far beyond. To understand the lyrics from Watain, it can be a good idea to research the band some more.

As a finn I love this video
Ah hell, well uh, yeah…ok. Yeah. I guess that’s all I got on this one. Cheers Lauren!

😎
The singer, Erik Danielsson, is a really close friend to Tobias Forge
You're funny 😂
Reccomend Mandragora scream - dark lantern for halloween
Remind me next Halloween. :)
That's my "issue" with Black Metal: it's not scary, if you don't understand the lyrics :D
They have catchier songs that are easier to get into.

yeah your satanic supremacy shines through your misspelling
