Your method works. Best I’ve seen. The others all say to let it sit long term, I can’t be doing that. Used your method today. Only thing is I couldn’t strain it through a coffee filter. Had to fine strain it then run it through multiple layers of cheesecloth.
Hi there, To determine the alcohol concentration of the final liquid, we need to calculate the amount of alcohol present in the rum and then consider how it dilutes when mixed with water and sugar. 1. Calculate the amount of alcohol in the rum: - Volume of rum = 225 ml - Alcohol by volume (ABV) of rum = 63% Amount of alcohol in the rum = Volume of rum * ABV = 225 ml * (63/100) ≈ 141.75 ml 2. Calculate the total volume of the final mixture: - Volume of water added = 300 ml - Volume of sugar syrup added = 300 g (since water and sugar have approximately the same density, we can consider their volumes to be the same) - Total volume of the final mixture = Volume of rum + Volume of water + Volume of sugar syrup = 225 ml + 300 ml + 300 ml = 825 ml 3. Calculate the alcohol concentration in the final mixture: - Total volume of the final mixture = 825 ml - Amount of alcohol in the final mixture = 141.75 ml (from step 1) - Alcohol concentration = (Amount of alcohol in the final mixture / Total volume of the final mixture) * 100% = (141.75 ml / 825 ml) * 100% ≈ 17.18% So, the final liquid will have an alcohol concentration of approximately 17.18%.
Great video ! Very informative! Thank you!

I am super glad to hear that you made it and liked it!
Great video. Love that over proof wray and nephew
This recipe is so simple but works very well. It is the only allspice liquor recipe we use in cocktails now.
This is great! Will definetly try it out!
Can’t wait to make this! Thanks
My favourite cocktail with pimento dram is the Lions Tail !
Did not expect that huge amount of allspice is needed :-o
What is the shelf life for this dram?
I would say in the fridge at least 6 months
How much is the ABV in the final result?
Hi there,
To determine the alcohol concentration of the final liquid, we need to calculate the amount of alcohol present in the rum and then consider how it dilutes when mixed with water and sugar.
1. Calculate the amount of alcohol in the rum:
- Volume of rum = 225 ml
- Alcohol by volume (ABV) of rum = 63%
Amount of alcohol in the rum = Volume of rum * ABV
= 225 ml * (63/100)
≈ 141.75 ml
2. Calculate the total volume of the final mixture:
- Volume of water added = 300 ml
- Volume of sugar syrup added = 300 g (since water and sugar have approximately the same density, we can consider their volumes to be the same)
- Total volume of the final mixture = Volume of rum + Volume of water + Volume of sugar syrup
= 225 ml + 300 ml + 300 ml
= 825 ml
3. Calculate the alcohol concentration in the final mixture:
- Total volume of the final mixture = 825 ml
- Amount of alcohol in the final mixture = 141.75 ml (from step 1)
- Alcohol concentration = (Amount of alcohol in the final mixture / Total volume of the final mixture) * 100%
= (141.75 ml / 825 ml) * 100%
≈ 17.18%
So, the final liquid will have an alcohol concentration of approximately 17.18%.
@@hereforthedrinks263 Thank you! I'm having trouble finding whole nutmeg. How much grated nutmeg would you add instead of the half nutmeg?
@@miksologia So I just measured half a nutmeg and it’s around 3g.
Spice up some whine?
Exactly Mats! You might check out our Christmas Cocktails Compilation - over there I show you how to make a great Mulled Wine. Cheers! 😊
i would love to have the measurements in American units rather than grams and milliliters
Makes sense. I will keep it in mind
