it goes without saying that all good kendoka who watch Kendo Rant already know the difference between kendo and kenjutsu - any tips for effectively communicating the distinction to newcomers who might have been lured into kendo by the idea of becoming a badass samurai?? 👀
Hi Andy Sensei! I have a few questions. How straight should the left leg be in kamae? And another question. At the seminar before the exam, we were told not to stand in a too wide stance. The left leg should be immediately behind the right. But in almost all the videos with shiai, the players stand very wide with their left foot.
Nice video Andy, thanks for the effort you put into making these. I did my 3rd Dan in Nito a couple of months ago. I agree with the whole "crutch" thing. In my grading I only demonstrated once in each fight that I "can" use the Shoto to disable my opponent. The rest of the time I pulled it back towards either side of the Do depending on what target I struck. Just thought I'd throw this in here.
I've had a crack at the base of my left big toe for years, I can't get it to heal up fully. When it does heal it eventually splits. So I go through lots of zinc oxide tape...

Sometimes we warm up on the weekend with kata, other than that we only do it the two weeks before a grading.
