Just replaced my gen 2 with the gen 3. The new version has thicker tube's and weights a few more pounds than the gen 2. I pull a 14k 5th wheel and never had any issue with the gen 2. This new design is substantially more robust and safety is always on my mind. The triangle supports are also thicker than the previous design. Andersen is a great company and has always assisted when needed.
By chance did you measure to see what the height difference was when using the puck adapter and the steel hitch (with the lowest ball setting) vs the height of the Gen 3 hitch when installed? I would be curious to know what those measurements were from the trucks bed floor to the top of the ball (with the ball in the lowest setting). This info would help me determine if I can buy a new 2500 chevy with the puck or if I have to stick with rails that I will have to install. I pull a small fifth wheel that’s designed for a 1/2 ton but want a 3/4 ton. I need a low ball setting. Thanks for the help! Great vid by the way!
they have those heights listed on their website as a diagram comparing the models. The steel hitch is shorter too accommodate the rails thickness so the end height is about the same. So I know the ball height was basically the same once installed for both on the lowest setting. On my new 2500 I have about 8.5" of rail clearance with my Grand Design 5th wheel.
Nice overview of the original versus Gen3 Came to checkout your review after seeing your comment on BTBRV’s video of the recent Gen 2 failure.
Thanks for the information
