Doesn't matter how much formal schooling Brian Johnson had- the man is a genius. And very gracious, taking time with the fans like this. As a kid the FX on "Space:1999" amazed me, and IMO still hold up well today. Even after reading "The Making of 'Space:1999' " and the chapter on his FX team, he still had that gift of making those fantastic shots look real.
I've long admired Mr. Johnson and his work, which I miss *terribly* in this era of ghastly CGI. In both appearance and manner, he reminds me a little bit of the unworldly guitar virtuoso Alan Holdsworth.
As he worked on the Empire Strikes Back JJ should employ him for the new Star Wars film. JJ has mooted that they will use some models and physical effects. You won't find better than this guy. It is time for a CGI backlash because if you can create anything in a computer you often end up with complete trash like the Transformer film 'Dark side of the Moon'. Just because you can do anything doesn't mean you have to at the expense of story and acting. The further we progress with CGI the closer we are to becoming like the Krell from 'Forbidden Planet'. At some point in the future we might just end up living in fully immersive dream worlds creating anything we want at a whim.
You wouldn't get away with that today, he! he!. Go from mixing concrete to working in the British film industry with one of great special effects legends Les Bowie. Today you would have to gain 20 A-Levels and pay a fortune to a university just for the possibilty, if that, to work in the film industry. God! How times have changed, and not for the better.
This is the Mandela Effect, because I am certain that I read news reports for years that Brian Johnson died of a heart attack just after "The Empire Strikes Back".

CG is okay when done well by companies like WETA and ILM. Star Wars is gonna suck, because JJ is making it.

For a guy in his seventies, he's looking pretty damn sharp.
the day the earth caught fire actually was pretty decent

Brian Johnson has the personality of a face flannel.
