Love the enthusiasm for Annabeth seeing the Fates. It matches her misunderstanding of the prophecy in book 4, as well as the Great Prophecy. I believe the only reason for Percy to see them is first-person narration. This episode also proves that the kids are not too smart for knowing things they should know, because they get things wrong about their own story as it develops. They are familiar with stories that have been told a bunch, just like most of the audience, and we know they still have to make choices about how the stories relate to them now.
