Just so you guys know, in August you can watch The International 3 Tournament (or Ti3) INSIDE the game client for free. You can watch each player's perspective (meaning where their mouse is, what they're looking at, what they're clicking, etc.) and can have a broadcaster cast the game, all inside the game. The total prize pool currently is 2.6 MILLION dollars and climbing as more people contribute. There's also Ti3 Qualifier games available right now to watch! Check it out!
funny they should have mentioned this but apparently in the test client "Added intro movie for new users, fixed black screen displaying for new users."
Me either. And the people I know who play them do nothing but complain about them and the people they get matched with all the time. I'm just like "shut up and play better games".
I don't have much of an interest in playing Dota, but I really enjoy listening to these guys talking about this game here and on the bombcast. The game seems seriously intense.
MOBA is too broad a term, it can be used to reference EVERY online game, pretty much. Action - Game following a character or avatar as it progresses through a level or map Real Time - Actions performed as the commands are given, not on a turn by turn base Strategy - Resource management and using multiple units and tactics to defeat an enemy. where as MOBA could be used to identify features in games like COD, Battlefield, CS, Quake, WoW, Scrolls and so on.
Actually it's there move because they have to make it and put it on the steam workshop. Then it's the users move by up voting it so valve will put it on dota.
I've just started playing Dota2 recently and basically avoided public matches for as long as possible because I've been warned about the not-so-great welcome given to new players. Obviously playing bots for the lulz is great, but there's no factor of reality of anything in that so it gets pretty boring at times. So I've also tried out pub games. Aaaand 8/10 games I played with actual people were dreadful. I actually love the game, but the community really needs to get a grip. I know if you've played a while, noobs get annoying and maybe even ruin your game at some point sometime but making someone feel bad about it just ruins it for everyone and most of all - puts off the new player from trying at all. Anyway, good game though. Would be nice to add people who would want to play in a team sometime though, on a more relaxed laid-back level without the entire expectation of you being a complete expert in everything :P
Yes but it may get boring if you have no friends to play with, and playing offline does not help because I can beat hard bots, than when I go online I suck.
DarinaK29 I played one game and one person was so pissed at me bwing new he left his keyboard and just sat there for the rest of the game. seems no one cares to help new players.
Whether or not it's garbage has nothing to do with your earlier comment. You said they weren't enjoying to watch, but it seems obvious that if a lot of people watch it, then it is enjoyable to a lot of people. Just because you don't find them enjoyable doesn't mean others don't, and many people do like to watch them.
Well, that would depend on what you mean when you say it's "garbage." If you mean that it's something you personally find distasteful to watch, then that's subjective. If you mean to say that it's something that nobody would enjoy watching, then yes, clearly you're wrong.
Glad we agree on something. Also i didn´t mean to piss you off or anything. And i have no intention on slamming Dota 2 either, i just get angry at the part of the gaming communities who ruin it for the rest of us. And you are clearly not one of them.
pretty boring to watch but fun to play. I don't care for the comp scene, this game is fun to play casually. I wish the item drops dropped more often, even if it was commons or uncommons. I've played over 600 games and have barely one and a half pages of items.
MOBA = Riots word for DOTA clone... Since DotA was the first recognized project, most people referred to games similar to is as DOTA-Clones... But Riot didn't want to mention their biggest rival every time they tried to pitch their game. So they made the MOBA genre as a marketing ploy. There, nice and simple explanation there for you.
It really isn't fun? Or it really isn't a time sink? I think 40 or 50 minutes for 1 match kind of points to it being a time sink. Especially if you are the type of person who likes to read guides and learn and practice builds ... yeah ... I could lose a lot of time in a game like this lol
Ever since their quick look at the original (Wii Release) Monster Hunter Tri/3, I can't take GiantBomb seriously. Whining about being unable to run when they aren't holding the run button, complaints about flexing after potions.. Anyway..about what I'd expect. Shopping action over actual matches! Ha ha ha...
Did I miss something here? They were yelling at each other about how awful they think the other is... On the topic of World of Tanks, it is pretty shit in the low tiers.
Bit of misinformation coming from "the dota guy", a few of the heroes like Drow Ranger and Slark and Meepo have full 1800 night vision (the same you get during the day) instead of 800 night vision. Also there's a few that have ~1100 but that's whatever.
ARTS is what everyone calls it... MOBA is only what Riot and drinkers of their cool-aid call it. Because DotA-clone was the name everyone was given to all games like DotA. And Riot didn't want to mention their biggest competitor, whenever they tried to pitch their game. MOBA is a shameless marketing ploy.
I dont get the hostility towards DOTA and MOBAs in the comment section. I dont have any interest in MOBAs but I dont begrudge the people who do. I get it, they are complex, competitive, teamwork focused and filled with a variety of possible ways to play. That's neat, but I dont care for the game mechanics. /watch?v=xzpndHtdl9A
Fail of you to assume people can tell your joking or being sarcastic with your comment. How is anyone able to tell the difference by just reading a comment with no context at all? If you're going to post sarcastic comments make sure you label your comment accordingly or be ready to face a ton of people calling you "dumb" etc.
Jeff knows what's up.

Sniper's Shrapnel ability does work on buildings. Buildings take 33% damage, so you can use it to take the tower down faster.
Brad is having none of the jokes. Thank you, Jeff, for saying what most of us are thinking.
Evolution of a DOTA player! Awesome!
funny they should have mentioned this but apparently in the test client "Added intro movie for new users, fixed black screen displaying for new users."
Comes on 3 floppies lmao
You can hear the frustration in every syllable of brads speech.
Me either. And the people I know who play them do nothing but complain about them and the people they get matched with all the time. I'm just like "shut up and play better games".
Vinny and Jeff are really great parents for Brad.
I don't have much of an interest in playing Dota, but I really enjoy listening to these guys talking about this game here and on the bombcast. The game seems seriously intense.
Passive-aggressive Brad is my favourite Brad.
Brad is great as a backseat driver. Really good at explaining stuff etc for the not so initiated people.
I'm not into these kinds of games but I appreciate you taking the time to explain the acronyms.

Action RTS (ARTS) is a good way to describe DotA-esque games
don't you hear a weird sound? Like some kind of object moving really fast over your head?
Actually it's there move because they have to make it and put it on the steam workshop. Then it's the users move by up voting it so valve will put it on dota.
Glad to see more members of Giant Bomb stepping foot on The Lord's Pitch.
"These guys all have to be in the same robot at the same time, right?" DAAAAMN
I'm pretty much with Jeff on this one :P
You totally can put an announcer in the workshop.
I've just started playing Dota2 recently and basically avoided public matches for as long as possible because I've been warned about the not-so-great welcome given to new players. 0:58:35 The GiantBomb announcer pack needs to happen. Your move Valve.
Brad's quiet ire is hilarious.
The guys should just make it and submit it to the workshop.
It actually started in the original Starcraft.
Jeff should make an announcer pack where he sounds incredibly uninterested :p
Jesus the TH-cam Player covers part of the video now

good to see someone else in the world that dislikes these games. i just don't get all of the hype.
Shrapnel does affect towers.
You got that right sunny boy.
yeap ... do you think they could make one of the King Ryan with just the podcast voice .. money would go to his family
Giant Bomb announcer pack for Dota, make it happen!
What the buck...Sniper is the easiest hero for last hitting. The speed of his projectile is almost instantly.
So just because American Idol is one of the most popular shows on TV, does that mean its objectively wrong to think its garbage?
Brad loves the game and they have daily Dota content on their site - & it was mostly a silly joke video.
As an old timer dota 2 player the first minute was hilarious
I will never understand the appeal of these type of games.
gotta play the game to find out
Unfortunately I did
:'(
Goodbye Sun. It's been sorta nice knowing you
It really isn't, one match is between 40 and 50 minutes
When the players are terrible, and none of the info you need is displayed, and no one on the team communicates, yeah its not great.
Well, that would depend on what you mean when you say it's "garbage." If you mean that it's something you personally find distasteful to watch, then that's subjective. If you mean to say that it's something that nobody would enjoy watching, then yes, clearly you're wrong.
Vinny video! Fuck yeah!
now let's discuss the Zimmerman trial
Glad we agree on something. Also i didn´t mean to piss you off or anything. And i have no intention on slamming Dota 2 either, i just get angry at the part of the gaming communities who ruin it for the rest of us. And you are clearly not one of them.
Riot and their cool-aid drinkers are the only ones calling it MOBA.
Everyone else calls them ARTS.
GIANT BOMB ANNOUNCER PACK COM ON
It's free, give it a go, It's better than they make it look here
Dota? Never heard of it.
In what way?
GIANT!
pretty boring to watch but fun to play. I don't care for the comp scene, this game is fun to play casually. I wish the item drops dropped more often, even if it was commons or uncommons. I've played over 600 games and have barely one and a half pages of items.
But his damage is shit. Imagine trying to last hit vs a treant or anyone with an axe.
couldn't agree more.
Hey, if that's what you like, I'm not judging. Not really my style, but it doesn't surprise me that it's yours.
So dota is the new patrick in terms of video dislikes huh.
He was clearly joking.
Since Dota and LoL are two of the biggest e-sports in the world right now, it is almost safe to say that you are objectively wrong.
cant agree more
Well, did you like it? :)
There are plenty of mobas that are not dota clones.
Night Stalker
MOBA = Riots word for DOTA clone...

There, nice and simple explanation there for you.
And not a single game of Dota was played.
Found this on reddit dota2 sub and this was awesome watching more videos and sub keep up the dota 2 videos!
With about a thousand games played, it's probably better for my mental health to skip this QL.
hahaha i never noticed the dota voiceover sounded like the chick from LOTR
Dont you just love the battleing 12 year olds in chat discussing which game is better?
"look" boring, but seeing as how they're free, you could easily see for yourself.
Feed more.
would have been a billion times funnier if you played a game of dota
It really isn't fun? Or it really isn't a time sink? I think 40 or 50 minutes for 1 match kind of points to it being a time sink. Especially if you are the type of person who likes to read guides and learn and practice builds ... yeah ... I could lose a lot of time in a game like this lol
Moba and Dota. Don't know what the fuck either of these mean. Part of me wants to know and the other half doesn't give a shit.
trap sprung
Its a LoMa folks, don't need no moba or arts bull
Ever since their quick look at the original (Wii Release) Monster Hunter Tri/3, I can't take GiantBomb seriously. Whining about being unable to run when they aren't holding the run button, complaints about flexing after potions..

Good lord, this has to be the worst possible way to show off Dota 2.
Where the fuck have you seen a MOBA film?
HECK YEAH
I almost disliked this video for the Storm Spirit voice dis at the end.
Bit of misinformation coming from "the dota guy", a few of the heroes like Drow Ranger and Slark and Meepo have full 1800 night vision (the same you get during the day) instead of 800 night vision. Also there's a few that have ~1100 but that's whatever.
why
wtf is this madness
all of my friends rave about this and league, but holy shit these games look so fucking boring.
So I've never seen anything about Dota 2. I'm watching this and I hope to god I don't like it. Cuz if I do, it'll ruin my life...
I dont get the hostility towards DOTA and MOBAs in the comment section. I dont have any interest in MOBAs but I dont begrudge the people who do. Zero interest in Dota2, i hope Jeff and Vinny are honest about their oppinions about the game.
QUICK LOOK? 1:05:36
Looks like valve is still yet to make a good game.
this looks pretty boring
*woosh*
le trolle faec
TH-cam comments and the ARTS community. The worst mix ever*
FTFY
Such a great game, but this quick look made it look boring =(. Should have probably had someone who knew how to play do it.
It isn't at all. To be honest, this isn't a really good video to show it off. All of the time is spent in the tutorial.
