I saw Christof Sielecki has an English repertoire on chessable featuring the fianchetto grunfeld. I remembered your "enthusiasm" for the opening and i was curious if you ever found something you liked against it.
Still have problems with my options. I will check out Christof's work, always love it. The question is always whether or not it's going to work from my preferred move orders!
Hey Tony! I play a similar repertoire, but it may be of interest to you that I avoid this line completely because I also think it sucks to play against. If 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 for example you can transpose into a Russian variation of the Grunfield which I find to be preferable. If 1. Nf3 d5 2. g3 c6 3. Bg2 Nf6 4. O-O g6 5. d3 and you get a KIA against it. This way keeps the game imbalanced but I suppose it may be difficult to get your b3 KID I'd still think this may be worth looking into though. Anywho thanks for the video it was entertaining as usual, keep it up Tony!
Yeah I have definitely been down this road, but I just love the 6.b3 KID too much to play anything else against it. I have also gone other routes like 1.Nf3 Nf6 2. g3 g6 3.b3, looking for something like 3...Bg7 4.Bb2 O-O 5.O-O d5 6.c4, which has a nice and different flavor, but it's avoidable through other move orders, e.g. 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 g6!? 3.Bg2 Bg7, when you have to play 4.d4 if you want to stop Black from going ...e5.
@@TonyRotella That's pretty fair you get KID a lot more anyway so that makes a lot of sense. I really felt your pain when I saw that line though XD I guess I have the luxury of avoiding it because I prefer the Petrosian variation of the KID anyway
Look who is back, back again!!! Loving these videos!!!
Thanks for watching man! :)
I know we're not supposed to call this a comeback, but it sure looks like one
My man Colin up in this.
let's go Tony

what's the thinking behind the early Ne5 before developing the other pieces? Just a good square for the knight?
It is just a good square, but it also makes Black's natural development with ...Nc6 tricky, as Nxc6 leaves Black with a weak pawn on c6.
Clean game

I enjoyed the game! Looking forward to the opening video :D
And an ACL surgery sucks, takes ages to recover from too... :/
Yeah, bright and early tomorrow morning! Thanks for watching!
