  • Starting from the accident that crippled Bonnie with the Red River Plunge - and following the shootouts in Platte City, Missouri - we follow the trail to the abandoned amusement park of Dexfield Park - outside of Dexter, Iowa.
More Abandoned History and Stories of Ghost Towns - surrounding the notorious criminals "Bonne and Clyde"

All pictures found in the public domain
    - except the Red River Plunge picture with the bridge. I found the picture and felt it was a great shot - I'll give full attribution below -but a note - that the bridge is no longer. They tore the bridge down - and moved the marker to nearby Collingsworth Pioneers Park. I'm thankful for the picture by George Thomas. You can find the pic on his Flikr page - and a link listed below. Fantastic picture (just wish the bridge was still around).

Also - There is this fantastic book - that I'm going to leave in the description - hopefully, you get a chance to read it. I watched quite a few movies, and read quite a few sites, and other sources - but I found the book "Go Down Together - The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde" by Jeff Guinn to give me the best background knowledge on the topic. -- In fact, Jeff was quoted online when the Barrow's gas station in West Dallas was being torn down - I found his knowledge on the subject plentiful - and it's a great read! Check it out.

The life of Bonnie and Clyde had some close encounters and experiences with both Ghost Town's and Abandoned Places - this episode explores a little further with the crime spree duo - what stories are you familiar with - maybe you have experienced different stories with Bonnie and Clyde?

    Sexual romantic killer couple.
They used to get gas etc from my gradpa in West Dallas.
He knew the Bonnie and Clyde family's.
He always paid him everything he owed.
They always treated my grandparents really well
My grandmother was always concerned about them. When they were around.
I met Mr. Hinsons son and his museum in Gibsland, LA
I went to the shoot out location.
I have some items from BOOTS the son of Ted Hinson
    From the scene.
I am a retired lawman from outta Dallas County, Texas
I still have a Sheriff Bill Decker Sheriffs Bade presented to me many rears ago.
The Sheriff who sent Ted Hinson one of his deputies with Texas Ranger Hamer that was the law enforcement who killed the couple.
    Ty
God bless you and your family Brother

Thanks for subscribing. I'm so thankful that you stopped to comment on some details about the couple. I do more work on Ghost Towns - and it was a little more difficult to pin down places - simply because the Clyde was always on the move! One of the things I didn't talk about was Henry's Barrow's filling station. (Clydes Dad) - apparently, they tore the building down a couple years ago! :( It sounds like the locals tried to save it - and I know there are mixed feelings about whether you should glorify criminals or not - so the investor who owned it had his opinion and that's fair. I just felt it was more for historical purposes. The Highway men on Netflix - shows a closer look at Hamer - humanizes him more - just the scene where he is leaving his wife to go on the road - was enough to get people thinking about it. -- it's a great topic to discuss. Thanks for the comments DCJ!

You must have family roots in West Dallas?

I enjoyed both episodes very much. I've been into Bonnie & Clyde since my younger days, although I do feel awkward being fascinated by a duo who actually murdered people...

Thank you for listening! Let me know if you make it to West Dallas. Would be interesting to hear your story on that!

@@midwestghosttown Hopefully, at the end of the month, I'll be making my way to the Barrow graves. I've been to the old Barrow gas station and the school that Bonnie went to when she was young. My first visit to Texas a few years back, I was able to go to the Sixth Floor museum and take in all of that JFK stuff so hopefully, a visit to more Bonnie & Clyde stuff this time.... but it all depends on if someone else has time to take us there. We are at the mercy of everyone else's schedules!
