Our churches are our culture. Our culture is Christian. Our values are Christian . The link has been severed but is now repairing. You are doing your part in this healing. Well done ❤

A great channel to watch is Irreverend,. It consists of two or sometimes three, CoE vicars chatting about Faith and current affairs. I was made aware of the channel after Jamie Franklin, one of the vicars, was talking to James Delingpole, when he was on utube,.

I am not religious, nor do I come from a religious family, but churches are an important part of our history and heritage. Agree with Julia that you can feel the centuries of worship that has gone on before.

Hi Richard & Julia, this was a really nice chat. I wonder if Julia's group she sings with, would be agreeable to doing a video, so we could hear them, it sounds beautiful. I love churches, I think you can just go there and...be...if that makes sense. Thank you so much, I loved watching and listening to you both. Have a wonderful rest of the day! Lots of love Kathy x 💖

Re. children having difficulty learning to tell the time with an analogue clock or watch:
The late, great comedian, Dave Allen, performed a wonderful sketch called "Teaching your kid time". A classic - worth searching for on TH-cam.

I love old church buildings, when they're empty and quiet, they have a stunning atmosphere, and a sense of peace. It's a shame all too often the people that attend them don't use them for their community x

Despite being a very lapsed Roman Catholic I'm a strong supporter of the Churches Conservation Trust and a passionate church crawler, often on my own. I read this somewhere and it resonates with me ..

    • @the-english-couple

Absolutely. I suppose it is often a case of 'oh I must pop in there sometime' and inescapably the intent never materialises into actuality. In this day and age of tech that supposedly frees us up of the daily chores grind, 'life' still seems to get in the way. My friends and I say this all the time

@@the-english-couple so true. Funny, I back packed Australia and South East Asia (pre mobile phones) before I'd even been to Scotland how crazy is that! We have such an amazing Island. I have made a promise to make the absolute most of this great place. It was only after I had seen such beautiful temples in Asia that I truly began to appreciate our own great religious buildings and all aspects of their meanings. How strange life can be eh!? Great channel.

Yes I agree Anne, there is something of a weight on the air in any church I've been in bar one or two (recently built churches). There's no simple way of explaining the gentle barrage on the senses about these places. I'm sure at least a part of the feeling is likely to do be down to physics and the way the old stone structures were built and whether the sun or shade hits them, and at what time of day. Science cannot yet, or perhaps ever, explain the whole experience though. Oops, sorry I went off on one there haha xx

Hi you two, lovely to see you out and about. It's absolutely tipping it down as I type! You can't beat the calming atmosphere of a church. How is that achieved? Is it the age, grandeur, height, thick stone? Richard, you've been mentioning Julia's website in the description below but I watch on a smart TV and a tablet, neither of which have that. I only found it because I know her surname. To help build her numbers, cound you say it or have it scroll across the bottom on screen?

singing rounders, i loved it when i was young.
to sit in a group around a fire and sing.
we would be divided into sections and each section would start one line behind the other.
when the first section started singing the second line the second section would start on the first line and so on and around we would go. each section singing one line behind so a simple little rhyme like
    "row row row your boat,
    merrily down the stream,
    merrily merrily merrily merrily,
    life is but a dream."
    could go on for minutes.
apparently the meaning of that little ditty is about life's journey and to keep on going and not give up no matter what our life presents.
childish perhaps, but building friendship and harmony.

Yes it is disheartening when that happens although it can be understandable if they have been targeted by people with undesirable intentions. Here's hoping that in time with more frequent good willed visitors these awe inspiringly wonderful sanctuaries can open up more often and for longer perhaps.

Churches were record keepers. Births, marriages deaths. An historic connection to every past resident of this nation. Then we have the architecture, a record again of changes in our land. The change from Anglo Saxon to Norman to the mostly hideous sixties and seventies new builds.
    All fascinating and informative.

This is a very interesting talk. May I suggest a very helpful book in which the Indian author Vishal Mangalwadi looks at the development (history) of the western world and interjects experiences from his own background and culture. The title is "The Book That Made Your World". There are plenty of very interesting reviews of it on Amazon.

I come from an ancient and noble family who have always lived by The Old Ways. We don't have churches, because The Great Mother Goddess is all around us. As you're probably aware, the early Christians persecuted us long ago; and we're still vilified to this day....and yet, people from all beliefs are welcomed to our festivals. Beltane, Samhain and of course Yule, as well as the others. We are rarely tolerated at their places of worship though. "Double standards" is a phrase that comes to mind.
I happen to like old churches, they're usually beautiful buildings. What I can't abide are what I call 'Sunday Christians', they're the ones who are holier than thou on Sundays at church, but would have the shirt off your back the rest of the week!
I'll stick to my Old Ways, my children choose to do so too, as do my Grand-children and my beautiful Great Grand-daughter. We have but one Rule by which we live. "An it Harm None - Do as Ye Will". It works very well; and it has for thousands of years.
    Nice video, keep it going.
To You, Richard, and to Julia, I say: "Blessed Be"

Why not try what the century of people who went through those buildings were there for - relationship, not religion? With the Lord God Almighty and His Son the saviour of the world.
Concerning your vids on what is happening around us - I.D./cashless society etc have a read of the prophecies in the Bible and Revelation particularly, it’s all there warning us. Deserts - the Israelites were led through the Negev Desert, experiencing much!
