@@BigPuddin it is a relic for the handgun. The cartridge is the .45 ACP, Automatic Colt Pistol. The round's name is historical, used as marketing at the time to impress upon the average purchaser that they were getting a then modern cartridge(also to differentiate from Colt's other rounds in .45), but using it ro refer to a handgun in a video game is only here because the developers wisely know it is always cheaper to not license the name of a weapon like "Model 1911" because that is money that, at the end of the day, is better served keeping the lights on and the developers fed. Even double-action revolvers still weren't automatic, as it required manual operation (pulling the trigger) to cycle the round into the chamber. An automatic cycles the next round in, well, automatically when the gun is fired.
OP isn't wrong. The icon and weapon they use in game is roughly a .45 1911 which fired a .45 ACP ("Automatic" Colt Pistol) cartidge hence it being the .45 Automatic. Do I really have to explain this? How is Civvie oblivious to this, he has had to have played Call lf Duty.... let alone Google'd this.
The thing about it being an automatic pistol is technically correct, given that it's a 1911. The ammo for that gun is .45 ACP, meaning Automatic colt pistol. Because the bullets automatically enter the chamber. 1911 was a different time.
@@CrizzyEyes Automatically loading is fine. I still call pistols automatics but my buddies get butt hurt. I say Auto Loaders around them to iron out their whining.

A few of the character designers and animators did work on Dead Head Fred, check that game out, has the same vibe and style with reallly good gameplay, a great 3D Zelda-Like for the PSP so you can run it on your phone emulated.
I love how Civvie doesn’t even acknowledge the Evil Dead reboot. Edit: People are assuming I don’t like this reboot. I just thought it was funny that Civvie skipped the reboot to talk about Ash vs Evil Dead
Dawn of War was my first RTS, mostly played FPS stuff. It was so good I've bough all expansions at release, and I rarely (if ever) buy games at release (expensive). Back then when Games Workshop was stingy with givinig their IP, so many talented developers were rejected it's not even funny. These days they throw them around but there are barely any talented developers these days that could put them to good use...
I really enjoy the side story that Civvie does it’s interesting with just enough background to draw the person in while not being in the foreground. Then accompany that with wonderful gameplay of old shooters with some other games and it makes every episode unique and fun to watch.
Bit of an ackshually moment but the .45 (the .45 ACP cartridge stands for Automatic Colt Pistol) is an automatic handgun because it is self-loading as opposed to the old timey revolvers that had to be cocked after each bullet, that it replaced. And before anyone jumps in the replies with "who cares, etc.", I think it's a neat detail and learning about things is nice.

12:40 it's oldschool, but apparently "automatic" describes a self-loading handgun. That would include the 1911. Pull the trigger to fire a round and, automatically, the next is ready so to speak. 🤠
12:38 time to bust out the gun knowledge The manual is correct in both cases, civvie, although a little obtuse. ".45 Automatic" refers to the fact this gun is a classic .45 ACP Colt 1911. ACP stands for Automatic Colt Pistol. Referring to guns by their cartridges is old gun tradition. The gun itself is semi-automatic in function. Hence, it could be called a .45 Automatic semi-automatic, but nobody does that. Isn't English fun?

Yeah, fully automatic weaponry wasn't very common back then so calling a self-loading pistol "automatic" was usually not confusing.

Bit of an ackshually moment but the .45 (the .45 ACP cartridge stands for Automatic Colt Pistol) is an automatic handgun because it is self-loading as opposed to the old timey revolvers that had to be cocked after each bullet, that it replaced. Exactly, I'd just like to add that if a pistol fires full auto it's called machine pistol.
So what does semi-automatic mean? That it only automatically loads every _other_ bullet?

The manual is correct in both cases, civvie, although a little obtuse.
