From the almighty James Mason to that clown of a guy? Not to mention MarylinManson/The Nun version of Barlow.... nothing even close to the 1979 masterpiece.
100% agree... this and the new Beetlejuice film were huge disappointments. So much potential, yet both felt very rushed and not flushed out. Both films had huge plot holes and throw away characters. Very disappointed. Thanks for the video, good job.
The 1979 vampire kids at the window scared the sh** out of me. I just saw images of the 2024 Salem's Lot vampire kids at the window, and they don't scare me at all. They look like some sort of ghost thing you'd find in an animated Disney cartoon movie.
How did you feel about the rob lo version of the window scene..take movie out of it and give me your opinion on it..thanks I enjoyed your comment you seem to know what you're talking about..I listen to or read intelligent comments.
@@FreeLunchFreddy You know something, I actually don't think the Rob Lowe 2004 version was all that bad. There were some very scary scenes, one of which is the bus scene. Regarding the 2004 vampire kids at the window, less scary than 1979, more scary than 2024.
Mate, I just watched this movie, lol 😂. What the hell was that! So much exposition is missing. The ending is so far removed from the book that I forgot I was watching salems lot. Wtf? Did I just watch? No wonder Warner Bros cancelled this shite 2 years ago. And apparently, it's Steven King's favourite version!!!!. Ha ha lol ❤
Thankyou for saying it as it is I just finished watching the film and totally agree with you with all the hype surrounding it and other youtubers blowing smoke up its arse I was expecting better and it was disappointing to be honest.
The original is a classic horror film and the remake is ok,but alot of the good scenes to build up the story is missing ,and too much CGI on the vampires,Barlow is not even frightening compared to the 1979 version ,it wasn't great overall
No character development what so ever in this film, so when the characters do get killed, you couldn't care less, even the ones that survived, you just don't care for them. I would put this on a par with The 2005 The Fog remake, it's that bad.
1979 is my favorite vampire movie ever. The rob Lowe one doesn't even look interesting. This new I'm going to watch because I've been waiting for it. The cast looks typical Hollywood. The book and movie (79) are my second favorite Stephen King works.
@Shane-fd5es I liked it too, found it quite haunting when it first aired on TV. True, it wasn't perfect (leaving that one vampire alive after killing like ten others, at least two children) but I found it resonated with me. I actually think Salem's Lot could be made into an 8-episode miniseries if given the chance. But it would require someone who really understood the story. I'm thinking Mike Flanagan, but then again he already made Midnight Mass. I gotta check out Chapelwaite. Know where I can stream it?
I think the book is the scariest story King has ever written. I saw the first movie as a kid, and it was years before I could sleep in a room without the shades drawn tight. The one with rob lowe, I made it maybe a half hour and wasn’t even interested in seeing the rest. I had high, high hopes for this one, but expected to be disappointed. I might watch it tonight. Just because. Re read the book last autumn for first time in years, it was just as great as I remembered…it’s a shame they couldn’t just stick to the original story line and do it justice.
@daniellappvp yes I saw it. He is entitled to his opinions as we all are. I liked it more than he did but his opinion is valid. If you're going to review something accuracy is important and his not saying the nane right twice makes it feel like he does not care about the details. Either way, maybe that's just my hang up. In the end scheme it's a minor quibble and nit like he killed someone. ;)
I was so disappointed! I love the original 1979 and I didn’t even mind the remake later with Rob Lowe. But this was a total joke. It should’ve been on nickelodeon they make the main kid in the movie this hero that’s not even afraid of vampires what a joke why would we be afraid of vampires If a 11 year old kid isn’t even afraid of them. I actually fast forwarded some of the movie because it was so boring. I didn’t even care if the vampires would’ve killed everyone.
If your a baby boomer like me you can have an appreciation for the drive-in scene with all the cool 60"s and 70's cars which I thought was quite creative. i saw the original when it first aired and was impressed with the realism and good acting. Did not feel this one was really that bad, thought the ending was a little anti-climactic. All in all, not a bad remake.
Very good, honest review. Seem to be familiar with the source material, unlike the rest of the YT reviewers. Was hoping for a faithful adaptation, particularly how Barlow and Straker are portrayed.
This movie had many problems. First was Ben. They took away his past experience with the Marsten House. No mention of it. It seemed as if they were going to go that way at first with the first shoot of him was sitting in his car staring at the Marsten House, but no. He was just a guy who was a writer who lived in the town as a kid and came back. No real reason given as to why he came back. Turning Mark into a Gary Stu. Was there nothing that this kid couldn't do? Book Mark, made foolish mistakes at times. Showed moments of vulnerability. Hell book Mark was going under Barlow's hypnotic spell as Ben was getting ready to stake Barlow. This movie version of Mark is just perfect. Swapping Matt and Susan. In the book it was Susan that went into the Marsten House with Mark, not Matt. Book Matt had a heart attack after he was confronted by vampire Mike Ryerson and spent the rest of the book (until he died from a second heart attack that is) in the hospital. Book Matt wouldn't have been foolish enough to go to the Marsten House and even advised against it when Susan suggested it in the book. First because Straker wasn't a vampire and could overpower them until after sunset giving Barlow a wake up snack, and secondly Barlow could have set up some traps in the house. I could have understood the swap if they were going to have Susan either survive or die without being turned, but she was turned anyway so it made no difference. It also took away the impact of Matt dying from natural causes that made it seem as if God himself was turning his back on the town. The climax at the drive in movie theatre was dumb. Having all the vampire in the trunks of cars that are all in one place? The thing was in the book the vampires were spread out throughout the town hiding in cellars, attics, crawlspaces, sheds, etc. Hence the reason why at the end Ben and Mark had to burn the town down. Also the whole thing with Susan's mother was pointless.
This should have been a 3 part 6 hour series or a 6 part mini series one hour each. It seemed rushed like the editing room cut out whole entire sections to make it one movie. i give it 2 out of 5 stars
@@MovieEmporium As I remember it, he's forced to drink Barlow's blood, and the other vampires won't touch him. He goes to a bus station but I can't remember if he dies there or takes a bus out of town.

Felt way too rushed & by the end I was rooting for the ugly CGI vampire to kill the last 2 characters. Stop with remakes already
Thank you but no thank you. If Stephen King says this movie is really good then I'm good. Y'all going to movies with stupid expectations and then y'all try to bash the movies. I wish that the movie would have came out before anybody reviewed it because you guys really suck.

Salem's Lot is my absolute favorite novel by Stephen King. I was disappointed in both movie versions. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give the 1979 version a 5. I would give the 2004 version a 6 because it was a bit more faithful to the book than the first one. Both films had their frightening moments but both were weak adaptations. If the 2024 version is at least more faithful to the source material I'll be happy. I'm not expecting anything spectacular.
Have you watched the trailer? From that alone you can clearly see it doesn’t stay faithful to the book 🙄 Tobe Hooper’s adaption remains supreme, actually improving on the book with its (imo) characterisation choice for Barlow
Incoherent? Hardly. It's a tightly written adaption of the novel that moves along at a quick pace. Salem's Lot is one of my favorite books so I don't say that lightly. Is this movie perfect? Nope. But it's a lot of fun. Highly recommended Halloween season fun..
I watched it and it was asylum level nonsense with glowing crosses and shiny contact lenses...dull actors (Alfred Woodard wasted) and boring "scares"... Stick to the Tobe Hooper classic...this one is a snooze...
This remake really did suck...and not in a good vampire-sucking way. It strayed so far from the source material that it was barely recognizable.
