This channel is so refreshing to watch. I feel like it’s a channel to get things off of your chest personally which probably helps overall as well as informing your general audience about how it is to be a TH-camr.

I think part of the issue with Team Pokemart too was the slightly excessive cross promotion. I distinctly remember the comments of every community post on GLR about it being mostly negative and complaining about not subscribing to that channel yet still getting it in their sub feed either way. I was surprised cause it was the first time I really saw anyone in your audience really actively being against you, and I felt bad cause I was one of the people who voted yes in the poll where you asked if people would be interested in a Pokemon channel.
That being said, I remember my favorite video on that channel, and one I thought was significantly better than the others, was the one about Ash Ketchem's Pokemon League experience or something like that. Talking about the goofy behaviors and inconsistencies of the anime just felt more at home like GLR, as opposed to the "new stock" videos. So I was disappointed that there weren't more videos like that. But after watching this video, it makes a ton of sense why that content was so time consuming, and I'm definitely glad you've put your resources back into GLR.

Team Pokemart enjoyer here! Apparently, that EXTREMELY niche community you were talking about also included me, because dry, sarcastic humor is EXACTLY what my sense of humor is, and I really couldn’t get enough of that sad, depressed and overworked retail employee I related to so closely. If it ever did come back, either by you or someone else using your voice on their channel, I would 100% jump on that wagon without question

must admit your comedy, especially on this channel, really gets to me. I remember early on when i first discovered grandlinereview i thought the channel was like some really boring corporate channel without a personality, but i must admit i was really wrong and your personality really makes the videos on all three active channels really fun

True, I first discovered GLR 2 years ago and went "that's a boring type of video" because I was offered an old video of him that didn't appeal to me at the time, but now I'm subscribed to all 3 channels and his jokes and pun in all 3 are absolutely the best part about these channels.

Man, I did love team pokemart, but I can also admit that when the vids stopped coming out I didn’t even notice. It’s weird, but you’re right: it didn’t really have too much of a direction besides hitting the nostalgia notes. Still though, those were some great videos

Ah I did enjoy this channel a lot and it appealed so much to my gen 1 focused Pokémon nostalgia. Everything you say makes sense though, and some of these problems I sort of guessed. I'm glad you were able to get GLR bigger and better after making that decision and that you have learned so much to make this channel prosper where team pokemart didn't. I am really enjoying the content over here :) I am also thankful for the teeny amount of script writing experience team pokemart gave me. It was fun to try something completely new, even if it wasn't something that came totally naturally to me.

I really miss Team PokeMart and was wondering what happened to it. I found you for your One Piece content, it being my favorite anime and all, but I really got attached to you, Liam, as a content creator over Team Pokemart, funny enough. I'll miss it dearly, but this explication makes absolute sense. I had a feeling that burnout played a major deal with it disappearing, but I didn't even consider those other aspects as far as TH-cam and the algorithm. Good on ya for keeping your career alive. I'll very happily take One Piece and New World stuff, even though Team PokeMart was my favorite of your channels, though. Keep up the excellent work, thank you for your content, Liam!

I watched grand line review for a long time and when you announced new world review i started watching it mainly becouse it was you who was doing it and it resulted in me picking up a few of the manga you talked about and ended up liking them
Same with team pokemart i wanted to get into pokemon for a long time but honestly couldn't be bothered but bcs it was you who was covering it I decided to give it a watch and I got into pokemon becouse of it so I guess you attracted fans from your channel who wanted to get an idea of what pokemon was
So thanks for that mate, wouldn't really call it a worthless campaign

I think the reason why I keep coming back to this channel is because I’m a creatively driven person, and what you show off in these videos more often than not is your passion for TH-cam video making while also detailing the effort that needs to put into making them. Risks, rewards, failures, algorithms, how to understand growth, etc. It’s strewn all across this channel (or room if you will), and it helps someone like me who occasionally looks at TH-cam and wonders “what if?”

Team Pokemart was my most favourite chanel to watch back then. It was very funny and well written. But after watching this video I am glad you decided to end that, as I wish the best.
You are great content creator and I can just imagine how hard it was to stop developing one channel (shame it had to be that one but I understand why).
It is a shame that making video once a week or even once a month wouldn't be profitable and wouldn't have sense for you as youtuber.

One thing I haven’t seen any Pokémon TH-camrs focus one exclusively is the culture of Pokémon, like all the none game or card products, the events, the real life far reaching cultural aspects it’s been influenced by and in turn influenced itself. I’d love to see a channel like that, there’s also so many cool Pokémon products, I’d like to see someone categorize and break down and show what their is where you can get it what’s going to come out soon or is planned, stuff like that

There's another problem with Team Pokemart that made me unsubscribe from all 3 of your channels. Cross promotion. Yeah, this gave you a bunch of subscribers early on. But then you kept doing it. As someone who was subscribed to all 3 channels, I'd get the Team Pokemart video and the community promotion on Grandline Review and the community promotion on New World Review. Just by being subscribed to your channels I'd get stuck with one video dominating my subscription feed every few days. I had to unsubscribe from all 3 channels in order to find the videos I'd missed in the regular floods you sent my way.

  • @jaynajuly2140
    @jaynajuly2140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The reason why I never followed Team Pokemart unlike your other channels was due to the character you played, which just wasn't what I was looking for or why I watched your content. It's kind of like how the Nostalgia Critic played multiple different characters (That Guy with the glasses, the Bum, and Dominic the bartender) but I never watched his other vids besides the Bum. Doing a character is going to be hit or miss, especially the less authentic they appear in comparison to your other content. Just my thoughts!

  • @TheOnlyFP
    @TheOnlyFP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I know it's already been said but the EXTREMLY aggressive cross promotion really ruined the channel for me and by extension soured your other channels as all I could hear was "Hey give me more number so I can make $$" even when it wasn't the intention of it. All you made on all you channels came followed with a thought of "That's probably just the TH-cam flavor of the mount for maximum profit" after the cross promotion became too much.
It made me especially sad because I genuinely enjoyed your Black Clover review as it was going on and even as I start watching videos from this channel I have the bitter taste in my mouth from all that channel advertisement.
That said I feel like there is a valuable lesson in the cross promotion in the way of "Your audience isn't here for advertisement, they are here for the content". If a Netflix show started with the same 1 Minute add every time I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't care to watch any of it anymore either.
On all the negativity I do have to add that your YT content quality has risen every single time and it's a joy to see and I think you have a bright future ahead of you as a creator.

I remember when you first asked everyone if you should make the channel in an update, and I remember myself thinking and commenting (as a big Pokemon fan) that it wasn't really a good idea because not only is it an oversaturated market, but also an incredibly stagnant one as well. I found that loads of Poketubers have resorted to making the most ridiculous types of top 10 lists like "Top 10 Pokemon that ruined my childhood", or something like that because there are 1000's of "Top 10 strongest Pokemon" lists already. Like yes, Pokemon is big and has a lot of stuff to work with, but because there are so many fans of the series, there is so much already covered, and you really have to get something fresh to bring to the table in order to break through view-wise. A very broad information channel with some comedic quips would definitely be the wrong approach.

Team Pokemart was a fun channel! I started to get suspicions that you bit off more than you could chew when the upload schedules among the three channels seemed...disproportionate for a time. Surprisingly saw one more upload some time later but after a month or two past that I was like "Yeah I think he's leaving this one behind."

I was watching Team Pokemart when it started, saw a few videos then was never recommended a video after that. I assumed you stopped making videos for that channel. Looking at it now there are several so I think the algorithm just never told me. I rely heavily on the the YT front page to recommend videos to me from the channels I am subscribed to because I don't have time to check the like hundred+ channels I'm sub'ed to for new videos. Had they shown up on my page I definitely would have watched them just as a fan of your content. (I am also 30 and a fan of the same series as you, so I am the demographic you described lol)

I remember when you started that channel. I think it speaks to your integrity and honesty that you realized you messed up with that Pokémon-themed channel.
One thing I would say was a big issue with that channel, from what I saw, was the pre-existing audience you tapped into. It seems most of your audience actually didn’t care about Pokémon that much, if at all, and it showed in the comments you got on community posts related to that channel.

Take it from me, a random youtube commenmter, that Pokemon is a hard thing to stand out in the croud in, finding a niche is super hard, and the general community is a toxic fire landfill...
Doing the anime is an idea with over 1000 episodes 8 seasons and currently the most popular the anime has been in a while. But belive it from me if you think Toei is hard on it's copyright stike (which it is) Pokemon footage gets channels deleted far quicker because of a company called ShoPro, and you probably haven't heard this because all the Anime focus channels are super small and most likely deleted so it never trends outside it's bouble.

I'm not particularly interested in getting into doing TH-cam or anything, but it's awesome to hear about the thought process and marketing strategies that go into making TH-cam channels and content. I don't know why, but I find it very entertaining! I also enjoy the added perspective on the history of GLR and NWR! Going back and watching some of your video series in a binge recently was fun, and I did notice differences as they got more recent, in spite of the overall consistency. I'd been keeping an eye out for new Team Pokemart videos for a while, but ultimately assumed (rightly so) that it had died.
But perhaps it had a niche, albeit a small one, for I, too, am a 30-something who grew up on Gen1, and loves Pokemon, albeit not to the devoted level of those who main the Pokemon TH-cam Sphere.
But, it was enjoyable while it lasted, but if it was truly such a mistake (and clearly it was), definitely better to have cut it off.
(And I actually pondered on that, even with prepared assets, and limited animation, I thought it likely took a lot more effort than an average Grand Line Review video)

I'll be honest, I completely forgot that channel existed. I was hyped for it too as I love Pokemon and you are one of my favourite TH-camrs, so it was a win win.
I just never really cared for the pokedex thing. I knew all the Pokemon so it really didn't offer me much even if I enjoyed the production value. Though even thinking about it now, I can't think what I would want from you regarding Pokemon, it's just such a different beast than One Piece. I suppose I'd have enjoyed you delving into some of the game lore or even the anime but I just feel despite being a bigger franchise as a whole there is less of a world to really bite into as it's split over soo many different mediums.

The biggest mistake you made was the one most new TH-camrs make: You invited people who didn't care. It's like inviting your friends to subscribe to your 0 subs channel, get 500 subs right away, then have none of them watch your videos, killing the algorithm. You probably invited those 10k people and only 200 of them really cared about the content. They just followed your channel cuz they like you or wanted to support you.

I wondered what happened with TP.
Nice to get a peek behind the curtain and into the meticulous mind of a content creator.
I did enjoy the content there even though I'm not the biggest pokemon fan. The idea was great and they were fun videos, I'm just far more of a OP fan than any of the others. But it is good to branch out and try new things.

loved this explanation. I had been wondering for so long what happened to that channel. But good on you for being able to let it go! It was def a fun ride while it lasted and I look forward to all your other works!

This makes me wonder if I could get more audience with a target audience... but I have no idea what that would be for us.
    - Maybe a video on defining your target audience? 🙂

it is astounding how much of a tryhard (not meaning it negative lol) you are in researching and thinking about your stuff
sorry, no native englando, but germando.
imo your OP videos seem to be created in a breeze for you and you just know what your are doing content wise and are just gifted.
the fact that your videos appear very laid back and chill in the process, eventho there is alot of work put into crafting them is what makes them appealing and professional.
ez to digest but passion behind the process is the key

You know, I always wondered why you stopped uploading to that channel. I must say, I’m a bit disappointed considering how excited I was when I found out one of my favorite One Piece TH-camrs was also covering another love of mine: pokemon. I personally enjoyed your humor and your delivery and I was curious to see where that channel would go. Don’t worry, Liam, I completely understand WHY you did it… I’m just sad to know that they’ll never be anymore Team Pokemart. =[

To think you actually got into TH-cam through Pokémon then One Piece but I wasn’t interested in any video of yours until Hunter x Hunter (which you single-handedly made me become a huge fan of.)

I'm not sure if this was a direct response to my recent comment, but it feels like it was. Either way I appreciate the update. I personally enjoyed every video from TPM, however I do understand one man can only do so much. Keep up the great work👍🏾

I'm sorry liam but on your one piece video u had already 2k comments so i m going to post a one piece comment here, hope u don t mind and maybe u'll read it and who knows maybe make something out of it (**if so dont forget to give meee credit XD) so here it is: fun facts: elbaf spelled backward is FABLE and if u spell it as 2 words it's EL BAF which in spanish, or a dialect of spanish means "RESPIRATION". so maybe we'll take a BREATH OF AIR on Elbaf with the strawhat pirates getting to know some FABLES that maybe illustrate some void century history or because of the whole ANIMAL thing that fables have to do with, maybe we'll get to know something about KAIDO because he's the CAPTAIN of the beast pirates. I really hope Liam sees this. WHAT I LL SAY is not legit enough (I THINK) BUT!! If u pronounce Elbaf with a japanese accent u get ERBAFU. If u go to japanese and translate ER BAFU u get THE IMAGE LOVER(at least when u translate from japanese to romanian) so that i guess could be a referance to FABLES because they LOVE to showcase something through IMAGES. also BAFU when translated from Japanese to Romanian says OX SKIN so i guess we either get something about the unknown SHIMOTSUKI USHIMARU or we get something about ??Kaido back story?? because he kinda looks like an ox to me but anyway :).I hope u enjoyed my crazy logic. I say it again: sorry if i m a nuisance by doing this
