In an interview after the race Hobbs said, “I’m not proud of myself in how I got the win, but I am proud that I got a win and a PR.” But dang he looked like he could have run a full second faster, no problem.
The American 800m runners are not the greatest. With 1:44 speed and his strength he could qualify, especially if he hasn't done any speed work yet and he trains with an 800m runner. He could be this generations Peter Snell.
@@CoRascal i know they will but the last runner to win anything no longer competes (Donovan where are you?). Although Hoppel is looking great right now.
The disappointing thing is the low turn out, the Olympics games in LA is 4 years away.same day night of the 10,000 in the UK London the crowd is packed.
I wouldn’t expect the entire country to drive or fly say from New York to LA for these reasons. Growing up there I found the USC area the most depressing once that part of LA became run down. Still is. I would myself prefer this meet held at UCLA that’s my advice. Plus England is so small compared to USA THE ENTIRE state of California is far more populated thus why they would fill a stadium as nearly all comers can make it without due stress financial or otherwise.
Agreed. He needs a reservoir of speed for the U.S. Trials and Olympics (if he earns a berth) to overcome getting boxed in and having no choice but to go wide on a turn. Hobbs, Cole Hocker, and Gordie Beamish have seriously good kicks.
@@repsaknivek unfortunately he would be dqd in any championships for barging through, his fault for getting boxed, but do like him as a runner, and sad to see him knocked off track in Eugene
in ideal conditions without all the tactical nonsense he’s in 1:44 shape right now. biggest talent since webb - fingers crossed but hopefully there are olympic medals in his future!!
I would say 1:43.9 is not out of the realm of possibility. Not only was he not completely spent afterwards, but he also ran in lanes 2&3 for the first 600 meters. That was fun to watch.
he can be disqualified. Although he won, still it was a bad move to allow himself to be boxed in. This is ok for a "local race" but for an international race (world championship, Olympics or European circuit) he would be fried.
kessler is an opportunistic runner, he was lucky Tona is a very professional runner. But to really sneak in like that is not very professional and down right dirty. If they had advertised tickets before 10 days out and entries except Sydney more than 2 days out it would have been helpful. Typical @usatf BS.

For all the effort, it would have been nice if USATF had tried to publicize this. They seem to have no clue how to attract a crowd.

Hobbs had a whole-nother gear that no one had.
How do they show the B 800 but not the A? Must do better!
Wow, I am very impressed by Hobbs.Great tune up for upcoming miles
Great job Hobbs! So many great runs still to come from him this year!
Spent half of the race at the back, and deep in 4th place in the last 100. Crazy.
But actually he DID make that look easy
he was so boxed in

Well done
Any videos of the A race?
Hobbs is crazy talented but some of his tactical decisions worry me 😅 hope he stays safe and out of trouble during the trials!!

There was a long conversation on the field about whether to DQ him.
Where can I find A group?
800 metres has become competitive
Zach Shinnick? I haven’t heard that name in years…
Big up Basingstoke 💪💪
Where is the video for Section A?!!!!
Looked like a DQ in a Championship meet.
Ok thanks for the video but what were the times?
Typical track and field activities. People don’t know how to run the sport
Just watch the full video and you will see
2:44 better keep lopez miles away from any swimming pool then
Announcer got jokes
not the "yeah" instrumental noooo
Hobbs can run sub 1:44 if he gets into a better position
Felicidades a J.T. López, muy buena carrera. Kessler pudo ser descalificado facilmente, muy arriesgado (y estúpido)
Pero gano
Hobbs could have went faster if on the outside….. Excellent job though 😃👍🏃♂️. Big Congrats

He's getting DQ'ed in a championship race. The first pass was borderline. The second, on Lopez, was interference.

Kessler should be DQ. There was hardly any space to run into.
Lol ok
Everyone else should be dq'd due to obstruction
I agree. In an Olympics or World Championship, he would have been disqualified.
Kessler smoked those fools. EASILY
