  • Have you ever heard of places like Syktyvkar, Ukhta, Vorkuta?
    That's the KOMI REPUBLIC FOR YOU!
    This is a new episode of the series "The minorities of Russia": not just minority ethnicities, but languages as well - and for today, we have two main missions: the first is to go and look for Komi speakers, an ethnic group of northern Russia with its own identity and language. The second one, is to go and look for one of the weirdest Lenin heads you could ever imagine to see in Russia!
    I also took the chance to cross one extra Russian federal subject off my list!
    In my quest to set foot in every single federal subject in Russia, the Komi Republic was number 33! Don't forget to follow me on Instagram for live updates @davelegenda 📷
    Also if you can subscribe and please like this video that would help very much CHEERS THANK YOU :D

    I was born in Syktyvkar and lived there until 18 years old and have mad respect for anyone who is excited about such undiscovered parts of Russia and local people. Really loved your video, if you ever would like to have a chat in Saint-Petersburg and learn more about Komi republic or Saint-Petersburg - I’m here for you :)

    I'm from Ukhta, and to say honestly, Ukhta is not really a Komi city, it was built as a soviet (thus international) industrial town, I din't really know people who spoke Komi well during my time there. To find some good Komi speakers you have to go to rural areas on the south of the republic.

    I'm fascinated by the fact the word for "hello" in Komi is "chalom," pronounced "SHAH-LOM'" or "TSHA-LOM'."which of course sounds the same as the Hebrew word often used for "hello" and "goodbye," "shalom." Any thoughts on that?

    • @xxBitchutecom
      @xxBitchutecom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      "Ch" in word чолӧм (cholӧm) sounds as "ch" in word "cheese", but yes it still have strange coincidence. What I notice English words "child" and "name" ("nomen" in Latin) similar with words челядь (chel'ad') - child and ним (nim) - name. In Russian that words sound very different, but Komi did not have other indo-european language speekers around. Where we could borrow it.
      I heard that there was some trade connection with East. For example word нянь (n'an') - bread have Persian roots.

      Just fun fact in our Udora dialect we have word сiэста (siesta) - "they" that sound exacly like Spanish "siesta".
      PS: synonim of "siesta" is наэста (naэsta), which is найӧ (nayӧ) in offical dialect of Komi. Сiэста (siesta) comes from Udora word сiя (siya) - he/she, which is сiйӧ (siyӧ) in offical dialect of Komi.
      Also there is Udora word таэста (taеsta) - these. Comes from word тая (таya) - this, which is тайӧ (таyӧ) - this, these in offical dialect of Komi.
      Sometimes we use both offical and regional words, depends on context, mood and so on.

    I don't want to argue about mutual understanding between dialects, but one of the most unique dialects is Udorsky (they were isolated for many years after fleeing north from Christianization) and Izhma. My friends are from Udora and they easily talked to the guys from Izhma district. I easily talked to a guy from the Sysolsky district, although it is very far away.
    Once I met a guy from the Ust-Kulomsky district and he spoke very strangely, all the accents in the words were in the wrong places, it sounded crazy and I did not understand what he talked, it's didn't sound as Komi (I think it's rare thing), but I also saw a girl in internet from the Ust-Kulomsky district and she spoke with the same pronunciation as we did in the Udorsky district. PS: and of cause we have some different words, but I can't said how many not understandable words there is.
