    I still love the looks of the vintage speakers compared to newer ones . The cabinets were beautiful to look at. My newer towers are black. They look good but compared to the ones that you show here, they look ordinary. Fantastic work.

    The Pioneer rack is fantastic. A very nice classic Pioneer silver system. Nice attention to detail and I love that the components are all within a few years of production.

      Thank you. I carefully select matching equipment by catalogue. What you've seen is my 1980 collection but I also have full 1976 collection where speakers belong. It's all about details right?

    Great video , I still use my HPM 100"s that I bought in 1979 . I've kept mine in great shape and sound is still awesome with my new Pioneer 7.2 receiver. This video will help me when i finally have to repair my speakers years from now.

      Remember hearing the hpm 100 at audio stores back in the day. Awesome sounding and the hpm tweeters were amazing.
      I believe the original mach one is the most desirable.
      I had Jensen model 6 speakers at that time which were a 4 way with 15" woofers, 8 inch lower midrange, 5" upper midrange and a 1" dome tweeter. Those had great imaging and sound.

      What do you suggest to do with those speakers that have a particle borad and some king of cheap veneer that is on them. Do you suggest building new enclosures.

    • @MartenElectric
      @MartenElectric  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      penta15786 I would only fiddle with them if they with it. What speakers are they? Otherwise you end up wasting your time and money. Try to thing of it when you gonna sell them for some reason or another. I've been doing many expensive projects and people usually don't appreciate it price wise. HPM-100 will stay with me so it was with to fix them. I haven't mention it in the video but midrange driver was also gone. I've bought speakers for £200 and spend another £200 on them

    beautiful !!! I have a pair of HPM-700's , have not done much restoration except for compressing the edges with araldite adhesive , because the previous owner kept them on the floor hence dampening cause little expansion on the down front part of the wood. I havent replaced any wadding as we dont have such places here which provide the quality i need. Will my HPM's sound better if i do acoustic wadding restoration, great job on your HPM's.

    Look really good. I have a pair I got many years ago, I was perusing a stereo shop that also dealt in used/traded equipment when I saw them. I asked how much and they were $65 for the pair! I asked what was wrong with them and he said nothing, then showed me the price guide which said they were worth $50-75. Shit yeah! Nice sounding, had to replace the woofer sup pounds but other wise nice, cranking-ass speakers. Your music has to go btw.

      Audio Tweak.net What should I do about restoring the HPM - 100 badges on the grill? I can't figure out how since none that I find are clean and mint condition. Or are the badges on the grill not worth having on the speaker? Also do you have the file of the restored paper on the back?

    • @jozeppy26
      @jozeppy26 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The badges clean quite easily with any cleaner or soap and a scrub brush. Mine are silver and shiny after using a carpet cleaner hose attachment on them (I was shampooing the grill cloth and just went over the logo with the hose and brush while I was at it).

    Restored or not restored, what would you estimate there value at?

  • @tobias1428
    @tobias1428 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you restore and modify it, do the modifications increase or decrease the value? I've got some JBL L19s on the way to me and i can't decide between keeping them original or modifying to increase the soundquality and their looks.

    • @MartenElectric
      @MartenElectric  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Reviver tothemax I wouldn't modify some very rare pieces, just carefully restore them, but HPM100 are not rare, so sensitive modification is in place. As long as you do it nicely you will increase value for part of the market. Obviously purists will reject it, but for average enthusiast will encrease value for sure.

    • @tobias1428
      @tobias1428 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What difference in sound did you hear after the upgrade ?
    I have a pair of HPM-100's are working great with the Pioneer SA 9500 II amp for 37 years. I think of upgrading the speakers as you did. I just found a pair of HPM-110's are the 200W version I thik at €80. It sounds good, doesn't it ?

    • @MartenElectric
      @MartenElectric  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suggest to do cap upgrade and maybe exchange binding posts at least. I would make all new crossovers if I was doing it again as coils are crap and crossovers are really cramped. Speakers sound more cultivated after upgrade I would say. Really nice and smooth sound. I prefer them to HPM-700 but cant compete with HPM-150 or HPM-1100
