In 1966 I was just out of the service back from Vietnam .. tried college several times only lasted about 3 weeks each time.. I knew I had to get away from my buddies in New Hampshire and go off to college far away.. I went to a small college in Taft Ca then on to San Francisco State 1969-70.. Seeing and hearing Scott McKenzie's song... brings back those wonderful days... Searching the crowds looking for my face.. at 78 I wonder how many of those young faces are around today.. This is my time capsule it will never change.. for the years have aged my body my mind is as young as it was then.. Peace/love..
I was a hippy back in the day im 66 now wish could get these days back best days of my life i have this song as my ring tone love it rest in peace Scott Mckenzie you are missed xxxx
I'm not an American and I'm not a hippie I'm only 28 years old, but as soon as I hear this song, tears come to my eyes. What soulful songs were sung in the USA during that wonderful era.
That’s so nice of you to say!! Where are you from?? Every generation has soulful, inspirational and beautiful music!! Just search for it!! Something that I think is cute and funny are the old cartoons, like Pink Panther. Also Charlie Brown Christmas Special and their Thanksgiving Special with the story of the Mayflower voyage. And old shows like “Andy Griffith”, with Barney Fife. And “I Love Lucy”, and “My Three Sons”. “Little House on the Prairie” too!! Lots more!! And I love “The Wizard of Oz”. But there are new ones too!! Like “Hidden Figures”….a true story about three intelligent black women who worked for NASA!! I truly loved it!! “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific” have special messages that carry over for our day. Others too!! “The Hunt for Red October” is awesome too, and “Night Crossing” is a great movie!! But where are you from?? I would like to know!! Do you like John Denver?? The Carpenters?? The Beach Boys?? Those were my favorites. And I love to hear the young people sing the oldies. Do you like the Mons Lisa Twins?? And Leonid and Friends? Others too?? Do you like what Elon Musk is doing?? Pretty much a lot of things!!
The hippie movement spread out across the western world at a relatively slow rate ( no internet or social media) taking 10 years to reach the shores of my home country, New Zealand. I was a young teenager at this time and to many of my parents generation it was the scourge of society. Looking back at this era what stands out most to me is how naive we all were. Where has all the peace, love and gentle people gone? War raging in Eastern Europe, rampant racism, growing inequalities and possibly the most repugnant human imaginable, Donald Trump, looked upon by millions as the saviour of Western values, both in the US and abroad.
My whole family is settled in San Francisco despite the fact that I grew up in Washington State and now in Florida. Everytime I hear this song, I remember my family there and how they struggled to make a better life there. Beautiful song.
San Francisco is a place where you can dress٫ act٫ and be however you want٫ and you will be loved and accepted no matter what. i cried watching this٫ ive made it my life goal to live there one day❤🌁
This is what I remember from my childhood ‘pure nature natural girls, especially NATURAL MUSIC 🌻🎸💞.... ...and it was probably the most wonderful time when I got my first wonderful kiss from the most wonderful girl for me! ❤🔥And this memory connects me with this song for the rest of my life. ❤🔥💋 Thank`s for sharing my Dear 🫂
Música marcante e emocionante na minha juventude escutei muito em aniversários, praças, e ate no ônibus qto era tocada no som ate hoje me toca em muio na alma amo essa música que nao sei explicar
In 1964 the San Francisco so “beautiful & proud” & hippie free spirit place. & 30 years later here full of homeless just as Los downtown China Town. In April 20 of 2020 a Dem group gave 4 trillion dollars “American hard worked tax paid money “to Vietnam communist government. It's very hard to understand why? Well, they must forget grandma said “We have to take of our self-first before being generous. " If you're going to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair If you're going to San Francisco You're gonna meet some gentle people there For those who come to San Francisco Summertime will be a love-in there In the streets of San Francisco Gentle people with flowers in their hair All across the nation Such a strange vibration People in motion There's a whole generation With a new explanation People in motion People in motion For those who come to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair If you come to San Francisco Summertime will be a love-in there
This song by Momas and Papas songster John Phillips (playing a sitar - listen carefully) was actually written as a promo for the historic Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Sadly the song was demonized for attracting the "wrong element" to the city. That has never made sense to me as San Francisco has always been no different than any other American city - in fact even with its present myriad of social ills it remains a very much beloved destination around the world. I relocated here three years ago (sans flowers, btw) and I would live nowhere else. Curiously, I have since tried to send this beautiful love song to a friend who lives in Russia, however she says the song is banned on their social media platforms. 😢
Quelle merveilleuse surprise !
To the tune of 🎶San Francisco🎶 ( by Scott McKenzie ) : "If it ever snowws in San Franciscoh, you can be sure to find me chil'n onn the soothing shores of Madagascaar. But as you can see todayy, Freddy beat me to the island paraadise with 180 kilometer winnds and destroyed all my dreams of any tyype of getawayy from this dastarrdly Climate Chaaange that got to my last precious haavenn, at Mad-at-gas-caaarr⛽🚘🚘..🚘💨💨🎴💨" ..
The hippy movement was about having peace, making love not war and the young men wore their hair longer than women so you could not tell what sex they were until they turned around and sometimes got a surprise. It was the days of love and there was no rainbow shit and gender confusion back then. There weren’t piles of abortion clinics because we had The Pill and used responsible contraception. Children who were accidents were called a Love Child and were very much that. Loved. Ahhh the days of flares and trying to live a simple life. People were creative and the music was real not of the spoken shouting you call rap. There was melody and healing through the soul of the music and African Americans were their own self didn’t try to be white people. They wore their Afro proudly as only an African can. The women didn’t bounce their arses around looking cheap and had some dignity. Many of the children had real dads. I’m sure there were still gangs but not like it is today and there were still drugs too but they weren’t fortified versions they compounded with washing powder and God only knows what else. And people didn’t shit in the streets unless it was a goddam accident. And our version of cars you could at least hear them coming but there was no mobile phones then preoccupying us when we crossed the road. We would have to stand in a box insert coins and dial a rotary fixed phone to speak to someone. And you would get up early and stand in a line to use that phone to call for a job interview. In my case the wages for that job were several dollars less than the unemployment benefits but you had a job and a work ethic. A chocolate bar cost 10 cents back then so your little money went further. While I admit some of todays music is very good in my day they used to sing without pre recording and syncing it. It was real and raw. And you didn’t have to mortgage your home-to go to a concert. For all of you who weren’t born back then at least you can still embrace the music. They were real days and that was what it was like. It’s so long ago there will never be another time like it. I’m so lucky to have the memories. I must get up with my Zimmer frame now and maybe go play my records.😊

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there
For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair
All across the nation
Such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation
With a new explanation
People in motion
People in motion
For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
Life's good 😍
Esta es música que no pasará de ser bellísima en la eternidad , solo para gente con mucha altura cultural .
