    Le Cellier ruined the end of our last Epcot day. We had a reservation (months in advance) for 8:30pm - which was late so we were holding out on eating already before we arrived. They informed us that they were seating reservations 45 minutes AFTER the scheduled time because tables were not available. You know, people lingering. We were really hungry at this point and were unable to book a new reservation ANYWHERE ELSE in the park because it would overlap with our Le Cellier reservation. We ended up canceling and having to grab a quick service elsewhere. Would be nice if they didn’t pack those restaurants to the point that they can’t seat reserved guests!

      Aaron Rollins I was seated 45 minutes late at Sana’s and ended up missing my fast pass for Flight of Passage the year it was opened. I was pissed.

      @kimmccarthy7747 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's the downside of wanting full meals at the parks. If you have a fast pass coming, perhaps a person shouldn't book a meal reservation ahead of it?

    Woody’s Lunchbox is one of my favorite places to eat at Disney, I wish I was there now! However the seating is so inconvenient and you really can’t find a spot easily at lunchtime.

    • @MattU4970
      @MattU4970 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. You have to "shark" people eating there. By this I mean watch them, and when they get up to leave, be right there to grab the table, otherwise someone else will. We lucked out and got the table in the shade right next to the pole that has two fans on it.

    • @sjt5059
      @sjt5059 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      NC-Dad Oh yes that’s unfortunately what we had to do even when it wasn’t peak lunch time. Plus, when you’re done eating you can’t rest for a bit before getting up cause there’s people waiting for tables. I mean technically you can, but I’d feel bad.

  • @roxaneerickson6208

    Couldn't agree with you more about the seating. If I wanted to dine with "Jim & Nancy" I would have gone with them. So many restaurants are doing this kind of seating & I always ask for a regular table or booth. Thanks for another great video.

    Food is our lowest priority when in the parks. The inconsistency, noise and crowds don’t match the money expended. It would be awesome if you had an experience that was truly memorable, but otherwise we try to focus on what we can’t do anywhere else but in the parks!

    I don't see how Tiffins having a more niche menu is a drawback - I love me some chicken nuggets but it's good that there is some truly adventurous food available in WDW - and bear in mind that food culture varies across the world, and for many international visitors it is really not as exotic as Americans think. Octopus and whole fish are common foods elsewhere in the world. Disney has plenty of places catering for picky eaters already, I would hate for Tiffins to water things down and become less unique.

    • @PSPSMITH2022
      @PSPSMITH2022 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think DFB is quite clear that restaurants with less-traditionally-American menu items are only drawbacks IF a person has picky, more-traditionally-American kid menu expectations. Some examples of ideal menu items for me (an American) would be prime rib, pho, fry jacks, mee goreng, beignets, falafel, vepr-knedlo-zelo, bratwurst, piri piri chicken, pan de sal, arroz caldo, svickova na smetane, Kansas City ribs, sinigang na baboy, fried chicken, pancit bihon, segedinsky gulas, seafood gumbo, egusi, mapo tofu, New England clam chowder, feijoada, chimmichurri steak, lumpia Shanghai, bryndzove halusky, biscuits and gravy, etc. (Note: most of these aren't currently offered at Disney World.) Not all Americans think octopus or whole fish are niche, but the DFB channel seems to have a general perspective of "normal" food for most kids being chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and hamburgers. Nothing wrong with opinions and personal recommendations coming from that perspective, as DFB is the one creating this content and can have whatever opinions and perspectives they want, but I believe they do a decent job at indicating that these are personal opinions, every family and family member has individual tastes that may differ, etc. While I agree completely that Tiffins should not be watered down to match macaroni and cheese expectations, I think it's valuable for parents of picky eaters (or picky eater adults) to know that they won't find those more traditional/basic "American" offerings in Tiffins.

    • @newcamomile
      @newcamomile 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PSPSMITH2022 but many people travel to WDW without kids, and many people with kids visit who are not American/don't just eat mac and cheese etc. Nothing against mac and cheese! But it's a bit sad to me that serving interesting food is seen as a drawback just because it's not for everyone - the cast interaction of the 50s Diner is equally not for everyone yet I don't see that mentioned. But then again, I don't think Chef Mickeys is anywhere close to being awesome at all...

    We loved the Coral Reef menu when we went Oct 2018. Coming from where we live in the UK many of the fish options aren’t always available to us at home, so this really drew us in and we loved it. Loved the bisque and chowder && really love mahi mahi - hard to find in the UK. We had a good time that evening 🐠

  • @RaptorsCantSwim

    An attest to how inconsistent some restaurants can be, I have, multiple times had the experience of being in a restaurant with multiple peoples and about half of us is having a fantastic time, one is having an ok time and the rest is having a bad time. Literally, one time my husband and I were dining together, ordering the same thing, his was good mine was not... that's some major inconsistency right there. But it happens.

      I think they want to accommodate as many people as possible because so many people want to eat at these places too. If you're not staying on property or you don't book 180 days out from your trip you are really out of luck in a lot of cases. I booked my trip 135 days out and couldn't get dinner or lunch at any of the places where I really wanted to eat even though I'm staying on property. It's so disappointing to be going to my favorite place on earth and spending the money to stay on property and still not be able to eat where I want :(

    7:36 Perhaps the reason why San Angel Inn gets dinged on the food is because we've become accustomed to Mexican cuisine being working stiff's food rather than haute cuisine, as evidenced by the adage The More Dangerous The Neighborhood, The Better The Tacos. I've been to some upscale Mexican places, three of which all have branches in the same general neighborhood of the city near where I live, but the place I keep going back to is a hole-in-the-ground that's less refined.

    You are spot on about San Angel Inn - incredible atmosphere, but inconsistent food and service. We usually eat there for lunch, request a table by the pyramid and just get appetizers and salads. We got an order of guac (served with chicharrones - I'm low carb), Queso Fundido and Ensalada con Pollo Asado (goat cheese, mango and pepitas salad topped with grilled chicken!) when we were there last week and had a great time.

    Garden Grill is good if you have older kids who want to meet the characters. On our last trip, I was 17 and my sister was 13. We got maybe one minute tops with the characters at Chef Mickey and they stayed at other tables with little kids way longer. Which is fine, but at Garden Grill we had like 10 minutes with each character and they came around more than once.

One of our favorites was your Disneyland video for Galaxy’s Edge where you showed us all the rides, attractions, shopping, and food available in the area, and helped with a plan of attack when visiting. Could you please do more videos like that of the other areas in Disney? Tomorrowland? Pandora? Toy Story Land? Etc? We planned a last minute trip last summer and the only place we could get a meal was the Crystal Palace. I was 100% impressed! I loved the food, my daughter loved the kid food (I had a few bites and enjoyed it as well). I don't like sweets but my husband and daughter loved the desserts there as well. They had a SUPER cute parade around the restaurant with all the characters and they let kids join in and my daughter LOVED that. She was right behind Piglet. We were there an hour but still hadn't seen Pooh (he had just been to our table right before we were seated). My daughter had a hair appointment that we had to leave for and she was super sad she wasn't going to see Pooh as he was still on the other side. Our server brought us over to Pooh and he stopped visiting the tables just to say hi to her and take pictures. I was blown away. We had such a good time at Disney that we are planning another trip this summer! Already have our reservations for Topolino Terrace! If DFB thinks that Crystal Palace was just ok (and I loved it), I can't wait to try something they love!

    My husband and I had the best all-around service at Chef Mickey’s. Pluto came around and wanted a hug. I told him I was too old, but I hugged him and told him he was a very good boy. A CM overheard me say that and she brought us pins saying we were celebrating being big kids, and two cupcakes with pixie dust from Tinkerbell, as well as two light up clips with Tinkerbell and Buzz Lightyear. The manager came around and profusely apologized for a minor inconvenience we had and didn’t mention to anyone. My husband loved the food. I thought it was just ok. Anyway, I tweeted a cast compliment at WDW Today telling them about Micaela, who is the most adorable hostess who went out of her way for us. I wouldn’t have known to do that without your videos!

    This was a GREAT video AJ! One of the advantages of owning a timeshare off-Disney property is that there are plenty of other options for excellent dining. The buffet at Crystal Palace (at least for lunch) has always had enough variety for our picky eaters. They have a kid's buffet too. I would eat there without the characters (but maybe not for that price).

All have good food and a great atmosphere. And you can't beat O'hana's.

    Another vote for not liking banquet seating!
    Having had one horrible experience at Ohana, I wouldn't go back.
    When I ate at Tiffins I had a wonderful experience. I had a 6 p.m. seating and the restaurant was nearly empty. So great service, lots of quiet time for my meal.
    Love this video!

    I'll let you in on a little secret about Crystal Palace...back in my WDW entertainment days, it was often referred to backstage as Crystal Prison. You have 4 very popular characters who all have poor vision in a big open area with a not so obvious path they have to follow throughout the restaurant, and it all looks the same. My first time working very closely with Pooh Bear, I nearly had a panic attack!

    I really cannot justify going to any restaurant in the Mexico pavilion with their high prices for the portion sizes and what is offered. This is especially off-putting when you know that there are fantastic and amazing Mexican options right outside the Disney gates in Orlando and Kissimmee.

    Definitely agree about being on top of your neighbor anywhere when you eat. It makes me super uncomfortable and unfortunately most restaurants in WDW are packed with tables. I will deal with it if it means I get the experiences of meeting characters or getting certain things. I really love any quick service that has an upstairs where you can hide away for a bit- love having that little break from all the people!

    It is very refreshing to hear honest reviews of some of these restaurants. You were spot on with Crystal Palace. The character experience and the location are amazing, but have never had a great meal there. My local Ryan's has a better buffet. San Angel Inn, the theming and ambiance is great, but the fool is less than good, bordering on bad. Woody's lunchbox, great food, excellent theming, no seats, and no escape from the flaming ball in the sky. Keep up the good work. Your credibility and honesty are unmatched.

      It's too bad that so many Disney foods are "blanded down" to supposedly be more approachable. I wish Disney would instead have "regional dish cafeterias", where guests can pay a nominal fee per "sample" (say, one USD each, so $15 for a plate of 15 samples of their choosing) to try various dishes from around the world in their unaltered, true to tradition flavorings. If a person finds something they really enjoy, they can pay for a full serving of that dish. This way, people don't have to feel like they need to take out a second mortgage on the house in order to be culinarily adventurous at Disney World, and won't end up feeling like they massively overpaid for something that they didn't actually like, or get a "dumbed down" version that isn't actually representative of the true dish at all. I'm all for authenticity and adventure, and believe a restaurant like this would help more people discover why these dishes have endured in their respective regions over the centuries.

    • @newcamomile
      @newcamomile 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PSPSMITH2022 more regional food would be great especially in the Epcot pavilions. Chinese-American standards only in the China pavilion is ridiculous given how much attention regional Chinese cuisine has got in recent years. It could do with a real HK style dim sum place too.

    • @PSPSMITH2022
      @PSPSMITH2022 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newcamomile Agreed. The fact that I can find more authentic food outside the EPCOT World Showcase is a bit sad, and it's simply embarrassing that this superior food can be found within a reasonably-short driving distance from the park, for a fraction of the price. I don't mind paying a reasonable surcharge for the convenience of eating inside the park (we usually eat at least one meal in the park every day we spend in Disney World), but some of that overpriced food is not only unauthentic, but downright nasty. I remember getting some "stir fry with rice" from the China quick service stand a while back: micro portions, overcooked vegetables (by about six hours), sickly sweet and massively over-salted sauce, and mush rice. The individual grains of rice were no longer recognizable. It was very bad to say the least. If EPCOT is truly going to all the trouble of offering internships for students from those specific countries in the World Showcase, they should at least go to the trouble of actually offering authentic meals at high quality standards.

    If you're a super foodie or don't mind spending a little more on food Tiffins is good. Some of the portions were small but some, like the entrees, were decent sized. It was mainly the appetizers that were more like small plates. They have some really delicious food, but I would agree that it's more of a special occasion place.

      Yelp is pretty nice with that actually. Just set the location for the hotel you'll be at and it will pull up Disney restaurants. You can filter the reviews to show recent ones first. It's how I'm planning where we'll be eating. Since it is hard to get an actual read on any of their restaurants. Having a long list of reviews from other guests really helps out a lot.
