The Viva Forever video always got to me as a teenager and still does. It's talking about loss - loss of childhood, loss of friendship - grief. It's a beautiful song which doesn't get enough recognition. 👍🏻
Emma’s high, sweet voice and Melanie B’s deeper, warm voice was such an underrated and underused pairing. They sang the chorus on “Viva Forever”, and they really made that song. Emma’s voice was the most used on that song, IIRC. They even layered her vocals with some of Mel C’s parts, which I didn’t know until someone isolated their vocals on here.
More Spice Girls songs: - 2 Become 1 - Too Much - Say You'll Be There - Spice Up Your Life Geri songs: - Look at Me - Bag It Up - Mi Chico Latino - Calling Emma songs: - What Took You So Long? - Take My Breath Away - Maybe - Free Me Mel C songs: - I Turn to You - Never Be the Same Again - On the Horizon - Northern Star Mel B songs: - Feels So Good - Tell Me - I Want You Back Victoria songs: - Not Such an Innocent Girl - Let Your Head Go - This Groove - A Mind of Its Own
You started with “Holler”, a point in time where they had lost their identity, an important member of the group had left, and were trying to fit in the Y2K american aesthetics and a market at the time dominated by TLC and Destiny’s Child; and you ended with one of their biggest anthems “Who Do You Think You Are”, the girls in all of their glory dominating the 90’s world with unique personalities and style.
"2 become 1" and "Say You'll Be There" are my favorite by them. And I absolutely love Mel C solo career with songs like "Never Be The Same Again" and "Northern Star".
It seems kind of easy to underestimate the Spice Girls but oh, dont forget they became a phenomenon cuz of THE MUSIC! Not just on their brilliant debut album but just about all of their catalog really is first-rate pop music. Yes, they all have nicknames and individual personalities but as a group THEY ROCKED!! Without THE SONGS they'd be nothing....
Loved this! Holler is a bop and Viva Forever is amazing! Easy to forget how good the Spice Girls were!! You should definitely check out the Brit Awards performance of who do you think you are 🙂
Re- Holler - I LOVE that late 90s / early 00s Darkchild production - the pinnacle for me - Brandy’s Full Moon! There’s another track on Forever which has that sound “Wasting my time” - slaps hard!
Viva Forever was the last single to feature Geri (Ginger Spice), before she unexpectingly left the group. The music video took 5 months to shoot, and was already in production before she left. It's hard to spot, but apparently the fairy version of Geri doesn't fly out of the vending machine at the end, signalling the "loss" of someone, which of course happened to be a coincidence when Geri actually did leave. The video is about the loss of youth and innocence (or a friend for some), but for others it kinda seen as a farewell to Geri and the end of the Spice Girls as we knew 'em. Later that year, the girls followed up the song with a new standalone single called "Goodbye", written about Geri's departure. In preparation for their 2019 tour, all 13 Spice Girls music videos were remastered into 4K, but for some reason 3 of the videos had slight alterations. The original version of Viva Forever doesn't feature the lost boy as a fairy at the very end, it only shows the Spice Girls flying away. I personally think the original is better, because it makes you think of what happened to the boy, rather than "Oh, he's a fairy now". In case you're curious, here's a potato-quality version of the original: vimeo.com/251814282 EDIT: Fixed link.
Oh, Viva Forever. It is such a beautiful sad song. I was obsessed with it back then. There are more layers to the song in the full version. There is also a remixed version that is really good too and makes more emphasis on Mel B's low singing part.
Ive been a huge fan of The Spice girls since day one...thanks for reacting to them. You have managed to pick 4 songs that show exactly how broad their songs were. Hoping that you decide to do more
Oh babe, you know you gotta do a part 2. The people require it! (Me, I'm people.) Love how you started with Holler, talk about starting off strong. I love every last one of these songs though. The "Viva Forever" music video however, did scar me as a kid. It creeped me out and made me sad, plus IIRC Geri had just left the group just prior to the release. For Part 2, I'm thinking "Too Much," "Mama," "2 Become 1," and "Spice Up Your Life." "Goodbye" and "Let Love Lead the Way" are good picks too but they're both heavy, slow-paced and emotional and I'd rather you get a mix of sounds.
Would definitely love a part two! Every once in a while I get the urge to listen to ‘Viva Forever’, it’s got such a nice atmosphere. But I can’t even remember the last time I listened to ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, so thank you! Evoking some really nice childhood memories here. Would be interested in your reaction to ‘2 Become 1’. :-) On a wholly unrelated note, I think you reacted to The Police quite some time ago, but haven’t really touched Sting on his own yet. I just love ‘Fortress Around Your Heart’, ‘Fields of Gold’, ‘If You Love Somebody Set Them Free’, ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’, ‘Be Still My Beating Heart’, ‘Desert Rose’… Well, quite a lot of his songs. I grew up listening to Pet Shop Boys and Kate Bush etc. all whom I really love, and Sting was (is) definitely up there too. I’d like to think you’d enjoy his songs too.
Oh god i was 13. I remember the Spice mania in Europe at that time with all the videos on mtv, the dolls, the candies, the polaroid machine…i miss them.
I think that Holler was produced by Dark Child, who also produced Say my Name by Destiny's Child. You can hear him say: _"Dark Child 2000"_ in Holler and _"Dark Child 99"_ y Say my Name. XOXO
Holler will always be the one for me. I ADORE this song and the video is truly iconic. You have to react to P!nk's first three music videos: There You Go, Most Girls and You Make Me Sick. They're from way back in 2000 when she did R&B.
I know you have the wigs for it...so how about doing a part 2 dressed as your fave Spice Girl as a special treat for us once you hit a certain amount of subscribers?
This was a great 1st choice. Also their solo singles/albums are really good and underrated in the states. These are my top pics from their solo projects. Melanie C (Sporty) Ft Left Eye (RIP) - Never Be The Same Again Emma Bunton (Baby) - Maybe Victoria Beckham (Posh) - Let Your Head Go Melanie B (Scary) - Feels So Good Geri Halliwell (Ginger) - Bag It Up And a ton of other bangers.
2 Become 1, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Goodbye and Let Love Lead The Way... all great Spice Girls songs with a great video for each. The fantastic thing about Spice Girls singles/videos is that no 2 are similar, all have a different sound and visual. Would most definitely recommend! Also, the Brit Awards '97 performance of Who Do You Think You Are? is a must watch, genuinely iconic!
I loved this just what I needed! I had forgotten that holler is quite a decent song! I haven't listened to them in a while.i think it'd be good to pop one of their songs on every now and then for a cheer up! Love seeing them together again and the girl power in the vids! Please do the comic relief version of this video when they're joined by some comedians and a singer! Kathy burke-sporty Dawn french-posh Jennifer Saunders-ginger Llewella gideon-scary Lulu-baby.
Tengo 41 años y aun amo a éstas chicas, la mejor banda de pop femenina de todos los tiempos!! Únicas e irrepetibles. Volvi a mis 15 años😅. Gracias por este video ✌️ saludos desde Chile! 🇨🇱
Oh man definitely check out more of the Spice Girls. I love these gems. Mama, Spice Up Your Life, Let love Lead the way, Goodbye. So many good hits. Girl power all the way to the bank
I always loved Holler. I loved the elemental theme in the video. It didn't get a lot of love at the time, but such is life. Who do you think you are also had a comedy version for charity with comediennes in each of the roles too.
What I understand is that the video from Viva Forever was made like that because Geri already had left the groupe at that point. That’s why that song are on my dislike-list of their songs. She said in a documentary around 2007 that she knew while singing that song on a promotion for it that she had to leave the girls. So sad. I was so in love with them. Their music was a hygge part of my childhood. I still listen to it today, but it will never be the same as before Geri left i 1998. My personal favorits includes “Wannabe”, “2 become 1”, “Spice up your life” and many many more!! ❤🔥
Please react to: Geri Halliwell - Look At Me Geri Halliwell - It's Raining Men Geri Halliwell - Mi Chico Latino Emma Bunton - What Took You So Long Emma Bunton - Maybe (HD) Melanie C - On The Horizon Melanie C - Never Be The Same Again
I must admit that I've never seen this video for Who Do You Think You Are before, even though I knew it existed. I'm used to the Comic Relief version with the Sugar Lumps which is basically the same video filmed the same time as this but with different scenes that include the Sugar Lumps [not a real group but a comic version of the Spice Girls themselves] and I don't think Geri is ever seen in the wedding dress. I think it's more scenes of them altogether on stage but same energy throughout but more humourous. 3 weeks at no.1 in the UK in March 1997 as double-a side with Mama.
Random but watching your reaction videos to Take That, Spice Girls etc., made me 'discover' something about myself lol. So this staunch metalhead LOVES her some British 90s pop. Maybe Ive always known that but just refused to acknowledge the fact lol
How have you never heard any of these songs?! Must just be the UK but you hear them all the time over here on radio and TV. I recommend you watch viva forever live from 1998 (Wembley) - it's genius 🙌🏻👍
The Viva Forever video always got to me as a teenager and still does. It's talking about loss - loss of childhood, loss of friendship - grief. It's a beautiful song which doesn't get enough recognition. 👍🏻
Give _Spice World_ the movie a shot, it's genuinely hilarious. I unapologetically dig those early singles - a moment in time, captured.
I don’t care what anyone says. It’s a cinematic masterpiece. Someone coming out of a toilet, alien encounters it’s genius.

Spice Girls were the best thing that happened to pop music, they were unique and never gonna be repeated again, their music was just awesome

He reacted to "Say You'll Be There" already.
Don't forget Geri's version of It's Raining Men
All of this but also Melanie Cs new album singles. High Heels, In and Out Of Love, Who I Am, Blame It On Me, Fearless, Into You
And Melanie C - You will See
@@TheRealSpiceBoy yessssss it was one of the best albums out of any artist , but underrated!
Holler was still an absolute BANGER though.
Yeah I agree “Holler” is a good song but it’s felt un Spice girls-ish, but if they want try new things, their choice.
"2 become 1" and "Say You'll Be There" are my favorite by them. And I absolutely love Mel C solo career with songs like "Never Be The Same Again" and "Northern Star".
Second the Mel C solo songs.
Viva forever is haunting yet beautiful, Mel B really shines 😊
The best girl group ever!!!! Thnks for this reaction!!!! Love it!!! Hugs from Chile 🇨🇱

Wasting my time 👌🏼🔥🔥🔥
It was just the wrong direction for them as a band.

The live version at Wembley 1998, at the very end her and Mel C adlibs. Shivers every time!
How about reacting to Viva Forever Live on Webley Stage. It was truly beautiful
I adore the Spice Girls. Great to be reminded that Posh did have some strong vocal presence on some of these.

You need to look at the ‘97 Brits, with the iconic dresses that the dolls were based on!
Viva forever will always be in my top 5 all time fave songs ❤️ Goodbye is another gem of a song!!!

Also this selection makes me realise how versatile they actually were 90s RnB , sixties girl group , flamenco-tinged ballad and funk disco
