    Thanks for the review. I recently hit a Apex 2019 7 iron and loved it. This weekend (7/16-7/18) the Callaway preowned website had a 25% off sale. I picked up a set (5-PW) like new irons, a like new 4 iron with a graphite shaft and a like new 48 GW-all Apex 19's. Total price $400.00 with my trade in set. Really looking forward to getting these.

    Really strong lofts, 43dg PW, they look great and I want new irons but $260 per iron in oz by the look so expensive. Might go 919 instead.

    As a senior and slow swinger I agree with Mark that loft is your friend. The jacked loft concerns me. To get the high launch you see in these reviews you have to have the speed to put a decent flex in the face and backspin on the ball. Without speed you get lower launch more determined by the static loft.

    I tested these today and liked them. Flew high, long, and straight. I’m a consistent ballstriker but I need the extra distance. I carry the 7 iron about 160-165. I guess I could get a players club and just club up.

    If you're on the fence about these irons, my suggestion is to just get them. That's what I should've done long time ago. I settled on cheaper sets and was never really happy with them until I finally pulled the trigger on these recently. The feel, the sound and the performance is just perfect for me. And it's longer than my game improvement set, wtf?

    Happy New Year Mark and Dan from the other end of the world. Really enjoyed the review and remain grateful for companies that continue to bring forged irons with "player-like" attributes to market for the masses! As a suggestion, could you think about a piece on what actually constitutes a forged iron and what the term "forged" really means? These I assume are forged body with a cup face, while the Ping i500's for example are a cast body with a forged face (I think) - then the Mizuno JPX919 forged is a complete forged iron (again I think and apologies if I'm mistaken). Best wishes for an amazing 2019.

    Spot on! I played hand me down blades from my dad (I believe they were Chi Chi Rodriguez specials) with re-bar for shafts! So, I got used to playing with blades (though my handicap has been between 8-15 most of my playing life). Now that I’m older, have had a couple of hips replaced, I went to CF16s Apex/Apex Pro blended set a number of years back and love them! But, now looking to possibly upgrade to the 2021s…watching this to see how they are…

  • @equipojones
    @equipojones 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Would be great if you guys started comparing launch conditions based on the yardage the club plays rather than the iron number. Who cares that you like your 6 iron to spin at 6,000 RPM if it typically plays 10 yard shorter? You call these low spin power irons, but I'll bet that yard-for-yard they spin nearly identically to you blades with similar peak height, ie, they have the exact same stopping power.
    It’s a small change in how you present the data, but it would give a little more accurate and interesting information.

    A little too chunky and offset for me. I REALLY wish Callaway would use the Hogan APEX FTX DESIGN ( mixed set 8- wedge are blades, 3-7 muscle back, with a BEAUTIFUL thin top line, YET, a PERFECT amount of muscle behind it) these were REALLY distance irons with a blade look , the look was great, forged- fantastic feel. the ONLY change would be to make the offset less- make the offset exactly like last years apex 18's. The camber and bottom were very mizuno mp32 like --with better distance!!!!

    If you strike your irons well, why would you ever want an offset clubs? It's just another obstacle you have to adjust to.
    When I first started playing golf and bought my first set, they were offset. I did not improve until I bought my second set with no offset, then I improved a lot. But it wasn't until I bought a set of the forged TM TP-08 irons, that I became a very good iron player.
    My advice would be start with no offset clubs and they will be learning faster how to hit the ball consistently solid.
    Because your mind and body adapts to whatever you are doing and habits form and today the forged clubs are designed with much more forgiving off-center strikes.

    13:55 @markcrossfield I noticed you talking about getting a flier out of that lie with the 6 iron. Was watching this interesting video that suggested when you move to the longer irons the wet and rough lie produces an effect that actually increases spin creating a "reverse flier" effect that knocks off distance. th-cam.com/video/pgjHmKAUkCc/w-d-xo.html may want to check out and do some testing on this. Would love to see some other thoughts as I have never really even seen this and it was kind of mind-blowing.
