New Tuxmat car mats - Still the best?

  • I installed the new Tuxmat car mats and trunk liner for my Kia EV6. Are they as good, better, or worse than the best car mats I have ever owned, the 2019 Tuxmats for my previous car, the Kia Niro EV? Tuxmat car mats offer the most coverage, the best protection, and an amazing fit. I have owned many cars over the last 30+ years, I have owned a variety of car mats from auto manufacturers as well as aftermarket mats, including Weathertech, but Tuxmat car mats are the best I have ever owned.
    NOTE: Tuxmat ships to the US and Canada, but does not ship elsewhere :-(
    DISCLOSURE: I bought the front and rear Tuxmat car mats at full price, with my own money. I did, however, tell Tuxmat I was going to make another review video and asked for the trunk liner mat and got it for free. Thank you Tuxmat.

      Honestly, I’m glad they weren’t. It’s the only way to ensure some neutrality and objectivity when reviewing. Granted I know he likes that brand already and he bought them for his car, so not completely objective, but he’s more likely to call out stuff when needed if there is an issue. I, for one, appreciate that he bought them himself.

    Once the seat is adjusted, you might consider stuffing a rolled up black towel under the edge of the front seat to prevent water from migrating backwards to the carpet. Multiple drivers would need to be aware and remove the towel, adjust the seat, then replace the towel.

    This is a phenomenal fully inclusive video! I have a set of Tuxmat, so no idea why I watched 95% of this video 😅, but everything you said is spot on.
    Two things I wanted to say were...
    1. The instructions actually give good advice for clip placements, but I appreciate how you did what most (including myself) do by installing the mats with zero regard to the instructions.
    2. Tuxmats are great premium mats, But I've found it best to get another brand's trunk mat for exactly the disadvantes you mentioned. Velcroing a trunk mat in place (on the sides) tends to be more annoying and cumbersome as I store tools in the spare tire well as well.
    But yeah, great video. One of the more conclusive videos I've seen on Tuxmat, if not the only conclusive video I've seen. Phenomenal work!

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Thank you very much for the compliment, and information. You are correct, I did not look at the instructions because this was the 3rd set I had bought, but I should have read them since this is the new version. Interesting idea about the trunk liner. I think the Weathertech one is a place-it-and-forget-it kind of mat, but I have not seen it in person to confirm. Now that I have had mine for quite some time, I suppose an alternate idea for the Tuxmat trunk liner would be to install two 15cm long velcro strips (the plastic spikey part) to the bottom of the liner, one on the left and one on the right, near the rear seat. This would hold the liner in place since it would "stick" to the material of the trunk, but would still allow for the storage underneath. I may actually try this and make a follow up video about the liner retention issue. Thanks again.

The carpets in my car are still like new and the mats are easy to clean. Just pull them out, drop them on the ground and scrub with a brush and some biodegradeable cleaner. Thanks for the video, I put my set in this week and was waiting to see where I should put the clips. For the rear mat needing Velcro for the case, I managed to place the EVSE and ac adapter into the frunk (battery booster too) and not carry the bag. They are items I don't expect to use very often, although I did use the adapter when vacuuming😂 The rear mat looks like it would be great for transporting a dogs with muddy feet 🐶. The plastic hatch edges are protected from scratches from their claws when they jump in. I'm glad they used the Kia anchors this time. I had problems with a broken clip in the Niro EV driver's mat.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  ปีที่แล้ว

      My frunk already has sever things in it so I can't put the V2L and EVSE in it. The velcro strips are still holding on so I am OK for now. Thanks for always watching my videos and for the excellent comments, I appreciate it.

    An update to my comment a month ago. We've had the Tuxmats in our 24 Accord Hybrid for about three weeks (No trunk mat yet. It's out of stock, hopefully soon). We made the decision based on this review. I have experience with WeatherTech mats in my truck and they've been great but for a sedan like the Accord the Tuxmats were the clear choice. The fit is excellent with the use of the clips and the coverage is far beyond WeatherTech. They look great, enhance the cars interior and they actually reduce noise three-four dbs according to the NIOSH app on my phone. Not exactly a laboratory test but i tried to duplicate the same conditions the best I good before and after installing the mats. Thanks again for the review.

Thanks again for the follow up comment and I am glad you were not disappointed 😎

  • @blueskies-l8k
    @blueskies-l8k ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this - haven't completely finished the install on my '23 CX-30 mats, but so far the back seat ones need a bit of work to ensure the front passengerside seat can roll all the way back when needed - obviously the clips will help with that I'm assuming. Also it's winter and I notice that water pools on them, maybe I'm a rookie and it's common knowledge that I'd need to wipe them out or wait for them to dry up. So far, so good for the front mats though.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  ปีที่แล้ว

      Since Tuxmats protect as well as they do, it is normal for water to accumulate. Other mats simply let the water into the car's carpet, which is bad. If you occasionally wipe the water out with a towel, if needed, you will be fine.

    Just got a set for my 2020 Audi A5 Sportback and installed them this evening. The fit was pretty tight, but very accurate. I only had to use two of the trim clips (one on either side of the rear mats at the door opening). They look very good and offer a lot more coverage than the OEM rubber mats. I have WeatherTech mats on both my 9th gen Accord and 17 Sorento, but the rear mats curl at the edges and even the front mat edges curl in a little. I'm going to try using a heat gun to re-form them. I digress....the TuxMat set seem very nicely made, fit well and look really good. They were a bit of a pain to get in, so I may not like the R&R process when cleaning. Time will tell.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are a bit of a tight fit, but well worth the effort to install them as they offer the best protection of any mat I have owned since 1987. I leave my Tuxmats in all year round and only take them out 2 to 4 times per year for a full mat wash. Regarding the Weathertech mats, I had the same issue with the hard plastic edge curling in on the sides of all of the mats. That issue coupled with the lack of full coverage of the Weathertech made me very happy to switch to Tuxmat.

    My wife and I both have the same cars; 2023 VW Golf GTIs. I bought TuxMats, front and rear for mine, Muddy Buddy front and rear for hers. We are happy with both. The only complaint that I have with the TuxMats is that they slightly interfere with fully depressing the clutch. The main takeaway I have between the two is that the TuxMats are premium looking and are almost like buying a portion of a new interior, especially in the rear. In my opinion, the car interior looks better with the TuxMats in than with other mats in place. The Muddy Buddy mats are just mats, but they are really great mats.

    Hello André,
    Some questions for you my friend;
    1) odds that the Velcro clips stay good after a season ? The ones I installed on the Niro gave out…but they were installed on carpet portions.
    2) that lip you have on the trunk liner that goes over the natural lip of the trunk ( near the door) …would you have preferred a straight wall at that point instead? ( as per near the seats) I can see that becoming a nuisance under certain circumstances…

      Hi Jeff.
      01) The velcro is stuck to the plastic and seems pretty solid so i am not concerned. In a worse case scenario it is just velcro strips that I can replace, the clips are what are important.
      02) I prefer the flat rear edge for loading and unloading items.
      03) The polos, dress shirts, and vest I had made for myself are not cheap so I never considered putting them for sale. They are of very high quality because I chose higher end brands. I was thinking of putting them in my Web store as out of stock to see how many people would chose the "notify when in stock" option, but unsure. I still don't think people are ready to spend 70$ or 80$ + shipping, even though they are beautiful. Who knows.

    Picking up a new car tomorrow, should be getting TuxMats next week. Would you recommend letting the mats settle for a few days to let the heat of the sun work on them before placing any clips? Additionally, I see a lot of debate regarding TuxMats vs. WeatherTech. I have WeatherTech in my truck and they've been great but the fit around the edges allows dirt to get in around the mat and the coverage isn't quite as good. I have no intention of replacing the WeatherTechs. They're ten years old and continue to do their job. That being said, the new vehicle is a four door sedan and the fit, coverage and look of the TuxMats seem more appropriate. Time will tell but I'm pretty confident the quality is there after watching and reading a number of reviews, including yours which I thought was excellent. Thanks.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much. There is no need to let the mats settle. I installed mine and put in the clips immediately and the fit is still perfect 1 year later. As for Tuxmat vs Weathertech, if you watched my original Tuxmat video, from 2019, then you will know that I much prefer Tuxmat. I have owned Weathertech mats in more than one car and the issue you describe for Weathertech is just one of my complaints. They are great mats, don't get me wrong, but Tuxmat offer more protection, better coverage, and in my opinion, look much nicer.

    Hi Andre, I have now received my 2023 EV6 GT-Line Package 1. I note that if one completely removes the cover over the subfloor it results in a significantly spacious trunk area. Would you know if anyone makes a waterproof tray that fits nicely in that subfloor area?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations on getting your EV6. For the trunk/boot I have not looked into it since I need the flat floor when the seats are folded, but your comment makes me wonder if the Kia trunk mat would work in your situation. You should ask your dealer if they have one in stock to test fit.

      @EV-olution  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the same thing as in my original 2019 review video. I think the Tuxmats are better overall. They do have the holes for the factory clips, but if you have enough water to reach the holes you have other issues 😎 My Niro EV Tuxmats never leaked and I expect the new version to be the same.

    Hi Andre. I put in the tuxmats on my EV6 and all was good. They look great and feel nice under foot. One problem I'm having is the rear hatch jiggles on bumps soundung a bit like it's not fully closed. I removed the mat and all is fine. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to return it.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Ed. Have you pushed the trunk liner forward, ensuring that the back edge is properly placed against the back seats? This makes sure the hatch fully closes. One thing I also did was to adjust the two rubber bump-stops for the rear hatch. I unscrewed them a quarter turn, closed the hatch and tried to move it with my hands. I repeated this until it was nice and firm.

    Hi, I like the floor mats but not the boot mat because of getting under the boot floor compartment. Me I would buy a normal boot liner that just sits on the floor like the one you can buy from the Kia accessories catalog.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same thing, but I have had to access the space below the boot a few times and have not had any issues. I have removed the retaining clips, since the liner stays in place due to the shape and fit, and getting under it is as easy as lifting the boot floor.

  • @YZERPLAN

    Hi Andre, how would I get to my spare tire with the clips you installed for the trunk liner? TIA

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just an FYI, the EV6 does not have a spare tire, but does have storage under the trunk floor, so I experienced the issue you are referring to. After installing the trunk liner and clips I would detach the Velcro clips at the rear to be able to access underneath. This became annoying over time. The solution happened by itself, over time the sticky part of the clip attached to the car came off on one side because of -20C weather, so I basically removed them from the rear of the liner. Since the liner has been in place for so long it has formed to the car and pretty much stays in place, and without the rear clips I can easily lift the liner up to access the storage underneath. I hope this is clear and makes sense.

    If the velcro on the bottom of the bag is the hook side, you could stick it to the back of the seat instead.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the suggestion, but the negative angle of the rear seat, and the combined weight of the EVSE and V2L adapter in the bag, mean that that would not work, it would fall off. I have had it stuck to the trunk floor since making this video and when I need the space, or need to put the seats down to put something big in there, I have been pulling the bag out and putting it on the floor of the back seat. It works well enough for my use case. What would be really cool would be to have enough room under the trunk, like in a Tesla.

    • @pokey47
      @pokey47 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guess mine is different, it is just the V2L, it still sits in the ground just grabs the seat to stop it from moving.

    What the front mat water run off like toward the seat under acceleration and forward runoff from the rear mats during braking? Doesnt appear to be much of a lip for either? Ps. During our winters we typically mop off any standing water after daily use.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      After a full winter of use I have done nothing other than use my car and have had no water hit my carpets, either front or back. So the lip is a non-issue. One thing to note is that I have always tapped my feet together before putting them in the car. This avoids large quantities of snow from accumulating on the mats.

    These look nice but seem awfully fiddly to take in and out. I noticed the rear ones for my vehicle don't have any lips like Weathertech and Husky do to hold liquids in and many, like yours, don't go over the door sill . Everything is a compromise, I guess, but I think that's a dealbreaker.

      You don't have to take them out every time you want to clean them, I just vacuum and wipe them down in the car. I only take them out after winter to really wash them completely.
