A lot of this is using older speculations about Neanderthals, we've found out they were capable of trap making, cooked a fairly large variety of foods, mated with modern humans, and probably had solid capacity for abstract thought.
Agree! 2:05 shows they intuitively understood the "Ulysses contract" and could imagine themselves in the future and in need of care from others, which impacted their present behavior and is evidence of advanced human conceptualization and imagination.
Add in that the first ceremonial burials dated to them as well, they were a whole more complex than we first thought of. This honestly sounds more like the writer based their working knowledge on just reading the first earth children's novels by J. Auel (clan of the cave bear).
Ikr imagine how cool it would be if we had another intelligent species among us today, they'd probably be severely discriminated against knowing people tho
As an anthropology student, I’m glad to see so many comments recognizing the the intelligence of Neanderthals. I’ve always found it unfortunate how they’ve had such a negative connotation attached to their name when in reality they were incredibly capable beings.
As an African American this is how I feeel about how people speak of blacks now and not so long ago. Your people had a bad rap but most of the world has forgotten about them mine still have a bad rap, most likely forever.
@cindybin2001 If two consenting adults want to have children let them have children. Race mixing has always been a thing, how do you think you got your Neanderthal genes?
I actually think these guys were way more capable than we think. imagine do all this with a rudimentar language, no tecnology and no medicines. if you actually think about this there´s a lot of work
We have made A LOT of assumptions about them. I am getting some serious colonial vibes from this comment section. Their tools weren't any worse than what we had, yet we still act as if they are inferior. Extinct, yes. Inferior, likely not.
Some Spectre I don’t think they were as effective either. I believe they were very capable but they never had the technology we had and I’m sure if they did then we would be very very advanced by now
technologies today are making us do things almost entirely by just 1 tool, the smartphone. some of us rarely talk to people anymore. perhaps there will no longer be any spoken language if things continue to evolve in this way. most of us today simply dont use the brain enough besides operating the smartphone so yeah who knows we might become another new spesis similar to them who have limited abilities

@@stg1325 The average person still uses needle and thread if they need to sew something. People only buy sewing machines if they're into dressmaking or they inherit their grandma's old machine.
Well, to be fair, there are lots of stuff humans invented a long time ago that didn't change much, because why fix what isn't broken. Knives, axes, fur clothes, and to some extent art, remain pretty similar both in form and use. And it's arguable that every single human civilization has included spears between their arsenal (if you consider bayonets as spear heads), using them in the same manners as they've always been (either melee or thrown like javelins). And I think ropes have remained the same in design too, but I'm not sure.
Actually, it is thought that they could use abstract ideas and capable of using some kind of proto speech to express theirselves, as well as body gestures.
I’ve lived with wolves for the last 30+ years. They have a clear concept of love for their mate and even have a word for it in their own language. We have about 300 words that we use between ourselves to communicate across our species barrier and they clearly have a lot more words that they understand that we say and that they use between each other. They use adjectives adverbs nouns and verbs as well as pronouns and specific names for individuals. Given that the wolves are doing that I suspect the Neanderthals were at least that advance.
That’s amazing bro. I really think all species have some type of consciousness. Dolphins are another super smart species I think their intelligence needs to be studied more. They just don’t have hands and walk on land otherwise they might have a whole civilization. I believe dolphins are second only to humans in brain to body size ratio.
Weirdly enough, we've found neanderthal bones that far exceed forty years old..as in eighties..so we're not quite sure what the actual lifespan is with new information.
Honestly, I like the thought of this type of life. It's simple. Just worrying about survival, nothing else. Done wilderness survival before in my life, and it was great.
The reason why Neanderthals are gone is that they interbred with humans. Other reasons at play include chronic ear infections and the individual Neanderthals being so closely related to each other.
I'm afraid it's extremely likely that the "proto language" was able of expressing much more complex ideas, and Neanderthals had no problem with abstract concepts, and could understand them to just under the level humans can.
