Thank you! The Matriarch is an amazing synth, and it's always surprises me too. Beautiful sound without a single cable, and infinite depth with just few. Thanks for listening and commenting. Cheers. :)
I bought a Minimoog back in the 90's not knowing what it was. I was in the market for a used reissue mini when I decided to go for a Matriarch instead. Now that I have years of farting around with synths under my belt, I understand that I wanted the mini out of nostalgia. You pay a big premium for its prestige. For less than 1/2 the dough I now have something that can do all the stuff I remember, and an order of magnitude beyond that. I am absolutely loving this synth and have been looking at youtube vids for inspiration. I'm glad that search brought me here. Thanks.
Thanks so much for this great comment! The Minimoog is awesome monosynth, no doubt, as is the Voyager. But I agree the Matriarch is just as good and goes beyond. With four-voice paraphony, dual delay, and open patch points, it's a unique synth with a ton of depth. Thanks for listening. Cheers! :)
Thank you, my friend! Much appreciated, especially from a fellow Matriarch player. The FM patch led to the piece here. Always looking to explore on the Matriarch -- so many possibilities. Thanks for listening. Cheers. :)
Such beautiful and smooth distortion. I absolutely love the way the mixer breaks up when you crank those levels. Great playing too. Also, I need to get some of those right angle patch cables
Thank you! Very much appreciated. The cables are from Tendrils. I like them with the Matriarch -- keeps everything neat, and I can leave it patched and still put a cover on it when not in use. Thanks for listening and commenting. Cheers. :)
This is lovely! Thanks for posting. The Matriarch can be frustrating at times but I'll never part with mine -- there is no other synth quite like it, and also as a basis for my eurorack system it's fantastic. Hopefully with the new reshuffling at Moog we'll get a firmware update that fixes some of the issues that are still there (the people running Moog were running the company into the ground, so the shakeup could be good in some ways).
Thanks, Noah! Much appreciated. I agree with you wholeheartedly on the Matriarch. Occasionally frustrating, but overall Amazing -- I also will never part with mine. Hope you're right about Moog -- will have to wait and see. I would like to see a solid editor for the global settings. Seems like such a fairly simple thing to put out and would make working with the global settings on the fly much more viable. Thanks for listening and commenting. Cheers. :)
They were doing their level best just to survive. They were an American company. Then Moog got bought out by a global conglomerate and then unleashed a mass layoff of American workers. I don’t see that as an improvement nor do I call it progress.
Thank you! Much appreciated. Check out the description. This is actually the same patch as a previous matriarch video I posted. I just lengthened out the envelopes, started with only oscillator one, and slowly brought the others in through the piece. Here's the link to the other video where you can see the patch pretty clearly. It's a totally different sound and vibe, but the same patch. I think, if I remember right, you can ignore the orange cable. Cheers! th-cam.com/video/DG9odlgRH80/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely gorgeous! I have a Matriarch, and this is exactly the vibe of music I want to make on it the most! Glad to see it can execute it so well! If you have publicly available patch diagrams, where might I find them? Also, how much did the other effects pedals play into the overall sound? Not that I want to copy you exactly, but just wondering. I'm sure even the patch on the Matriarch would be a great starting point to get somewhere in the same family of vibe...
Thank you, Heather! Much appreciated. Unfortunately I don't have patch diagrams, but there are some notes in the descriptions. This patch was mostly the same as my last Matriarch video (steel drums) which has a nice overhead shot of the patch, so you should be able to copy most of it from there (I'll put a link below). The only difference looks like the envelope settings and patching the sample and hold through an attenuator to the filter envelope amount (see the orange cable on this video). Starting with one oscillator and slowly mixing in the others in this performance. The FM patch is the main feature as gets grungier. As far as effects, they're adding a little. Reverb and tape-style delay gives some extra space to the sound and the Deco adds some drive/saturation. But you're mostly hearing the Matriarch. Could probably achieve close to the same with just a good reverb pedal. Thanks for listening. Cheers, and enjoy your Matriarch! :) th-cam.com/video/DG9odlgRH80/w-d-xo.html
@@dddayesq5061 Yeah, new Prophets are great! Same with LP and Grandmother. To each their own. There are times when the Matriarch frustrates me a bit, but in my opinion, it can sound totally unique. My first synth was Juno 6 around 1984. I was in middle school! Wish I still had it. Cheers. :)
This is really nice. I just got my Matriarch and your piece is very inspiring, makes me even more happy I decided to get it. What effects did you use ?
Thank you! Very much appreciated. Effects include Volante, Deco, and Mercury 7 pedals. Enjoy the Matriarch! It really is an amazing and unique synth. Pure Moog core sounds plus deep patching for endless exploration. Cheers. :)

This piece reminds me of a dystopian landscape after a few nuclear bombs have been unleashed. Those who survived searched in vain for what drinkable non radioactive water remained. Some fought for whatever precious supplies remained. Many died… ☢️
I played this for my wife to convince her we need this in our home. 😊👍
Glad to be of help. :) Hope you both enjoy the Matriarch. It's an amazing synth with so much depth. Cheers.
