  • This is a how to disassemble the Sony A5100 down to the motherboard. This allows you to add an additional thermal pad to the other microchip to hopefully help with cooling and overheating when recording video. I already did teardown previously so you'll see a second thermal pad already and the black piece trimmed back from the hack mod installed in this video.

Thanks, Very helpful. I have the same model and initially I tried to use videos of another model as guide. That did not work. I followed your video all the way, and then I was left to my own devices digging all the way through to the shutter (which was stuck). I made it. Advise: Where this video ends, take your own pictures (e.g. with your mobile), else you will be stuck at re-assembly. So I swapped the shutter (about AUD40 on Aliexpress), and began reassembly. Thus far successful, but I have to wait now for the rechargeable button cell ML621 to arrive (which was dead - and I am sure, your is dead, too) before I can complete assembly.

Yeah, I did this disassembly to add heat shrink to the battery and also add an external mic input.

@@najahgibson6094 I see there are used flash parts on eBay. You'd just have to swap them out.

Thank for your video. I broke the motherboard IC and the flex display cable during assemble. Only to remove dust in sensor, end up I remove the whole body into dustbin. Now I know repair electronic part is not myy profession

Hi Jesse, I have this camera and use it as a webcam, it often refuses to turn on, the access light blinks when it is behaving like this and I need to remove and re insert the battery for it to turn it on again. It does it with the sony battery as well as the dummy. I havent found any solution online, do you know what could cause it? Thanks

This camera is notorious for overheating. When I disassembled it. I added heat sink to the chip. I think the video shows where I added it. There’s a video about it on TH-cam. Not mine.

The contacts of the activation lever have oxidized. Remove the battery from the camera and turn it on and off 30-50 times, just move the power lever from one position to another. Then put the battery back in place and turn on the camera. It should help for a while.
