AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on TH-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!
Google Difference Between Access Point and Router. Some of the things you are referring to are an Access Point. A router takes a incoming signal and creates a network and manages the network traffic. The router manages incoming traffic from a Access Point. Good to know the difference between the two helps you in trouble shooting your network. Glad you guys are out there keeping us informed. 👌😎
Finally a Wi-Fi video that makes sense! Love your show you guys are the best and are certainly very knowledgeable. Hugs and kisses from South Carolina South Carolin
19:12 is the look of a woman who loves her husband. I'm new to RV life, but not to loloho and I adore you two and the fact that you've not changed one bit over the years. The best youtube RV/life channel out there. Safe travels.
Thank you so much, Scott! What a sweet compliment. Totally made my day! 💗🤙
You are very kind. Someone commented recently about what a great community we have on TH-cam -- seems more positive than many. You Scott are an example of it!
Some tips: 1. Download a Wi-Fi analyzer app to test Wi-Fi signal strength. It's better than using the Wi-Fi bars on the phone. 2. A directional antenna attached to the booster can work much better than an omni-directional antenna. You turn it until you get the strongest signal. 3. If you have non-metal RV, you must maintain a certain amount of separation between the roof antenna and the inside booster antenna. If they are too close you get a feedback loop. This is a similar concept to the whistle feedback from microphones the are too close to speakers. 4. WeBoost has a booster that is a cradle that you place your phone in. It doesn't broadcast cellular inside the RV so it will not feedback through the roof antenna. If you only want to boost hotspot data, this is a cheaper solution. 5. Hotspot data is usually limited and can be expensive. Video uses it up fast. It is better to save it for PC use. 6. You can watch NetFlix, Prime, TH-cam, and other videos using your phone's unlimited data by mirroring your smartphone screen onto your TV screen. 7. If possible, set your default video quality to a lower level. It uses much less data and will not stop to buffer as much.
Not everyone has unlimited data on their phone
I've been taking road trips during the week of the 6 major holidays. I traveled with a work phone on the Verizon network and a personal phone on the AT&T or T-Mobile network. I love visiting national and state parks. 99% of the time Verizon and AT&T had 1 bar or no service. When approaching retirement, I switched my personal phone to T-Mobile and found that it had better signal strength than Verizon in many parks. Thanks for the tip on cellular boosters. I tried one at my house 15 years ago when I had Sprint for my personal phone and it didn't help at all. I think the problem was the flat directional antenna. But technology has improved a lot in the past 15 years as that was my job for over 30 years.
Thanks for making something that could be really complicated simple enough to understand. 😊
way to keep it fresh ya'll. we use the wifi your life cellular based system with booster and antenna, love it. works good. you can make calls through your apple laptop and get better coverage than our phone, go to state parks, etc and can work, etc and watch TV, Hulu, etc and works great. Att has a wireless non capped non slow down program for RV folks
Love the Farraday cage bit. I used to work in a network hub downtown Atlanta and we would use a Farraday cage directly under a 100k watt radio tower and our RF cable equipment was clean. :D
Also, by setting your phone next to the booster you may be overdriving the wireless being transmitted. Signals that are too hot will create as much packet loss as ones that are too low. Get a bandwidth tester and try it right next to it, and 5-10 feet away and see where you get better speeds.
You can also go to your cellular carrier's website and see what the coverage is like.
We have used a WeBoost for 2 years and it works just fine for us. We use it mainly for calls and youtube when we are camping in places where the cell phone signal is a 1 or less. We enjoy watching your channel.
Thanks, sounds like a perfect use of the WeBoost! Glad to hear it is working well for you.
Great video as usual guys. A cheaper option that may work for you if you use an actual hotspot device is a MIMO antenna that will stick to your window with suction cups & costs about forty bucks. It has two antenna leads that plug into the hotspot which usually has two antenna ports. Too bad phones don't have external antenna inputs. Look for this thing on Amazon "Netgear 6000450 MIMO Antenna with 2 TS-9 Connectors" One other thing to note is that boosters will amplify and also generate some noise so the extra bars may be from that instead of signal. A better test is to run "Speedtest" and see if you get better data rates with or without the booster.
THANK YOU ! GLAD YOU BOTH ARE SAFE & SOUND ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH & THE PUP ALWAYS ! ENJOYED !
Thanks for the "Wifi" rundown. It is a ton of information and choice.
I used to use an AT&T Hotspot that worked like a dream, but decided to stop that service - expensive. I now have a WeBoost, but haven't set it up yet, mainly because I have no idea what I'm doing, but will get it set up soon. I have a Lazy Daze with an aluminum skin on it, so the WeBoost is important. Excellent video. Thank you!!!
My friend Wendy just purchased a home in Pennsylvania. The internet is not existent. The cell signal and sorta good. This is exactly what i have been telling her to get. This is super timely video! As always thanks for watching our bloggggg!
thanks for watching, Matt!
Great information. Preparing for a trip from Vermont to Texas hitting many state parks along the way and this is very helpful! Thanks!
Awe...Vern and Rita. We've spent many a night listening to them. They are missed! My favorite song Vern used to sing was Whispering Pines...I always requested it. Keep in mind I'm part of the younger generation...kind of...that would listen. Thanks for mentioning them.
Ronnie did a great job explaining it - makes perfect sense. Have not heard anyone who showcases these products explain the signal. Thanks Ronnie. Thanks for putting him on here. I am learning from ALL of you before I hit the road.
Beer & dog pictures -- that's just the balance of probability right there! 😉👍
this is a real good information about using Internet for the full time RVer or van-lifer.
Thanks for another great video. Got to see the comet when we were at our park model rv in central Oregon, on July 17. It was magnificent! When you were pulling in, I thought back to a camping trip years ago, we had a Chalet A-frame trailer, pulling into a narrow spot, and the guy across the driveway had his truck parked partially in the road, which made it tighter. So, I just played a total newbie, going back and forth until he moved his truck... and then pulled in nicely. Amazing to see the ferry guys backing rigs onto the ship. Loved the relaxing ending to the video.
We had screaming fast internet at Estes Park KOA this summer. Your Faraday cage is GREAT protection in a lightening storm. Can't have everything! We spent 10 weeks in our A-Frame this summer. We used a car version of the WeBoost with Verizon on phones and hotspot. My phone worked best of all. The JetPack next best. My son's phone least well. We generally upgraded 4G signals from 1 bar to 3 or 2 bars to 4 bars. We don't have a 5G anything. Even after we hit the throttle-data-limit my phone was the fastest of all with the booster. We also saw greatly improved signal when we mounted our antenna onto a 24 foot telescoping pole. So I will dump the Jetpack hotspot. And buy a better phone for my son for next summer.
One thing many campers don't realize is that our devices, laptops, iPads, etc., do not have antennas that are designed to TRANSMIT the WiFi signal BACK to the park antenna. They are designed to transmit a signal about 30-35' in your house to your WiFi router. So while you may have good signal from a WiFi antenna in a campground your laptop may not be communicating back very well due to its tiny antenna. By adding a WiFi receiver/transmitter antenna to your rig you can gain two key advantages. First, the right antenna will let you pick up a campground WiFi anywhere in the park. Second, it will boost your device's antenna signal so that what you send out to the internet actually gets there, i.e., type in a web address in your browser, if it sits and spins it may simply be because the campground WiFI just didn't' get your transmission back. Ubiquiti NanoStation loco M2 is a great solution for this problem. Check out David Bott's TH-cam channel for a thorough explanation of the Nano Station and how to set it up. We have been in plenty of campgrounds hearing campers complaining about the internet while we are having zero issues. Just be aware, even if you have the antenna and can send/receive well the campground antenna you may still have slow internet service because the internet pipe to the campground is too small to serve the bandwidth needs of all the campers. At least if you have the antenna you cut out one of the problems in the chain of devices and signals. By the way you can sit in the parking lot at McDonald's, Starbucks, etc., and pick up their signal sitting in your rig with the Nano Station antenna - no need to even sit down inside, nice bonus during Covid.

NEW! Official LOLOHO Newsletter mailchi.mp/loloho.com/jointhelolohonewsletter
My wife and I have separate cellular plans, AT&T and Verizon. It helps cover some the holes in the carrier coverage for each of the services. Often if one us doesn't have a decent signal, the other does.
I love your channel been watching for years now. I have the weboost drive reach booster and while it does work. My phone has the be propped against the indoor antenna to work. As soon as I move even 3 inches away from the indoor antenna I loose it all. My next trick to try is a 4g router propped againt the indoor antenna and hopefully that will broadcast it throughout the camper
Still enjoy your videos. I appreciate the goofy, dry humor.
Cellular signal does Not penetrate thru metal, it reflects. The cellular signal has a hard time penetrating glass. The signal you see in your Airstream is coming thru your windows. You would benefit from a cell booster or wifi booster for your internet especially. Great video!
I've been using cellular data connection to a laptop since the early 2000's when I had a USB cable. Since cellular carriers have included hotspots on phone and tablets, I've found that you have to have a minimum of 3 bars of signal strength to get decent performance. With the work you do, I would recommend not trying to do it with less than 3 bars otherwise it will take all day to upload your files.
No cell booster knowledge but we use a King Falcon as our internet booster and it works great.
Just so you guys know, 5G E is actually just 4G given a fancy name, a marketing ploy by AT&T. Also, of course the booster will give 4G to a 5G system, they're inherently backwards-compatable. When 6G comes out, 5G will work on all 6G phones, boosted or not. 3G also works on 4G phones.
Thanks for the information. Have been wondering about what to do with our call signal. Very informative. Glad to see the Closed caption. I'm close to deaf and appreciate it!!
We use a WeBoost Drive 4G LTE booster and it works great both in the US and Canada. If you are travelling through Lethbridge Alberta, Bridgeview RV resort has great wifi for a fee.
Thank you for all of the great information. I'm getting ready to hit the road in September as a newbie and your videos have really helped prepare me for the road ahead. I also enjoy the back-and-forth delivery that you provide. Here's to your continued good health and good fortune. Paz
Health is holding up pretty good! Thanks much!
whenever you are in costco, check out the new sat phones. you cant really expect to use it constantly but it is great to have around for emergencies. they are no longer those big things that look like the old cell phone bricks but they are now the size of a small cell phone. Just in case you run out of gas in the middle of the desert.
Always providing us with relevant content in an enjoyable format.
We have as well learned to rely on our cellular data plan and pretty much ignore campground WiFi. Our experience has been very good with ATT cellular along the US freeway network.
OnStar Wi-Fi by AT&T in my Chevy truck stretches a 50 ft radius. Have Wi-Fi ranger in my camper but don't notice and appreciable difference I think it has to work in combination with the wi-fi at the campground very hard to log on
A cellular connected iPad works wonderfully as a hotspot
thanks for the info we are a month in to our shake down trip loving it some minor issues full time start date is aug 31 also our closing date for the house
Pssst Sean there is only one Internet, thus it is singular. Another option folk might want to consider is the WEBoost or another directional antenna. You have to aim it every time you set up but it will give you a stronger signal than the omni directional antenna that comes with most cell boosters. There's trade offs in every thing. More signal for more hassle. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Shucks, I meant to say InterWebs!
Ozite (sp?) Is a great sound damper. That is the rug cover on you walls to stop noise with rain.
Medora was good. When working there, one of the access point antenna was on a light pole right next to my bus. Only issue is it was starting to fail, so every few days it would stop assigning ip addresses, and I had to walk out to the pole and reset it. 🤣
Thanks for the video I plan on working from my RV and it was very helpful.
Helpful . Rest area looks like West bound I-40 before Flagstaff we love the rock formations there
Great video. Wife and I just got set up to do some remote work. All done on Verizon and at&t hotspot. Also have a router with a booster. Works great. We never depend on sites WiFi.
One thing to note about cellphone boosters: I'm not sure what the rules are in the US, but here in Canada, if you get caught with a booster that is improperly installed (or not allowed by your carrier), the provider has the legal right to show up and confiscate the booster. This is due to the desire to provide a certain level of coverage in the area for as many users as possible. Improperly installed boosters often make the service worse for others in the area. Always contact your provider to see if boosters are allowed, what frequencies they use, and what brand of booster is officially supported. Also, don't buy the cheap ones as many do not support the LTE network; no LTE support means no VoLTE for better voice calls and coverage.
Wow! That's crazy! We've never heard anything about this before. Guess we'll be doing some research before venturing north of the border. Thanks for telling us!
@@kristymichael the problem is usually with the cheaper ones found at Wal-Mart, etc as they usually have not been certified by any Canadian standards group; they usually have problems staying tuned to the proper cellular frequency. Yours should be okay as it's a reputable brand. Rarely do they get confiscated, most users from what I hear oblige and uninstall them.
The Winegard 2.0 booster was installed from the factory when we purchased or mew 5th wheel. But we haven't activated it yet. I will let you know how it works when we get it going.
I love to watch your channel, keep up the great videos!
OMG!! the segment of the vicious wild chihuahua waging the tail for forgiveness had me in a knot laughing. I love you guys!!
Because of you I will be so much better when I start
Very timely. WE've run into this with Verizon, which is really all in Western Rural Iowa. Some of the State Parks it just dies. Goes from 4 o 1 bar of service and makes it hard to do work for LeAn and streaming is almost impossible. I've gone to our Verizon Store here and nothing. They say it's not worth it. Our real problem is our Faraday cage which is our Aluminum Frame in the Laminated sides, Top and bottom of our rig. They do kill it. I have the same issues with Shortwave Radio inside as well. I'm going to look into these Items, we've talked a lot about this. Thanks guys this was great.
We live full time in our RV, we use a cellular internet device from AT&T. We added it as an extra line to our cell phone plan.
I’m not a physicist but thanks to my time in the military, I sure know what a Faraday cage is. Thanks for the input on Airstreams, I always wondered how well reception works in an aluminum skinned vehicle.
On a different note, have you seen the latest MavicAir 2 update? Digital zoom, better sports mode gimbal control and more. This little drone is taking over the lead of the entire Mavic line. Still wont replace the top line big drones but starting to close in on them!
I updated mine today. The new firmware seems great! Now I wish they would unleash the Mini with a big firmware update!
We were in an RV park near a Wifi booster but could only get signal by the entrance door of our unit because the rest of the RV's direct line of sight to the booster was blocked by a 4 x 4 sign support a few feet from the booster.
I have always used my phone as a hot spot for internet and for Roku TV. Usually works well but I have always been in urban area's.
Sean, Ronnie is a Genie in a bottle. A real Phd.RV,
He is a rare find!
We just ordered a WeBoost for installation at Ultimate Airstream. We need to get out of the faraday cage!
Good to see your antenna is up
There's nothing more sad than a flaccid antenna.
We don't full-time, but when we do camp, we use Skyroam. It is satellite based, but they have several plans. We've never had any issues with it.
It’s a 4G LTE hotspot. Not satellite.
Good to see you both. Sean seems to be doing great. Havent seen you for a while.
Great vid. Camped for 30 days (July 2020) in California (near mountains). No booster and used Verizon Jet Pack. Verizon jet pack was decent. AT&T coverage was a bit dodgy. Loved this vid.!
With all the craziness going on today. I love to relax and watch your channel.
We just came back from a 6 week trip following the Mississippi upriver. As you, we use our cell hot spot for internet and most of the time, it was limited because of rural areas. A booster like Surecall would have been nice. Thanks for the info!
We have a park model RV in a resort (1/4 owners) and the free wifi can stream video on low resolution early in the morning, the rest of the time we can stream music, check email. No cell signal available... but not sure if a cell booster would work to get anything.
WiFi ???... "Sometimes I wonder Wi" (why) by Jason Aldean. "Wi dont you love me".... (why) by Hank Williams. "Wi... by Enigma - Relaxing Music - "Why!" Yes indeed everybody's asking Wi? Why isn't the WiFi signal strong enough at this campin' site?! Thanx to youz guys, we now know Wi. I use free WiFi at a private campground on CapeCod, MA, finding the signal weak, but I'm glad it's free. A city owned campground on the North Shore, North of Boston, that I often visit too has free WiFi. The signal is great, well it's quite good until they shut the lites off at evening 10:00pm. By then they think everybody has rolled up the awning, put out the campfire & turned in for the evening. To this I often ask myself Wi?Oh, I'm not complaining, just doodling on the humor of it all. You see, I'm retired & don't run a business out of my RV like you full-timers have to. I go campin' for the sheer joy of fresh air, water at the lake or ocean, and green trees around me. I do feel bad though for all the folks who are struggling to pay bills, keep a job, raise a family, & get a decent nights sleep., maybe even get a week or two away in a tent or trailer every year. Hey, keep thoze vids coming. Good stuff you bring to the table. CamperFrank with my AS 23 footer, 'The Silver Conestoga Wagon'. A lot of thinkin' went into naming my rig, so don't laugh. :>} .
We work from our rig, we would hotspot from our phones. Recently we upgraded to a Pepwave mini.
Very informative, thanks for sharing. Take care and be safe!!
Weboost installed and I used a painters pole to get extra height over other rigs, some trees, would just caution folks not to forget to check the antenna on the walk through before leaving. I forgot once and weboost is no more! Severed by a tree limb. Bye bye weboost. 😢
It could happen to any of us. We once drove away with our trailer door wide open.
But with Weboost, you can connect it to the Sat (satellite) coax entry on the side of the trailer (for Airstreams and possibly other brands), which doesn't require a "permanent" install.
@@robertmantha1931
Like I said, I wanted the extra height, as well as a coax port on the back so that the internal antenna could live in the middle of the rig, short range the internal, just as shown in this video.
@@LongLongHoneymoon I'll bet you've even drove away without disconnecting from shore power.
@@douglastoney2843 I haven't done that yet, but I did once drive away with our trailer still plugged up to our generator.... dragged the cord for a few blocks. 🙈
I think of cell phone bars as idiot lights. Similar to the gray tank lights 1/3rd, 2/rds etc. A better approach for finding out how strong your cell phone signal is would be to use an app such as Network Cell Info Lite. It gives you a digital readout of how strong your signal is, making it possible to walk through your trailer to look for the best spot. The app also shows you on a map the tower you are connected to. I use Android so don't know whether this exact app is available for Apple, but probably something similar. Way better than saying 2 bars, 3 bars, etc. I'm currently getting -95 on my signal strength meter. It also shows the strength of your wifi connection in addition to cell signal.
Thank you for the information and video..Have a blessed day...
Thanks you two. I knew I could get a good laugh or two from you.
Watching in a state park with my tablet connected to my cell phone hot spot. Finally got decent signal with the phone in an upper cabinet.
I have watched soooo many of your videos! I’ve learned so much, and you two are funny and entertaining as well. Love Baby Grrrlll too! Thanks! Oh, and I’m always getting stuff through the Amazon store. So helpful. Double thanks!!
You are so kind!
Tks for information especially an option for cell booster systems, Sure Call, nope can’t say it 3x...
I rarely use Wifi anymore because of poor performance, but mainly security. When on the road be it traveling or working, I use my cell phone hotspot.
Love your videos thanks for doing some of the research for us!
Have you looked into Skyroam for internet reception?
Amazed how Rarely the WeBoost provides a benefit........When compared to the Netgear 2x2 MIMO suction cup antenna with the Verizon MIFI......As far as Speed test, the 2x2 MIMO MiFi allows much better throughput than the WeBoost. Even in areas where I would of expected the WeBoost to shine, I am not getting improvements. I test with Omni and various Yagi, and use a Power meter to help aim the Yagi........I will continue to make changes to my setup to see if I can get better performance. More bars on the phone with WeBoost just means I am receiving a strong amplified signal from the Booster which is more than often amplified noise in hard to cover areas. So More Bars means very little. Speed test means usable versus amplified noise.
Are nearby campers able to grab cell service off of your booster? If so, does it then slow down or adversely affect your cellular service from the booster?
WeBoost cellular booster installed in the RV

Thanks Guy's enjoyed the video great information I am wanting to put a "Cell Booster" Thingy in my R.V. Thanks for the Info. I also like how you inform us on how it has worked for you!
Thanks for answering my question from the Chat! Fairly pricy but... I'd rather be able to work remotely and stay out a few extra days than have to come back home to our internet to get things done!
I'm a fulltime RV'er (travel nurse), I use my phone as my hotspot. I have a Verizon unlimited plan, problem is they throttle me down to
We installed a Weboost. We see an improvement usually 2 bars im
I don't recall you two discussing heavy cell use, i.e., hundreds of GBs/mo for streaming TV services, etc. Perhaps I missed it? What plans do you use for avoiding throttling or do you not use much more than 40GB or so a month?
Hi! Thanks for the video- I clicked the Amazon link for SureCall and the white external antenna isn’t included. Just a short black one.
Please clarify info about the white external. Why did you choose that and what is it?
Thanks!
Hey guys. Another awesome episode. It's challenging enough getting wi-fi at home. It's crazy trying to get access while you're on the go.
What kind of service have you guys experienced in Sequioa/Kings Canyon?? Do you recommend one of these for that location over another?
That's really interesting and useful information. Great video.
Great video on wifi options. We think you have somewhat simplified some things compared to other channels talking about the same subject.
Thanks for your help. I have been wondering about this.
Will I be extremely foolish if I go to Glacier National Forest from GA. in late September, thinking I'm going stay in a tent? I'm only asking you because I know you are well aware of that area. OK now I can finish watching this video. Thank you!!
Sounds like fun! The issues I see are weather (it may be snowing out there) and Covid mess. Go! You will have a lot of flexibility with a tent.
We had snow in August at our campground just outside the park, so there are no guarantees. But don't let that stop you from going.
Your timing is perfect! I'm looking for a solution.
I've tried using my phone as a hotspot. The problem is, the data used as a hotspot is not pulled from the "unlimited" data plan, it's separate. So you might have unlimited data and run up a bill. Also my phone gets too warm, IMO. I also don't have good cell reception inside the Airstream. I'm considering a Jetpack plus a data plan and a suction cup Mi-Mo window antenna. So far the cost is keeping me away from data plans around $100/mo.
The technology changes so fast, nothing is perfect forever. (or even a year)
Thanks for the help with the internets. We like Verizon in Wyoming.
What do I use for cell signals? I still use smoke signals works every time...
We spent a week at the Dayton KOA last summer, and the WiFi was out for our whole stay. Even when an RV park's WiFi is up, it's usually going to stop and start if I try streaming something like LoLoHo.
How do you like the SureCall now?
Thank you all, again for the great info! This definitely will help when we get our silver bullet.😃
Verizon has a service called Visible that used to be good, but now it does not work well at all. They did upgrades and it does not work in many of the places it used to. They know it does not work in many places and do not seem to care.
I'm wondering what areas you are trying to use Visible in? We just recently got Visible based on friend who have used it during their extensive travels down south and out west. We just used it the for the first time at a nearby COE campground and it worked perfectly. But I'm am wondering how it will work as we travel up to the Pacific Northwest. We are in a party setup with our friends so the cost is only $30 per month with unlimited data, so I think that's about as cheap as you can find for internet service while you travel.
