In this video I’ll unbox and give my initial impressions of the Acer Chromebook Spin 312 that launched at the end of 2024. It’s a 12.2 inch convertible touchscreen Chromebook.

Exact model is this video is ‎CP312-1H-C0B2 / NX.KYTEK.006 / N24C7and the other main model in the UK is CP312-1H-C2YD | NX.KYTEK.002 Spec wise they look like they are identical, both featuring the Intel N100 quad-core processor, 4GB LPDDR5 RAM and 64GB eMMC Flash memory. Both have the same 12.2” WUXGA 1920 x 1200 16:10 aspect ratio touchscreen.
As mentioned in the video the main spec of this Acer Chromebook Spin 312 in the US features the Intel Core i3-N305, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, so a higher spec than the version we see in the UK. The US model number is CP312-1HN-34Z7 / part: NX.J0PAA.001

Yup, a pretty nice deal. Can't say I'm not a little envious of that spec option and deal on it in the US right now 🤑

Interesting little beastie. In general, I'd love to know about mimimum brightness, blue light harshness and flicker (PWM, temporal dithering, etc). Given I'm strugglging to find any light weight new device that doesn't hurt my brain.

A little beastie indeed! Using it now at night it's certainly viewable at just one button press of the screen brightness level. It's TÜV Certified for low blue light, as you may have seen from the label to the left of the touchpad.
Do you use the Night Light mode on your current Chromebook? Out of interest, which model?

@MergeDroid Oh hey thanks. Those Samsungs did catch my eye! But no touch screen and for that price I'm leaning towards the flexibility and legacy support of a full Windows laptop.
I've just returned a Duet 5 to a poor eBay seller. Screen gave slight discomfort and distracting horizontal grey tone bands. Think I got stung by RTings (mis)stating very mild high frequency PWM, contrary to Notebookcheck finding it far lower and worse. (Other problems eg Bluetooth audio connection hopeless/choppy.)
Then I tried a OnePlus Pad 2 (for nice low weight lap use), because its IPS and no PWM. But that is the most unpleasant screen I've ever used! Feeling like my brain is crackling up and turning off. So wondering if it has temporal dithering or blue-spectrum LEDs. Such a damn maze of BS, being screen sensitive, probably due to me having ME/CFS.
I think it only used to be brightness and blue spectrum. So I check all the minimum brightness specs and need below 10nits. Then deploy F.Lux on PC and eye saver, etc, on android.

Many thanks for another interesting review. I like the ratio, and the 2 in 1 factor, but i'm not sure its worth buying if you have a spin 311. Ive found the 4gb ram fine in my 311. I might be tempted if the i3 N305 version was available here, the extra memory and hard disc space would be worth another £50.
I asked acer if they were bringing the US version here but no reply...

Glad you liked the video. If you have the Spin 311 with the MT8183 or Celeron N4000 this will still be a nice upgrade in terms of the processor and display, of course with a longer update life to ChromeOS. In the UK in particular though as I mention it's worth weighing it up against the Flex 3i spec'd with the same N100 processor but 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, a Full HD camera and a backlit keyboard as I link to at the end of the video. If Acer could have, or do bring the spec with the Core i3-N305 here then it'd have the edge over the Flex 3i in terms of spec, aside from the backlit keyboard being missed. As always though there's more to it than just the spec sheet, I'll give my full thoughts on this Spin 312 after I've lived with it for a bit.

I've got a 4GB Acer 311 and the lack of RAM forced me to disable Android to have sufficient performance. It's almost incomprehensible that they're still producing 4GB Chromebooks in 2025. The costs savings over 8GB is marginal, yet the lack of RAM will render these devices obsolete in the near future.

Hi, yeah a difficult one for sure. For you, or anyone reading that wants to improve the performance of their Chromebook, whether you have 4GB RAM or more try these steps - th-cam.com/video/84mvrXyoQHs/w-d-xo.html Leave a comment there as to what works well or not for you.
Back to this Spin 312 in particular, not to pre-empt my full review too much, but I do feel like Acer missed a trick in not bringing the spec with 8GB RAM and the Core i3-N305 to the UK. That would be some serious competition for the Lenovo Flex 3i 12.2 inch that I link to at the end of this video. In the meantime I feel this spec is more than adequate for the average user and light browsing in ChromeOS, but will make it a trickier buying decision when comparing to Chromebooks offering 8GB RAM. In the US it's an a great spec, especially considering they never got an 8GB RAM option of the Lenovo Flex 3i !

@MergeDroid I've got the Flex 3i and hate that squishy Lenovo keyboard. The Acer 311 keyboard beats its by a wide margin. It's unfortunate that the Acer 312 is only offered in a N100 / 4GB SKU in the EU as it would be a great alternative to the Flex 3i and upgrade path to numerous Acer 311 owners . The Intel N305 CPU of 8GB US model has twice the e-cores of an N100/N200 and may still be passively cooled if they used the 9W c-TDP down variant. Unfortunately the visible grille suggests that there is indeed a fan inside, at least on the N305 model.

@@Roman-nu1om I quite like the Lenovo Flex 3i (12.2 inch) keyboard, especially with the backlight option like I had - th-cam.com/video/nc6RMm7Z9JQ/w-d-xo.html I can appreciate your preference might be for the deeper key travel on the Acer Spin 312 though.
Yes, it's a real missed opportunity for Acer not to offer the Core i3-N305 8GB RAM Spin 313 in the UK (and other regions that don't get it). As you say, the better processor alone makes it very appealing over the Flex 3i, at least a serious contender to compare. In the US they oddly never got the higher spec 8GB RAM, backlit keyboard etc Flex 3i, so the higher spec Acer Spin 312 should dominate there with no issue. Perhaps Lenovo or one of the other manufacturers will strike back and exploit the gap in the regions without the higher spec model......or, Acer could still offer it in those regions 🤞
There is definitely a fan inside the Spin 312 N100 version. As mentioned in the video (via my corrective text), the only time I've been able to get it kick in is during a startup after an update. There are examples of other Chromebooks where they still have ventilation grills, but remove the fan in options where they have a processor that doesn't require it, e.g. Intel N200 in the Lenovo 14e Gen 3 - th-cam.com/video/LwHoa6mL-hM/w-d-xo.html
The Core i3-N305 will definitely have and use the fan during use when needed, much like the same spec'd Acer Chromebook 314 - th-cam.com/video/9HFonlBjSAw/w-d-xo.html

I'd also prefer 8GB minimum for ChromeOS in 2025, but for a single casual user 4GB is still fine in ChromeOS. Especially if you follow these performance tips - th-cam.com/video/84mvrXyoQHs/w-d-xo.html
