While there’s nothing I can say that will make you a better player, I’d love to give you some tips that have helped me succeed in past auditions! 1. Know the packet like it’s the back of your hand. You’re going to have times where you’re nervous, and that’s normal! But the better you know the packet, the higher chance muscle memory will kick in once you get nervous. It’ll help you from “ticking” as often! 2. Be confident! Give the staff nothing but reasons to like you, and staff loves confident players. Ultimately throughout the entirety of a drum corps season, you’re going to have to be confident 24/7, so they’re going to be looking for that right from the get go! 3. Be teachable, be willing to adapt. Throughout a season of drum corps, you’re going to have to adapt to many scenarios, most of which you can’t predict, you may have to change something about your approach to the instrument, or how you move, anything, and the staff is going to throughout the audition, tell you things to improve on, they may not give many compliments on your playing just because they only have so much time, and they want to see who can adapt and improve the quickest!
Hi Davis Jay, I love your videos. You're part of the reason I've gone on to do indoor this year for my high school, and part of the reason I'm going to the troopers audition in my city. Stay cool!!!
@DavisJay i'm planning to buy the hybrid white, since my system blue head broke and i'm used of it. When the new re-released Hybrid Black, i can't find any review of the head since this video come out. But still, the white is better, Thank you for the ultimate head review. Love from the Philippines ❤️
Hey, great to see long form content. Could you possibly do a video breaking down different drumsticks? I think that would help people better achieve the sound they are looking for. Byw keep up the good work. I love seeing long form comtent for drumline, and it makes me feel like I can someday play just as well.
How come Bluecoats used the Black Evan’s head when that head is more wet and thick? Idk I feel like most corps use more thin and articulate heads. Just curious
Some people like to let it rest a while but honestly you don’t need to, they’re Kevlar, they won’t break, the head might drop in tone but thats gonna happen, so I don’t really wait Now a bottom head on the other hand, you want to let it rest, take it up slower
Oohhh i just got my drumheads for my first ever marching snare. Unfortunately, my yamaha sfz came with different tension rods. I csnt tune my snare. Do you know maybe what the mesurements are for the tension rods?
@ interesting, I’m not too sure about that, I’ve never had this issue before, I’m sure you could get in contact with Yamaha customer support and they might be able to help!
Davis, I need help! I am auditioning for my school’s indoor snare line for the first time this year, and I feel unprepared. What should I do in the coming weeks to prepare???
Hey man! You can do this, I wish there was a lot I could say that would help, but the best you can do is find time to practice the materials, practice them VERY slowly, work out all the kinks, put it with the feet, and show up willing to accept any advice or critique they have! You’ll do great
@@DavisJay bro, thank you so much! I absolutely idolize you and your playing, so it means a lot hearing that from you. Just keep doing what you do-changing lives with your drumming 🫶🫡
@@DavisJay No problem, man. I will always be your biggest supporter (even if my section leader sadly forced me to unsubscribe to you). Love you, dude 🥁
i love videos like these where people nerd out on marching gear
🤓🤓
DAMN, you tuned the snare to perfection on each head, this is the definition of a CRACKED snare.
I appreciate it man🤘🏼💪🏼
Those hybrid greys are soooo nice
Yeah they are!
@ those are the heads my school uses they are perfect btw I saw bloo this summer yall where really good
@ heck yeah man, thanks
@ also was thinking about auditioning for a group next summer got any tips to make a line

You should’ve asked for the system blue head
@@D0nk0 they wanted me to make a video specially on the hybrids, I have a system blue head

That’s so cool! I’m glad I can inspire you to be a part of this amazing community that’s what I do this for💪🏼💪🏼
I’ve been looking for a video like this. No better place to watch it than Davis Jays channel 🔥
I’m glad I could provide! Happy you enjoyed:D
@ 🔥
So happy for Jay casually being sent 300 dollars worth of drumheads and playing on em for fun
That’s why we love Evans❤️
Just need a review of that live edge pad! 😂
I plan to do that actually!
the video i've waited before. now i can decide what to buy 💯
Aye lets goo, I’m glad you got some use out of this😎

@psalmdanielledizon9439 all the heads are great, I’d say the hybrid black is most similar to the system blue if that’s what you’re wanting!
@@DavisJay ohhh that's great, thanks for the idea 💡
@@psalmdanielledizon9439of course!

im getting a rudimental drummers corps pad for xmas and I got a hybrid grey head for it.
Heck yeah dude that’ll feel and sound great
@@DavisJay you should do a comparisom between a quanta, agility or something
How come Bluecoats used the Black Evan’s head when that head is more wet and thick? Idk I feel like most corps use more thin and articulate heads. Just curious
Just wanted to change it up! That’s the sound we wanted to go for
Love hybrid greys
Gotta love em
I have always used the batter head made by yamaha idk why but it sounds so good
I was in the middle of watching this and then all the sudden it was gone lmfao
lol yeah I had to change a few things oops
Would you do a remo review?
Maybe someday but I’m a proud Evans Partner!🤘🏼
No love for the System Blue
Maybe in another vid! This one’s about the hybrids:)
you should do pad reviews!!
I plan to!
also how long do you let your heads rest before you crank it all the way
Some people like to let it rest a while but honestly you don’t need to, they’re Kevlar, they won’t break, the head might drop in tone but thats gonna happen, so I don’t really wait

@4:10 ha ha... YES!
🙌🏼😎
DO THIS FOR REMO
real
Real
I’m a proud Evans artist, so I can’t do that unfortunately, maybe another time!
@DavisJay I have a question about the black head isn't that supposed to be the hybrid s and is it renamed hybrid black
i’ll do remo’s😏
My school uses Hybrid white, should we switch it up?
Depends on what sound you guys are going for!
@ We’re thinking whatever sounds snarey and crispy if that makes sense!
what's the difference between the system blue and the normal heads?
System blue is similar to the black hybrid, very warm soft and wet
Oohhh i just got my drumheads for my first ever marching snare. Unfortunately, my yamaha sfz came with different tension rods. I csnt tune my snare. Do you know maybe what the mesurements are for the tension rods?
I’m not sure what you mean, if you need the snare drum dimensions, most are 14x12 inch, but some are 13x12, Evans sells both sizes!
@DavisJay I did mean like the dimensions of the tension rods itself. Thr seller put a variety in my snare. Why?
@ interesting, I’m not too sure about that, I’ve never had this issue before, I’m sure you could get in contact with Yamaha customer support and they might be able to help!
@DavisJay thanks man. 1 more question and then I'll be off your hair. What drumsticks are you using in this video?
@ ask as many questions as you want man! I’m happy to help the best I can:) these are Jeff ausdemores by promark!
Is remo a good drum brand?

Hey do you know the best cheap marching snare drum?
It’s not easy to find one cheap, all are pretty much the same price new, so check Facebook marketplace, people sell used ones on there!
yo could you drop the sheet music for the lick at 1:20?
do you know which heads bloo used in 2023
Hybrid white!
