Sabaidee Fest 2024 - Response to the Hate

  • SBDF 2024: I’m really disappointed in the division being created in our already divided Southeast Asian communities after @sabaideefest, so I wanted to make a 3-part video (which I’ve compiled together here) to hopefully give you all some more information and perspective to think about before jumping to any conclusions about such a great movement that SBDF has started.
Part 2 [1:30] is my response to SBDF supposedly only being “for the money.”A financial sneak peek into @sabaideefest, from getting major SEA international artists, including bringing Cambodia’s biggest superstar to the US for the first time, to giving out tons of discount codes, artist & influencer kickbacks, and free tickets. I urge you to consider how much really goes into making a festival like this happen. The first of its kind. @sabaideefest team, you made history, don’t let anyone take that away from you.
“Sabaidee Fest was hands down one of the best experiences of my life.” - Priscilla
Part 3 [2:30] is my hot take - why is that when it comes to our SEA community, people get so upset about our own people making money, having successful businesses? Perhaps we might consider that expecting everything from our communities to be free is also taking advantage of our people. You may not agree with me, and that’s fine. I only want the best for all of our communities. I hope this just urges you to think from another perspective. And here’s a gentle reminder to be kind to one another no matter our different beliefs. 🙏🏽

I'm all for supporting the community but when Saidadee ticket cost as much as a flight to Thailand, Cambodia or Laos, I rather sit my @ss home. 😅

I’ve seen and heard horrible things that the people in charge did and did Not do for a lot of the Artists that performed there… they were Not compassionated well, a few of the artist went back home with no money because they had to pay for a lot of things out of their own pockets…If the artist isn’t getting the money well you know somebody is!!! Tickets are not cheap! This isn’t their 1st or 2nd year of doing this Festival… don’t just take the words of the organizers go ahead and ask ALL of the Artist and hear what they have to say… I’m not hating I do wish them the best! But the organizers need to step up their game. Need to hire more people with more experience to run an event like this. ..don’t cheap out and hire homies and ppl with no experience for cheap…. Hoping it gets bigger and better for you guys!

Well said 💯 percent! I absolutely agree everything you mentioned. Why can't our Asian community come together and support one another instead of hating each other. We all have to support and come together as one and unite.

I definitely agree with what you said! The Sabaidee Fest was amazing as it was! Yes, improvement can be made but seeing Southeast Asian coming together to build this music festival was a great idea. And to those who were complaining, Priscilla you hit the spot! This was a time for them to build up their music and their name. Basically advertise yourself! When you build your name, the money follow. I love your response to the Hater! You go girl!

The topic is not only for profit. The topic is for treating each other fairly and well for the "unity of Southeast cultural community as Sabaidee's mission and purpose - As you said" Have you seen the financial books? Most of these artists are undervalued and underpaid. The people running this are racking up, donations, ticket sales, and sponsorship. This is a music festival clouting on culture.

The first time Sabaidee was going to happen it didn’t happened because they weren’t going to make profit so they canceled it. Until they realize that they can make profit off of Hmong artist and Hmong culture and not pay the Hmong anything, Sabaidee is back on.

    Priscilla,
You raised some valid points about the importance of community and shedding light on the situation with Sabaideefest. It's commendable that Salong has created a platform to emphasize the Laos, Hmong, Cambodian, and other Southeast Asian communities.
A significant issue within the Southeast Asian community is the internalized hatred towards each other. When someone does something positive, there's often a snarky comment that follows. This mentality has been ingrained in our childhood and society, leading us to feel as though we're owed something. We can't change people's negative thoughts and feelings, as they often project their own insecurities. Change must come from within.
Regarding the artist who complained on TikTok about not being paid, that was unnecessary. It was his responsibility to sort out the contract details beforehand. Beggars can't be choosers. Although Salong has just started Sabaideefest, he can learn from his mistakes and improve the festival. He should implement contracts for all performers and ensure that those filling in are paid fairly for their time and efforts.
We create divisions within our groups, leading to a lack of inclusiveness. Everyone wants to be celebrated. To foster a true sense of community, we must include everyone, providing equal pay and recognition, rather than celebrating one race over another. Many Asians don't support each other and instead exhibit envy and entitlement, gossiping about those who are doing good work. It's disheartening to see influencers who claim to promote community and inclusiveness, yet act superior and aloof in person, experiencing an identity crisis. Instead of complaining on social media for attention, we should focus on genuine support and unity.

As you mentioned, Priscilla raised some valid points which I believe you did as well. However, this short statement here " He (Salong) should implement contracts for all performers and ensure that those filling in are paid fairly for their time and efforts". I'm sure he's willing to listen and learn from it. However, that one Artist "Asked" to be in the lineup and he "Agreed" to perform for "Free" but yet he turned around and blasted them out. I watched his entire 22+ mins vid and all I needed to hear was the first few words which he clearly stated that he'll do it for free. What I didn't know was they accommodated his request even though they had the full line up already. I read so many comments on his vid, it tells me how much his statements negatively influenced many of those people's brains and how they disregarded the statement "He agreed to perform for FREE"...Some of our Asian people are SMH!!! LOL

I mean if you’re not satisfied with it then don’t go or perform. Simple as that. I mean imagine if there’s no more sabaidee people will be wanting them to do it 😂😂😂😂😂. Or if you’re people like me I just stay home and watch everyone’s complaint on TH-cam lol. Wish the best for everyone

Beggars don’t get to choose. Sabaidee need to be careful of who they allow to help, some SEA group is just a hater and still have the jungle mentality. Just focus on the Laos/Thai and Hmong/Mien tribes from the 2 countries.
