  • After five hours at Limbus Company, I can say that I'm having fun. The character interactions are very amusing. The final part is a dungeon focussed around Gregor, one of the 12 Sinners.
    And... I don't get it.
Okay, I did get the idea of the story.
Gregor is a war veteran, one of many who were raised since birth and augmented with bug parts to fight in the war. He somehow manage to be a war icon, but he never wanted any of it. So at the first chance he got, he left to live a normal life.
But normal life isn't what's in store for him. He had traumatic dreams and PTSD. The story is made so that he is forced to face his past trauma in the form of the hallucination from the war. The moment he decides he can't run forever, the hallucination ends.
In the B story, we got Yuri. A former employee of Lobotomy Corp. There was a parallel here between Gregor and Yuri, which is survivor's guilt. Yuri was forced to watch her friends die when the containment was breached. The journey to this dungeon was a trip down memory lane for her.
With some pep talk from Gregor, she eventually manages to move on with her life and accept that the tragedy was never her fault. That every employee of L. Corp knows the risk of death.
Now, the part that I don't get is the ending. So Yuri just charged into the monster and unceremoniously got eaten. Everyone just stood by as another bad guy faction claimed the McGuffin. Then the story ends.
My question is... What's the point of killing Yuri like that? The story spent so much time building her up and she died doing nothing for no reason.
What is the story trying to say here? That everything is meaningless? No matter what you do, you'll never escape fate?
Is this how the story is going to be at all times? Just randomly killing NPC characters to score sad points?

Funnily enough, I feel like that's what the first Canto wanted the player to experience, at least how you described it with your first three gameplay runs. Dante is just as lost/confused in the plot, setting and especially the goals of the characters. Most questions can't be answered at the start, and back then for me, that made me interested to find out. The tone of the setting so far in this part is really just, really hopeless, just death everywhere, and so casually too. I do think that this format of story is fitting, because the game is stuck with the same characters most of the time, compared to other gacha games that have a wide array of characters that will come and go.
It's very nice to see a different perspective of someone's thoughts starting out.

Yeah, I can definitely see how you're supposed to be overwhelmed as an amnesiac protagonist.
My problem with it is really the matter of execution. I think the game would be a lot better if Dante has at least one sympathetic character to ground himself in. A character he could trust to exchange ideas with. That's usually how they do this trope anyway, like Arknights with Amiya.
I tottaly get they want to do grimdark world, but I think they went overboard. I think they could've handled Yuri's death better to make a statement, and have the characters properly react to her death.
I also think they could structure the story better. I feel like this Canto about Gregor doesn't really develop his character. It just tells us who he was, but not how he changed.
I don't know if I want to continue this game, tbh. I think I'll shelve it for now.

@@FeyHunt2 A purely sympathetic character would probably be out of line in how the game's setting, same with Yuri's death. At the start your sinners are already killing each other, I feel like for me, that set the tone for me immediately.
It's probably better to shelve it though lol since I do agree it's kind of a hit or miss, especially with my friends xd

@@zdkshinxi Oh absolutely! I think even they don't want to be around each other. Though, they quickly mellowed out once they're on the job.
Though, to me, that scene feels very childish. They're like teenagers who knows they can get away with everything. Meanwhile daddy Dante is sighing with disappointment 😄😄
And honestly? That part is my favorite in the first Canto. Character interactions are my thing.

A real shame that you are droping this game already

@@AfrikanSnipur Yeah, I don't see the reason to stay for long. It really comes down to the writing style that icks me, especially the over-indulgence of grimdark tropes like killing characters for no reason whatsoever.
Also, as some people pointed out, it seems that this game is made for those already a fan of Project Moon. It's really not trying to ease up new players into the franchise.
If you like the game, then please feel free to keep playing it. I have no right to insult personal preferences. But I don't think this game is for me.

@@FeyHunt2 you don't need to play other games before playing limbus it's just takes little time to get used too it definitely helps if you have knowledge and like previous games/story
Canto 1 is too short and used to be a tutorial so the info dump is a little too much and Yuri's death is stupid getting off screened by apple
The story is a slow burn I guess I have seen so many new players streaming the game for the first time getting confused but pushing through and loving it afterwards

@@AfrikanSnipur I see. In that case, I would be willing to try it again sometime in the future. I just need time to get rid of the bitter taste first 😄😄
Grimdark is a hard trope to get right, so I can excuse them if they really starting out not fully understanding how to do it well.

@@AfrikanSnipur Haha, it might be for a while, then.
If I release it right now, I may just criticize what it's doing wrong with grimdark on Canto 1, so I don't think that's interesting enough.
