The experience we gained Wasp Busting when we were in our early teens paid off!!! Of course when we did it, we just hit the nest with a baseball bat, ran, and got stung like crazy.
I used to come in contact with all the time digging into AC units on roofs. I did HVAC for 20 years and only got stung once. Building trails for the last 3 years now and I have been stung over 20 times. Thank God, I haven't been stung on the head or neck. I hope I didn't jinx myself just now. I can only imagine what those stings felt like when you were young. Ouch!
Man I hate those ground wasps or whatever you call them. The way I got rid of mine in the backyard when I went out to move some ham radio antenna aluminum and they started swarming & stinging me - I had no idea that something like that even existed - and found out they'd made a huge nest in the back corner of the backyard. I ended up pouring some gasoline down the hole after sunset when they were basically sleeping and then lit it & felt the ground under me go *_thump!_* - then I took the garden hose and let water run for an hour down the hole. No more evil flying poison needles!
They love to ambush people when they mess with their nests. That's how I've been getting hit so hard. I want to try the gas trick, but I'm terrified of starting a forest fire. We are trying some boric acid now. Hopefully, it will work. I guess you put it in something sweet or some kind of bait. They end up bringing back the acid, and it kills the hive.
@@mtbingadventures1551 with the amount of times you've been stung, you'd probably know by now if your body's reaction was concerning or worsening. With bee stings you get the whole payload of venom, but wasps can keep stinging so it's possible to get enough to have a reaction almost idential to bee stings.
@@Flyingcow2021 I tried looking up on the internet to see if wasps stings will worsen with each sting. I haven't been able to get a good answer yet.I will definitely keep this in mind because this could become very concerning since I'm out on my own a lot and deep in the woods. Most of the stings just hurt and very little swelling has occurred. The ones on my hand did the most swelling. The ones on my leg didn't hardly swell at all. My foot swelled up after taking at least three stings on my ankle.
The big nasty looking bug is a Jerusalem cricket or potato bug they are good for the soil and harmless unless you get bitten it hurts! I have been told they are slightly venomous. I hate wasps!

Those mars bugs are Jerusalem cricket's. We called them Potatoes bugs growing up. They' will bite you but it isn't poisonous.
They definitely look like they pack a mean bite.

@@mtbingadventures1551gas works great and it’s not necessary to light it. Pour it in late evening or early morning and YJ’s will die or leave the nest

Keep an epi-pen on hand. You may not have had any severe reaction thus far, but reactions can worsen as you continue to be exposed to the venom.
I think that's with bees. I don't think that happens with wasps.

I've seen a few of them now. Very rarely do I see one just cruising around on the ground. Very interesting little bug. I hope to see more of them.
