  • This video is my compilation of the highlights of scuba diving in Utila, the smallest of the Honduras' major Bay Islands, a region that marks the south end of the Great Mayan Reef.
More than eighty diving sites are located around the island, all of which are teeming with marine life. This video introduces some of the best including: turtles, rays, frog fish, eels, tiny nudi branch and the elusive whale shark.
This video was created with Premier Pro and shot using:
    - LX100 4K video with Ikelite housing
    - 2x Light and Motion sola 3000 video lights
    - WD4 wide angle dome

Great vid and these shots + color adjustments all turned out incredible. Also really enjoyed the pacing and how well you curated the shots. Doing some research into a trip here and this was perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I have two new pieces coming soon - Philippines macro wildlife just off the beach, and I’ve just returned from an expedition with Rocio Del Mar onboard the Quino El Guardin research vessel, taking pictures and video of the incredible life of the Sea of Cortez - or as Jacques Cousteau called it - “The worlds aquarium”. Subscribe and keep your eye out for the new material uploading soon! :)

+puncho22 hmm such a big question. I use Premier Pro. I start by cutting down all my footage into the best moments. I then look trough them all and try to think of a nice order to tell the story. At the same time as this in trying to find music that fits. Once I have the music and an idea of order I start cutting clips to fit the music, this is very important to me. I love making the video sound sharp. In terms of editing I correct the white balance if needed and apply any color/contract corrections, and also use stabilization tools. Once I've done this the hardest part is going back and reviewing the sequence and making things go together right which each other and the music. Sometimes you think it's logical for it to go one way but you change it randomly and it just sits better. Does that make sense? I know it's very generic. Just remember the initial footage and especially lighting for underwater videography is the most important. There is only so much you can enhance or edit! 😀

Hope this doesn't come across as rude since you didn't exactly ask for it, but if you're looking for some constructive feedback I really didn't like the music choice here. Great song, but I didn't find such a fast paced song fitted with any of the footage. Some great shots though, incredible vibrancy in some of the macro work! Can I ask how many dives it took you to catch that whale shark sighting?

Hey Luke, that's an interesting point. It's always tricky trying to chose the tone or feel of a sequence. This video was created as an action montage (kind of like the gopro ads) but with some more serene moments throughout to break it up - ie at 55 seconds. I find you either have to have longer footage and keep it calm, or break up the clips more and have it faster pace, otherwise I find myself getting bored. I take your point though, can you comment with another video that you prefer in terms of music choice? Thanks for the feedback though, positive and constructive :) The whale sharks were snorkeling expeditions in between dives to be honest, you will rarely dive with a whale shark in Utila.
