Professor Sachs is a rare and exceptional human being that the world and in particular American leaders need to listen to. Professor Sachs summation and course of action is the only sane and sensible course. The Washington war mongers need to pull the heads in and do what is right for humanity. Not there war machines or misguided egos if they want humanity to survive.

The problem in the United States is that there is no government that decides. Those who decide are the military-industrial complex. Now that the Afghanistan war is over, they must have a new war for their weapons. It is completely inconceivable that the United States in 2022 will not get better.
Had Zelensky been able to implement the Minsk Agreement for the United States, which they approved in 2015, the war would never have started. But that is when big business money is more important than human life.I have listened to Jeffrey several times before because he seems sensible and I have many other Americans on my favorite list, but the power in Washington is regardless of government in the hands of the military-industrial complex that is now looking for replacements for Afghanistan and Iraq.

Putin is massacring Ukrainians, but the US is to blame?
In that case I know another one: how about Germany being responsible for Putin's war, by daily financing its war machine. Germany is after all the key importer of Russian fuels and has permanently closed its eyes with its 'Ost'politics

    • @lassel1344
      @lassel1344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Ed-bq4rpEd, I do not blame everything on the United States, but the United States held the gun while Russia pressed the trigger.
From the beginning, both Germany and France wanted Ukraine to be neutral like several other countries in Europe.
Why did Zelendsy not want to follow the Minsk Agreement that Ukraine approved in 2015? If he had done that, there would probably not have been a war. Zelndsky won the 2019 election, likely because he would negotiate and end the war in the Donbas. Why nothing has happened during these past years? Biden also did not want to call Putin's card, Biden could have promised that NATO in Ukraine will not happen, just to see Putin's reaction. All indications are that the war was planned and that the military-industrial complex was behind it. Nordsteam 2 would never be approved and then the EU would need to buy LNG and new weapons from the United States. The world does not need more weapons, it needs leaders who can compromise and agree as JFK and Khrushchev did in 1962. Cuba is still not part of any military alliance.

When a country’s poltical parties are so polarised as they have been in the last few year, a politician’s supposed objective to act in their constituents best interest goes out the window but rather to criticise on the other side even If what the otherside makes sense and said it first. Many government’s principal objective now to secure votes in elections and maintain control in legislature, and for the US, war makes people happy as they pretend to be saviours of the world as they don’t feel the pressure on themselves. It’s like lighting a fire and watching it burn and consume and kill whilst they enjoy the show.

What they fear is a united defensive NATO collaboration against autocratic governments extending corruption unto neighboring NATO countries.

from the Ukraine tragedy. Leaders of the US, UK and Nato together with leaders of the countries in the Western Alliance never learnt from their past of bringing 2 world wars.
Today we find that suddenly we, the hoi-polloi of Britain
and Europe might be on the brink of extinction though the war mongering oligarchies and their govts have their 5 star bunkers to support them decades longer than US. All of us will immediately turn into plutonium dust... I m sure talks of this nature, given by well informed, non-partisan but honest and just individuals and groups must mushroom quickly so we can help bring a pause, cool down the heat and persuade the warring parties that our lives, the 90% of humanity, our sophisticated world and our planet earth is worth saving. I guesd it'll take millions more talks and strong actions before they 'll get war fatigued and pause to negotiate, if at all.

Unfortunately the walk backs the USA and the EU have to make is far too humiliating for that to happen. Putin and Russia will not relinquish territories won and with the 30 year history of non-compliance to negotiated Russian-US/EU agreements, Russia is right to do so. The only expansionist parties today seen to be the USA and the EU. The NATO or proposed "global NATO" is nothing more than expansionism under another name. Russia and China are far too busy and prooccupied trying to lift the standards of living including the security of its people to think about expansionism. Their relative self-sufficiency indicated by their relative low external debt levels attests to that. They've little motivation to adopt expansionist agendas. Taiwan has been recognised as an unrelinquished rogue breakaway province of China since after WWII and the civil War that ensued. In fact for decades the Taiwan-based Chinese Nationalist Party laid claim to be the legitimate government of all of China! Taiwan reintegration into China is a non-negotiation issue.

Thank you for your integrity and the principles you stand for, something scarce nowadays in our Western institutions. Fortunately, people like you, Professors Noam Chomsky, John Mearsheimer, Stephen Walt, Ilan Pappé, Shlomo Sand aren’t afraid to speak out and be on the side of what is right and morally acceptable.

I agree wholeheartedly with Prof. Sachs. If a peace treaty is to be signed where Ukraine will not join Nato n will be a neutral country n Eastern Ukraine will be given autonomy or even allowed to be independent countries, n if Russia withdraws its military completely, then what is stopping a peace treaty from being signed. Why go on fighting. Does the US need to approve?

Respected this guy's commentary up to the inclusion of climate. It really does baffle me how these people are allowed to push climate alarmism so blatantly when there is no evidence at all of there being a problem and CO2 is clearly not a large factor in the natural changes that have always occured. If any culprit for any warming is to be acknowledged look at the water vapour increase due to agriculture now that is a ghg that can be proven to effect change....

    Food for oil
In 1992, Putin was investigated for a deal he oversaw while an official in the mayor’s office. The deal involved the export of $100m worth of raw materials in exchange for food for the citizens of St Petersburg. The materials were exported, but the food never arrived.
Marine Salye was put in charge of a city council investigation into the deal, and fastidiously kept the documents from that time.
Papers granting export permits to companies involved in the deal appear to show Putin’s signature.
Salye told Bureau reporters working for Al Jazeera’s People and Power: ‘The raw materials were shipped abroad but the food didn’t materialise. There’s 100% proof that in this Putin was to blame. As a result in 1992 - when there was no food at all - the city was left with nothing. The evidence I have is as solid as it gets.’
Salye continued: ‘We also found out that Putin - well, his committee - made bartering contacts to get food for the city. He issued licences. And commodities - wood, metal, cotton, heating oil, and oil - flew out of the country.’
The investigation at the time did not turn up any evidence that Putin had personally benefited from the deal.
The Kremlin denies Putin ever signed the documents.
Salye died of natural causes weeks after talking to the Bureau.
    Twentieth Trust
Putin moved on from the oil for food scandal, rising through the ranks and being elected president in 2000, after serving in the role for several months following the resignation of Boris Yeltsin.
Despite his rise, rumours continued to bug the politician.
In June 1999, as Putin prepared for the role of first deputy prime minister, a criminal case was opened looking into his past.
Lt. Col. Andrei Zykov, a former senior investigator at the Russian Interior Ministry, was put in charge of criminal case number 144 128.
Zykov was given the task of investigating a construction company, Twentieth Trust. Officials suspected the company had been used to siphon money from St Petersburg’s city budget in the early 1990s, when Putin worked in the city office.
The company continued to receive government funding despite being in debt.
Zykov told the Bureau, ‘The question was, why? A corporation shouldn’t receive any public money if it is in debt. But it was getting more and more funding. The answer is they were bribing the St Petersburg mayor’s office.’
Unlike Salye’s investigation, Zykov feels Putin did personally benefit from the scheme.
He alleges: ‘We investigated and found out that the Twentieth Trust corporation built a house for Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin on the shores of Lake Komsomolskoye, as well as a villa in Spain,’ said Zykov. Putin’s dacha compound on the banks of the lake was set up by Putin and colleagues in 1996.
However, in 2000, Russia’s prosecutor general shut the investigation down on the grounds of ‘insufficient proof’. Zykov was fired a year and half later.
We asked the Kremlin to respond to Zykov’s claims. It declined to do so.
Sign up for email alerts from the Bureau here.

Washington/Wall Street corporate regime's military complex are extremely successful at creating hugely profitable markets for their exorbitantly overpriced underperforming products. They sold over $1trillion ($1,000,000,000) worth of weapons to Western Europe/NATO countries. Expanding NATO, waging proxy wars is not only very good for business it is essential for the survival of these golden goose corporations. Hence, the endless wars being waged all over the world by their beneficiaries in Washington. Of course this is not the only source of great wealth from war mongering, there is even more to be made from the plundering of targeted/occupied countries that resist having their assets plundered. This is the bedrock of American global monopoly corporate business, the plunder of the world's wealth for the chosen few mega rich.
