Ren is seriously the best artist of our generation. You haven’t scratched the surface! He is incredibly talented. Rapping better than any other rapper Iv heard, singing in a million different styles and his range is insane! (Here in the U.K. we have a massive Jamaican influence therefore Reggae and Ska are big over here) making his own beats, producing, amazing lyricist, poet, bard, beatbox, multi instrumentalist (also bare in mine Ren is self taught too! He learned guitar by slowing down videos of John Frusciante and Jimi Hendrix. He spent so many years bed ridden and when he felt well enough music is what he did. Ren IS music) fantastic at scatting and more, all while spending 5 days a week in hospital and having spent 13 years of his life incredibly sick! Every member of the big push are insane! They are extremely tight, no matter whether an original or cover they’re fantastic, everytime they play similar mashups they’re completely different, they never play the same thing twice. Romain Axisa - black guitar and vocals, plays all guitars and more Gorran Kendall - plays all guitars and vocals Glenn Chambers - drums Songs : Bob Marley - I shot the sheriff Damien Marley - Road to Zion DJ Luck & MC Neat - little bit of luck Hiphop - Dead Prez.
I knew someone had to bring this up. It’s from this same busking session. It’s a great mashup and shows more of this relatively unknown band’s diversity.
@sstaners1234 can I recommend the following Wade in the water/ Nina Simone/ trouble so hard Englishman in New York Swan song (original song) Why my woman (original song) Watch out (original song - same performance as this I shot the sheriff) War pigs (same performance as this one) Paint it black (same performance as this one) Sweet little lady (original song - studio and live are both great and different) There’s tons more but they’re definitely most people’s favourites 🖤
I agree with the others on War of Pigs and Paint it Black (also mash ups). Wade in the Water the group does a really good job signaling and communicating to each other and its dope
Came to say the same: You just _have_ to do it. And no, of course you don't have to... but still yo _do_ 😂 I'll tell you why.. Why?! Just because I want - I want to see you listening to it - and hear your thoughts of it 😁❤
Oh man, that was a joy to watch. I really like this performance too! That's what music is all about and the whole thing as a street performance with people singing and swinging and dancing and just having a wonderful time all together. So do the musicians and they do it fantastically! It takes you away and it was nice to see how it took you away too. Great score and reaction David!🖤
Oh yes, David, dig into this The Big Push catalog, they also have original songs. You've got a lot of great suggestions for reactions above. We all Renegades are here for it😁
Fantastic reaction and review David. It is always good to get a musician's view on these performances. There are a number of other videos from this session out there; the War Pigs mashup which immediately followed, Paint it Black, where Ren plays bass and Goran the bass player sings lead. Also "Watch Out" a Big Push original. All worth a look even if they are not reacted too.
I'm usually within a couple of tenths when guessing what your scores are gonna be. This was the furthest off 8ve been yet I think. I guessed you'd give it 8.5 or 8.7. But agree with everything you said!!! Fantastic performance. There are bands who couldn't do this as well as they did even in a studio setting with 100 takes. If their cover of Bongo Bong isn't on you list, it should he. That being said....I'm going to plead my case again, as I always do. Smashing pumpkins, ode to no one, live at the metro. please. Love your channel. Keep up the amazing reactions. As always, appreciate your honesty!!
Oh my gosh what a great reaction! I love how you get into the music and take the time to talk about each band member & instrument. I can’t wait for you to react to War Pigs! From this same busking session. It’s great. Also, please check out their original music! I like “Watch Out” from this same session. Wade in the Water is lovely too. Thanks for uploading! I’m eager to see you react to more of The Big Push.
I have to say it's always a treat whenever you are really enjoying a song or performance. Love to share in your pleasure! I know your backlog issues, glad some Ren is leaking in.
This is the first reaction ive seen of yours and good for you being you and reacting to this in a different way i enjoyed the reaction and review at the end. I love hearing the musical breakdown for a change. Unlike yourself I love lyrics and wordplay it just gives me something extra mixed in with music that I can feel. I like the difference and would rather a genuine original reaction than a copy and paste reaction that would be pointless. Ren is great at story telling so the trilogy tale of Jenny and Screech with Violets tale with acoustic guitar is about 13 minutes long 3 1 take live recordings. This might be an interesting challenge for you 😄 as its more bard core - i dare you 😆 Wade in the water live on streets of Brighton with the Big Push is amazing they all shine Ren plays amazing bass on this. All the band shine Romain on Guitar and Gorran also singing - enjoy. Happy vibes to you from UK 🎶🧡🔥👩🏻🦰
I am pretty ignorant when it comes to music, so I enjoyed your reaction because you took the time to properly explain what was happening. Thank you for that. 😊 I’m sorry some people were abusive when you reacted to “Hi Ren”; there is no excuse for that. (Cheshire, UK)
Busking on the streets of Brighton, UK is REN’s roots. That’s how he rose to fame. The Big Push band has some great live music. In this video, Ren is pay homage to vintage artists: Bob Marley, Damian Marley, DJ Luck/MC Neat(UK Garage sound), and Dead Prez, “Hip Hop”! Great reaction!
I SO MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR PATREON that suggested this! Thanks You! I am halfway through your reaction and LOVING the HELL out of IT! I have only recently started down the Ren rabbit hole and loving every minute of it! I have watched several reactions to this song (my fourth of Ren's that I have watched, so far) and I really love it, though I know he has tons more awesome songs! Thanks for doing this. 🙂❤
Ren is, imo, one of the most creative artist of the last few decades. This band was special and no longer together due to Ren seeking treatment for his Lyme’s disease. Everyone is a multi-instrumentalist, and their talent is undeniable. Worth checking out both The Big Push’s and Ren’s catalogue. Romain Axisa, the other guitar player, and Gorran Kendall, the bass player, also have some solo stuff floating around TH-cam. Keep in mind that Ren is self taught, produces his own music, directs his own videos, and is completely independent. He newest album “Sick Boi” reached #1 on the UK charts, which no other independent artist has accomplished.
I think "Hi Ren" is popular more for the message than the actual song. A lot of people can relate to that inner battle most have within themselves and there is a huge connection between him and his fans because of this. If you haven't had those inner battles then the song wont resonate with you (or anyone who hasn't had these experiences) Knowing his back story and all the things he's been through with illness while still making such connection musically is another reason that song hits so many deeply. Maybe give it another listen sometime and really listen to the message more than the music. Even if you don't make it a video just give it a listen on your own time. Great reaction to these guys. They are a great street band!
The whole point of Hi Ren was to point out that we all have these inner dialogues, that dark and light are in the World around us and are a both a constant. Both shape who we are and are part of who we are. It's not a mental health thing, it's a human thing. Ren himself has said that, even though he references his health, mental AND physical, the song is about the human condition generally. He also said that part of it was taking the piss out of himself and his musical pretensions. :)
Yes I concur you need to do the Big Push Black Sabbath mashup from this same street session. It’s incredible and will surely impress you! Love your channel!
After listening to this reaction, i figured i would check out the hi Ren reaction as well…. For the life of me i don’t understand why people were upset with you. I thought it was great to get a different perspective on the performance. And you gave it an 8.6. Do people think an 8.6 is trash??? I don’t get it. Overall, solid, informative reactions to both tracks. I give you bonus points for the Ramones shirt. Total score: 9.5 😆
Amazing reaction and break down, I really appreciate learning from such fantastic breakdowns for a novice like myself with regards to techniques of guitar/base/drums/tempo! Awesome thanks 😊 I wait in anticipation for warpigs mash up, and murderer (live). 😝😝😝 Before this reaction, I noticed Rens incredible yet subtle hand gestures/instructions of sudden tempo/change directions too! This one I never noticed the whole band interaction and utter compatability of each other, until you pointed it out perfectly! Just when I thought I couldn't enjoy this band and this busking sesh anymore than I do... ☺️🫶🇬🇧🫶
This is the first reaction of yours that I have watched,Ren lead me to you,it was interesting to hear you discuss, your reaction to Hi Ren,and the response to it by people in your comments section,I hope that this. Video goes some way to helping you understand why Rens fans are so sensitive!, still no excuse for disrespectful comments!
Well done Dave, first time watcher! IMHO, Ren has a chance at being better then them all, if he can stay healthy, Lyme disease robbed him of much of his energy!! He's got it all, he can write, he can play, he can sing, but above everything he can entertain. He's got this polished showmanship that just bursts upon the listener ears. They call it the "IT" factor, and he's got IT in spades. Your comments on how he gets into the song is spot on. The music seems to flow through his body at a tremendous amplification, almost unregulated at times. I've watched every live video by Ren & the big push, not a dud in the mix. Be sure to see Ren & Liv playing together in front of the upside down house, he absolutely rips it up on guitar, just spectacular.
Enjoyed your excellent reaction and music breakdown. Went back and re-watched your "Hi Ren" reaction and it was great too. Would love to see you react to more Ren or The Big Push.
Nice... i was hoping you did more Ren! Recommend: Englishman in New York, Praise You and Bongo Bong! Ren and the BP are great together!!! (To watch for your own entertainment... unless ya wanna record!?) PS. . THANKS ... Seriously Thank you for your videos! Very few reacrors Actually know whats up!!! Lol You're Needed to keep the fodder down!!!! To speak on Factual Musical this and thats!!! Happy Turkey Day to you and Yours!!!
Big Push does a fabulous busking cover of Wade in the Water, Nina Simone. Soooo good! Great guitar too. Very bluesy. You takes about body language when playing. Ren put his whole body, heart, and soul into it.
I can’t believe how much hate reactors get if people don’t like what they had to say. I personally appreciate the honesty and there are many reactors out there that are fake.
Welcome Down the Ren Rabbit hole. I'm Glad you've gone back to his band The Big Push. Plus he has done calibrations with Sam Tompkins. Chinchilla. Liv Sangster. Eden Nash. All top Artists in their own Right. Enjoy my Friend. From across the Pond.
Anybody that has watched your channel before should already know that you're a "music" guy, not a "lyric" guy. And for many of us, that's why we watch you! For the others, they should get with the program. Ren - Hi Ren is very much a lyric song/performance, I knew that before you reacted, so I didn't expect a huge lyrical analysis to begin with. I figured you'd look at his guitar playing, maybe pick up on it being a live performance, maybe even catch the flickering lights- but not an analysis of lyrics.
Like your open honest direct approach to reaction 👌👏👏👏. Ren is so multi talented he is a lyricist and eloquently delivers, all his own work. The big push good mix of talent and some great music. ✌️🏴.
1oo% agree. For me, without profesional knowledge but still some knowledge, I m glad you like them, couse they are great specially Ren s voice , also amazing gitarist .Appreciate this review.Analysis and knowledge your explanation hey helped in mine experience of it.The big push are awsome. Nice.
Dude, you really got to do _"War Pigs"_ from the same set, you'd love it. They rock it so hard it should be illegal. And let's not forget, these are busking sets... they just set up in a side-street and he's shutting down the city centre : ) For me, the War Pigs segment buries this.
Theres nothing more infuriating then watching someone focus on lyrics of a song and being unaware of anything else happening, thats why this channel is so refreshing
They’re technically on hiatus due to Rens health/treatment and Romain/Gorrans solo careers but Ren and Romain at least are up for playing together again so we can only hope 🖤
I believe your style and approach; which suits your appreciation for certain aspects of music, will lead you to enjoy more music from The Big Push, both their covers and original music. If I were to recommend a couple of my favorites it would be: 1) What Kind of Woman Is This (by Buddy Guy) which is 🔥but often overlooked by many reactors. 2) Praise You (cover Fat Boy Slim).😎✌
Spot on, sir! Spot on! Thanks a lot! Oh how I wish you'd react to Ren and Sam Tompkins doing Blind eyed. You've got one of TH-cams best ear as far as I'm concerned, so that would be a fucking treat! Much love From STHLM, Sweden Edit: oh, and better still! Do the Nina Simone mash up, also by the Big Push, where I'm pretty sure what Ren does to the bass might be illegal in several countries. Peace! ✌️
I'm not sure which Ren song/performance you watched last time but lyrics are central to most of Ren's songs, even in his more lighthearted and upbeat tracks. That could be why people were saying you should listen to the lyrics. :) Ren's a master wordsmith. He's a poet really and a bloody good poet at that! I'm not going to tell you how to listen, that's entirely your own prerogative, though I have to point out that you'll be missing out on one of the core aspects of what makes Ren great. :)
Watch the original Hip Hop by Dead Prez. It was the last part of their match up. Fun, not a full band, but two hip hop artists with a lot of passion and rhythm.
Knowing your love for live performances where bands just get ALL the way into it, the great score was expected. I'm the same way. And yes, EACH member played/made 100% of the right choices for this mash-up. Totally fitting. And this video is a pretty righteous representation of Ren's musical versatility.
Lets go... im a Ren fan... but i also enjoyed your take! I mean... I clicked on Your video... to see Your reaction! I mean... lol How hard is it... watch.... listen... take it or leave it! Other than that... SHUT THE EFF UPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol
"Hi Ren" got me into Ren but that track is 5% of him. He bounces all over the place and maybe that's why you got poo poo'd by some of his "hardcore" fans that know what he's capable of but to be honest those fans shouldn't be arbituors or a representation of the fanbase. Ren can cover go many genres in single song. He's quite prolific and has a massive list of influences that he freely talks about during interviews. You should check those out. He genuinely loves music, regardless of genre and it shows and heard. As a musician myself for over 20 years he amazes me. His way of just bending sound to his will. Give him a good go. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Some tracks are rap rap while others are rock rock while others are rap rock raggea mixed in with swing. He's also a brilliant storyteller and that's what he says drives him to write and perform. To tell a story. We need more artists like this.
That’s terrible people insulted you. I honestly thought Ren fans were nice. That’s disappointing. You’re absolutely entitled to your opinions. As a Ren fan, I would encourage you to give Ren another shot (which you pretty much are right now)…regardless, he does have a lot to offer. He’s very diverse in his talent. (Also, I already hit the like because I like your approach…gonna watch you react now. Much love from Rochester NY ❤
Sorry that some fans went over the top commenting on your other Ren reaction. It's a highly protective fan base, but for the most part, it's also a very respectful group. Outliers...
Have you reacted to the infamous Prince solo during the George Harrison tribute with a ton of other musicians…Tom Petty etc. It’s a giant cover of Harrison’s “When My Guitar Gently Weeps”. Id love to hear you react to that considering your focus and appreciation for talent. I hope you consider it. Btw, from what I understand Ren is completely self taught he knows singing, rapping, guitar and piano. He says he learned it off of TH-cam lol!!! Obviously, he’s naturally gifted and that had to help when learning. I subscribed!!! Loved you. Thank you for staying true to who you are…you laid out perfectly where your interests and aptitude lies. My husband is so similar to you in terms of lyrics..they don’t really interest him.
Unfortunately, lyrics are a big part of Ren’s artistry. I think whoever commented rudely felt you were disrespectful of Ren. I have listened to your analysis before with other artists/musicians so I know you focus on the music and the musical performances. I would suggest the mashup starting with War Pigs which happens to be next in the set list in this (red suspenders) busking performance. Thank you for your review and analysis.
The other guitar player and the bassist are also excellent singers with their own followers and albums, and not quite Floor range on their voices but definitely Marco level range altho they can sing higher than him but not as low as him
Hi David feeelin' you! You know that I really like your reactions, but I didn't like your Hi Ren reaction. What I was expecting, as Hi Ren is a pure lyric driven piece of performance art where the music serves the lyrics. I something similar for "The Tale of Jenny and Screetch". But that's OK. Am I disappointed? Or even angry? No! Why should I be? I was pretty sure that this piece here would be right up your alley and it was 🙂 All the busking stuff of Ren is fantastic! I am curious what you'd think of Rens rapping stuff, like "The Hunger". Greetings from Germany
Unsolicited Advice Warning! Listening to original songs before reacting to covers isn't a bad idea. Hiphop would have been a hassle here, but if you pulled up Road to Zion you may have had even more insight into the transitions. Not that you need to - your reactions are gold no matter what. Something similar might help with reacting to Rens' work: Reading the lyrics beforehand. Seperate from the issue of haters, a lot of Ren's best work is music that delivers on meaning, message, and substance. You can use it for context for analyzing the music - no lyrical analysis needed. If not, you can quickly acknowledge those themes and move on. If nothing else, it'll do even more to distinguish you from people reacting to the lyrics. Or just.... don't. As positive as most of the Renagades may be, anyone talking out their ass to insult you can leave, and the rest of us will deal. You're still kicking ass no matter what. Peace!
But if you know this reactor at all you know that 10 almost NEVER happens. Think of it in terms of test scores... a 9.2 (92%) is outstanding, and most students ever would be happy enough with that. And if you know this reactor, you know that this was a REALLY good score.
Whatever you do, do not react to Black Sabbath War Pigs mash up they did after this, it is a total piss take of music....i think the main guy is from Newport in Wales,
Ren is seriously the best artist of our generation. You haven’t scratched the surface! He is incredibly talented. DJ Luck & MC Neat - little bit of luck
Hiphop - Dead Prez.
Waiting for someone to get you to do THE BIG PUSH - WAR PIGS (black sabbath cover) it's a Mashup also...
YESSS or Wade in the Water
Or paint it black there just jamming on that one having a blast 🔥
I knew someone had to bring this up. It’s from this same busking session. It’s a great mashup and shows more of this relatively unknown band’s diversity.
👏 👏👏👏👏👏well said. For Playing Live with sub standard equipment…an additional 0.8 score added to make this performance Drum Roll…… ❤
It also is a nice little surprise (that it's a mashup)... for those who didn't know. Well, WAS a surprise. 😮
Absolutely love your personality and knowledge you explain so clearly
First time hearing The Big Push and to be honest it was awesome. I’m definitely gonna check these guys out. 👍
You won’t regret it! Anything Ren and/or The Big Push do are incredible. Romain and Gorran have solo careers too. 🖤
Yes, enjoy the journey 😊
@sstaners1234 can I recommend the following
Wade in the water/ Nina Simone/ trouble so hard
Englishman in New York
Swan song (original song)
Why my woman (original song)
Watch out (original song - same performance as this I shot the sheriff)
War pigs (same performance as this one)
Paint it black (same performance as this one)
Sweet little lady (original song - studio and live are both great and different)
There’s tons more but they’re definitely most people’s favourites 🖤
Enjoy serious fun journey
@@TobiiRheaStarr +1 for "War Pigs" ... it's from the same busking set and it's immense. They rock it so hard it should be illegal : ))
I agree with the others on War of Pigs and Paint it Black (also mash ups). Wade in the Water the group does a really good job signaling and communicating to each other and its dope
I think you would really dig their cover of war pigs from this same performance (ren in red suspenders). Its awesome! 😊💜💜
Another mashup and utterly brilliant

Welcome Down the Ren Rabbit hole. I'm Glad you've gone back to his band The Big Push. Plus he has done calibrations with Sam Tompkins. Chinchilla. Liv Sangster. Eden Nash. All top Artists in their own Right. Enjoy my Friend. From across the Pond.
Great reaction on the band. Thanks 🎉
✌️🏴.
I have to say I enjoyed listening to that one. Not exactly my cup of tea, but something I did like hearing.
It was fun watching Ren and The Big Push impress you. 🙂
Now I wonder which other performances you gave 9.2 to.
Love your breakdowns, this was an awesome medley
Theres nothing more infuriating then watching someone focus on lyrics of a song and being unaware of anything else happening, thats why this channel is so refreshing
Did i miss a reaction to War Pigs? Great reaction to I shot the sheriff. Ren is so breathtaking.
マッシュアップに非常にセンスのあるこのバンドが好きでしたが、まさか解散するとは…特に好きなライブを批評してくれてありがとう😊
They’re technically on hiatus due to Rens health/treatment and Romain/Gorrans solo careers but Ren and Romain at least are up for playing together again so we can only hope 🖤
Bob Marley, Damian Marley, Bugzy Malone DJ Luck (bit of that), Dead Prez (hip hop) Awesome ❤🎉
I knew you would appreciate this.
Much love
From STHLM, Sweden
Edit: oh, and better still!
Great reaction
Their covers of praise you, englishman in new york anf war pigs should be up your alley if its instrumental and sounds over lyrics.
Loved you're review. Peace man.
🤘 Nothing more needed 🤘
I know what you mean about Romain’s solo. Fairly simple but played with passion, fits the medley perfectly
Glad you gave Ren a second chance
Great reaction. I wish you’d check Paint it Black by the Big Push and also What kind of woman is this by them too
Lets go... im a Ren fan... but i also enjoyed your take! I mean... I clicked on Your video... to see Your reaction! I mean... lol
How hard is it... watch.... listen... take it or leave it!
I knew it'd be in 9's
Outliers...
LESSS GOOO
I'm pretty sure I reacted to that performance of My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Great
Definitely react to War pigs cover. It's brilliant ❤
And sympathy for the devil cover ❤
Some one should suggest war pigs and paint it black covers by the big push
👍
Unfortunately, lyrics are a big part of Ren’s artistry. I think whoever commented rudely felt you were disrespectful of Ren. I have listened to your analysis before with other artists/musicians so I know you focus on the music and the musical performances.
I would suggest the mashup starting with War Pigs which happens to be next in the set list in this (red suspenders) busking performance. Thank you for your review and analysis.
i feel you....i understand charakters...but not sentense ;-)
The road to zion is by bob Marleys son Damian marley and the song hip hop is by the band dead prez
-
The Score From Me Was A 9 . 9 however I
Can N O T Be Trusted . I ' m A Biased
- R E N - E g a d e ! ! !
Ren❤❤❤❤
Ren fans can be vicious.
Definitely SKA
Hip hop by the dead prez
Watch them do What Kind of Woman Is This 😁
6:03
The tale of Jenny and screech and violets tale are absolutely 🔥, ren is the modern day bard, all 3 are live as well
hip hop is a song by dead prez
By your admission of never listening to lyrics, would reason not dictate that you stick to instrumentals so as not to disrespect artists works?
0.8 too low huh
Peace!
A 10 wouldn’t have been a fair score for this. Opinions are like….you know the rest.
But if you know this reactor at all you know that 10 almost NEVER happens. Think of it in terms of test scores... a 9.2 (92%) is outstanding, and most students ever would be happy enough with that.
And if you know this reactor, you know that this was a REALLY good score.
Whatever you do, do not react to Black Sabbath War Pigs mash up they did after this, it is a total piss take of music....i think the main guy is from Newport in Wales,
I love your channel, but this time you not right, Ren is poet like Bob Dilan, theres no lot of mussic to comment 🙏
Ren didn't write these lyrics
