I've been entering contests and exhibits lately, and trying to pick which photos are right for the entries have been interesting to me. Only because most of my picks have been turning towards BW again. I got in a color phase, but always see myself coming back to BW because I think that's where my heart is.

I think BW is quite specific to certain shots, architecture, portraits etc it has a unique place in photography, hope you do well in those contests!

I've been thinking about this lately. I'm practicing street photography, but where I live colours are very muted. The sky's always plain and gloomy, houses are all in the same tonal range. It's very depressing if I may say so myself 😂 but in Black and White, that's no longer an issue.
I also hear shooting in B&W helps practicing for composition, values, frames. I will definitely give it a go.

I was just telling myself i need to challenge myself to shoot b&w because I never really felt the need to but this helps a lot thank you!

good tips! I've noticed that calibration also effects the way Lightroom interprets B&W

I honestly learned a lot from this! Also I think doing BW can get you more creative since you are focusing more on the subject, the lightning and so on. Great video!

I do love a good black and white image, reminding me of the old photographs, but which is generally best ... B&W mode in camera, or shoot colour and alter in post-production? You can probably get more control outside the camera?

I shoot in Monochrome and when i start to edit i have the colour still in the image in 1 version a black and white image in another which gives you options when editing

i just turn my photos b&w when theyre inside and the light is horribly yellow or just a stiuation where the colors are off and you cant save it with editing

right - just trying to show the ways and reasons why you could intentionally utilize black and white in your edits 👍

Why not shoot b&w from the beginning and less time on a computer. The spur of the moment

because wee were shooting raw on a digital camera.

"The photo being in black and white strips away any distractions.."
Yeah except for the freaking LIGHTNING BOLT across her face! That is probably the WORST photo you could have picked to support your point lol love you guys ♥

Never add "grain " to a photo. That is an amateurish stunt.
