After leaving job the said individual completed his MBA HR from central University of Himachal by securing first rank with gold medal and has been posted as Shipping executive.
Exactly brother gone are the old days where people can stay away from family throughout the life now days each person wants to spend their Tym with beloved ones ..only a sailor knows how painful it is to leave the family and stay away for months from them.

Life onboard is becoming like some convent school hostel life. There are restrictions for every thing & it's getting worst. In the old days people were more disciplined and apart from being trained for the the job were also mentally prepared for the hardships and discipline onboard. When the Govt opened it up to Electrical and Mech engineers we saw a spike in attrition rates as they were unprepared for the hardship and disciple. Once private players set up training establishments it only got worse. These days very few join to make a career of it , most of them are in to make quick money to do something else. To join DMET and TS Dufferin you had to pass a JEE , now the bar has been substantially lowered.

As far as Salary is concerned, I have different opinion being sailing in Senior Position for last 40 years.Suppose if you get total Salary of 2.5 Lakhs in one contract of six months. 1. Actually your monthly salary becomes 1.25 Lakhs.including 6 month off period. 2. It is salary for 24 hours of engagement everyday. Even your are off duty, you will will called any time during day or night and you dont have any option to get away from this. As obedient worker you have to fulfil this otherwise you will be sent home. 3. Generally what you get I.e. 1.25 Laks per month is salary for 24 hours daily engagement to directly or indirectly. It means if you take 8 hours of duty in to account as applicable to shore jobs. Your monthly salary becomes approx. 40 thousands per month. In view of busy schedule of vessels, port maintenance work, Port state control visits and various surveys. there are rare chances of shore leave to refresh yourself. Your are visiting many ports and cities only for record purpose. When you come home, you have to be always busy with various courses and your exams which are increasing day by day.in the name of developement in the industry. You will be deprived of some good and bad events in your parents, wife and kids life. Many cases are there that they could not attend birth of child or death of beloved one. This is big disadvantage and you will definately regret during your whole sea life. This is a field where there is no value for talent and practical experience. Your competency and expertise based on theoretical exams taken ashore by people who have been away from sea for whole life. Most of them even not sailed for 10 years.

I finished my engineering 2007,got selected in campus with Elite Mariners, by 2015 I have cleared my Class 1 ,and by 2018 I got promoted as chief engineer ,Life at sea has its pros and cons , but if u want to quit sailing earlier the better
Merchant navy is only good for Deck mates from India. Think only age of 18 year to qualify sea going and becomes mates at the age of 21 year. After this start misbehaving with other Indians because of high salary and fastest promotion policy. Master is commanding officer but always biased. Bitter but true.

Merchant navy is a Hard and Danger job. Beside this you are lucky if you get ship in time otherwise people has wait for 3 to 4 yrs to get one ship. Second con is home sickness in starting it's fine but as time passed family become big issue. 3 rd is very low social life. Think twice before joining it, coz after spending crucial years no guarantee of Govt jobs.

Shore leave salary actually depends on company.for example shell shipping company offers round the year wages.chutti pe bhi salary aati hai.
Average company and below average company ka bhi status bataiye zara .
Out of 100 only 3-4 companies provide salary throughout the year ...
Round the year salary is much more lower than what you get in contracts.. In round the year salary you are bound to sail 8 months.
