Just great to see this tutorial. Drones provide amazing footage that years ago, could only be obtained by flying in a small plane or helicopter. Also, it's interesting to be shown what the future holds for Mapperton's fields, and outlying buildings. Look forward to seeing their progress.
I would recommend that you look at videos done by Suzanna Compton. She has spent years cultivating multi species swards. Dung beetles play a part. Todays video shows some of the third-five plants she has in her sheep pastures, including yarrow and trefoil which are natural wormers. She can be found at Zwartbles Ireland Suzanna Compton. Her work has brought a lot of birds and wildlife.
This was utterly fascinating. In so many ways. Luke (& his team) has such an interesting range of estate based tasks and projects to undertake and grapple with.
Luke, thank you for explaining how drones work, they're fascinating. Also love the woods, how lucky you all are to have such a beautiful place to enjoy nature. New to the channel so not sure if you have a video of going through the woods or any footage of the interior. The estate is amazing, but it also shows just how much work and responsibility you and Julie have taking care of it.
You need to attach one of those Apple discs to your drone next time so you can locate it if it gets lost. I’m old and I’m going to have my daughter put one on me when I become senile.
Bonjour! Ian here, and I really appreciate this video! I got my drone pilot license last summer and I have been practicing (playing) with my drones ever since. They are such a useful tool, especially for examining very tall chateau rooftops 😉 I am currently starting to fly FPV drones to fly INSIDE of the chateau 😳 very fun and exciting! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you !! As a person who defines herself has being of the dinosaur age, I found this episode quite interesting being as how it is about new technology. I was much impressed by Luke's calmness under stress and by Stevens reassurance that all is well. I enjoyed this video greatly.
I've been curious about how drones work, so this has been very interesting in addition to learning about all you are doing - so thanks very much! All the best from New Mexico!
Yes. I agree. I was wondering too. I was thinking as we were watching if there is any way to create a small temporary drone network to relay the signal.
Do you expect much change to the soil structure, nutrient content and ability to hold water etc. as the land rewilds? Also maybe icarus for the drone, although that's perhaps too disastrous a name 😄
I think you should name the drone Julie 2. You know the reference from the movie "Little shop of horrors". Steven should name his Bob. 😁 Have fun with it!
I have a few questions? Why did counsel give you a hard time on campsite when it’s on you own property? 2. What did you mean by insects are declining? I live in Ohio USA - Kathy. Love the show!
Did you mention if the white dots were cows or lambs ? And sorry, but Julie was somehow missing a bit, at least for me. As for the drone, we also have one and as a female it s not that thrilling but its nice to see you, thanks for your friendly comment. And yes, spectacular views. One gets a really good impression of the original estate.
Drone name suggestions. male -Arlo,King,Polaris, capitan, wanderer, professor, Sparrowavi (short for Aviator) Lion. female - Laconia, Aquila ( after eagle in italian)Elizabeth, bellatrix(After a star) ,dream, gypsy,Queen, Fairy, ivy ,bluebell, new rose. Nice how everything is so green👑🍃🌾🌳🌷
Very informative regarding the rewinding project and drone „etiquette“! I also disagree with the council. A farm building with a corrugated roof is as much of an eyesore as a tent. Maybe shepherd huts could be more to the council‘s liking.
Do you just let it go fallow or seed with grasses and wildflower? The best hand tool purchase I ever made was a battery sawsall to deal with wild cedars along fence lines!
I also oppose the decision of the council for the same reason as you Luke :/ I hope they seriously re-think that decision and allow people to glamp in that area
Was there mass spraying there like the US did back in the 70s and 80s? There was a huge loss of bird and bat life here because they just didn't have food to eat because everything had been sprayed.
Le Chameau also offers free shipping to the U.S. That impresses me!😊
Great video as usual!
The drone footage is gorgeous! Very interesting to think about how high and far you can fly the drone.
Such spectacular views! Very entertaining and informative! Love the interaction with Luke and Stephen!
That was a whole lot of boys with toys vibes 😊

Beautiful video, a wonderful overview👍
The drone footage is so beautiful! I enjoyed listening to Luke describe what we were seeing!! Terrific video! Love from Vermont

That's fantastic Ian! Did you manage to get the drone flying successfully inside the Chateau?
Amazing footage! Thank you Luke and Stephen!
Thank you for explaining pollarding and coppicing. Beautiful landscape!

Me too; they're amazing, provide footage that when I was a lot younger, was impossible to get unless in a small plane or helicopter.

Name for Luke's drone: Doran - This name is derived from 'O Deorain', and means 'wanderer'.
Beautiful landscapes... Deirdre & Fred ... For absolutely no reason whatsoever lol
Feeling of dread washes over me 😂 Love this gentleman!
This is so neat! Beautiful!

very interesting to hear about the project and the history. Thank you!
I just love this!! Stunning visual experience

Luke, I'm just curious why were you talkin about removing cedar trees? Why are cedar trees that you do not want on your land?
My guess is because they're not native, and with the re-wilding they're looking to bring back how it used to be. :)
How about you name your drones Mappie and VieBien??!!
"Suzy" the drone❤
Great toys👍🏻
I also oppose the decision of the council for the same reason as you Luke :/ I hope they seriously re-think that decision and allow people to glamp in that area
Great fun!!
What is that building at the place you started with the drône ? 🤔
Why shouldn't you have conifer trees?
The white drone: Sheila. The...guessing it's a dark colour drone: Patrick.
Boys and their toys- the racing drones.
Name for Stephen's drone: Rover.
Female name for Luke's drone, would be the UK Victoria. Male name for Steven's drone would be VC Luke.
Name that drone Arrabella Mapperton
Was there mass spraying there like the US did back in the 70s and 80s? There was a huge loss of bird and bat life here because they just didn't have food to eat because everything had been sprayed.
Jack and Diane. 🤭
Luke’s drone… Sally.. Steven’s …. George
Amelia Buzzbee, drone
"She". Perfect for flying and boating!
Luke is a bit like Peter Pan, so of course he can fly...
Aerial
I hope you leave the dead trees to do their thing because they provide habitat for beetles.
I’ll throw Giselle out there for a drone name. 👋🏼
Mapperton drone needs to be called Kevin. (she can be female and called Kevin!)
