I think people forget there's a lot of MTBers with families that need trail centres that can offer a full range of trail grades. Every rider shredding Dyfi started on easier stuff. MTB Parents can also split childcare responsibilities between looking after the kids on the easier stuff and then swapping to a few runs on the reds/blacks. Not possible at places like Dyfi. You're also not having to spend a small fortune on uplift costs, which can be hundreds of pounds over a weekend in places like BPW.
Revistied this place yesterday after about 10 years and decided to take a run at the Beast, after over 20 years of riding I can confirm that I now have an 'eb' in my collection and to be honest a solo run at the Beast was one of the best choices I could have made. This is a great location and the trails an enough of a challenge for even experienced riders, I will be coming back and if it does close it would be a great loss.
What I don't understand is why the centre is under threat of closing? If I remember correctly the centre was built with EU funding. If the forestry can't make a business work that the building was built for free on land they own, then they shouldn't be in charge of anything let alone the legacy that is our woods. Is this not to do with everything they run needs to be profitable? What they have to remember is they are a service and not there to make massive profits for unnecessary staff or over inflated wages. Let's not forget that CYB was the first MTB trail centre in the world. Something to keep.
Went to coed-y-brenin 2 weeks ago for the first time did the beast and tar du, ruined me even on the ebike 😂 loved it though and your previous uploads helped me prepare, I will definitely be visiting again. You make it look easy.
still the best trail centre, just got that little bit of wow factor and gnarl over landegla, cannock, fod etc, cafe has gone shite, pastys cold sandwiches, choccy bars thats it, great vid as always
That brought back great memories Jim, how the MTB world has moved on hey ! Ride experiences are so different these days, wonderful to watch and as you said very nostalgic ❤
Arrived just as y😅u were leaving . The heavens opened no need to get in the river . It’s a fun spot . Really lovely scenery history . Wipes the floor with Llandegla . My boy races welsh enduro and he still gets a bang out of it . Big up the Brenin 👍
Nice mellow XC vid, Jim. Felt relaxing to watch. Took my Moxie hardtail there a couple of months ago. Rocky sections are brutal on a HT but such a nice place to visit (and to drive to) 👌👍
Totally love CyB! As one of the places where I got bitten by the MTB bug it’s got a special place in my heart and I try and go at least once a year. True that some development to the trails would benefit it, but still a lot of fun as it is. Bit sad to see some of the original centres losing a bit of their magic, guess they’ve got some serious competition now.
Jim, what a great vid. Really, you should be pleased with this one. You’ve told a really great story. I’ve never been, but next Welsh trip I’m off for a visit. I like your setup for ArdRock: best of luck 🎉 Speaking of which, I like that top: the material looks at least as good as DFYRS. And good luck with the neck trick: you deserve an improvement. And what do you use to record your Strava?
I still ride my local trail centre once a week without fail alongside my favoured natural trails. Yes it's easy & low tech but from a fitness point a of view I cover a decent chunk of time in every heart rate zone in a 90min ride. Keeps the engine in good condition like no other.
All the best for ard rock fellas Both days Jim!! You beast 😂 Personally I think there’s a definite need for trail centres gives people progression saying that I haven’t ridden CyB, one of them that’s on the list, Good news on the numbness. Do you ever find yourself crashing after the gels
The beast is too much fire road for me but i do love the mix and match like you’ve done here… you’re right though, the facilities are really good (surprised me seeing showers) and it’s kept wonderfully but again the times ive been, it’s perhaps not busy enough to sustain…. Also the shenanigans going on with air ambulance is a massive detriment to the area over on-site medical staff at somewhere like bpw (something the youngers probably don’t consider)
@@PinnedTV demo days seem to give other places a big buzz…as do organised events like the freeze one they did recently ( a couple of friends had a good time doing that) more of those would deffo create more traffic 👍🏻
I’ve been twice this year feb and early July, 260miles round trip to get there and enjoyed both trips, great trails, food and amenities, it would be a shame if places like here where to close due to lack of use. The Beast is a proper testing trail. Support the centres.
Still looks good. It's a shame people have stopped going as much. I believe the cafe has gone downhill and puts people off going. I've heard they may be looking for someone to take over the running of the centre, but the costs are massive. Good luck at Ard rock👍
Ta Jim. Might take the mrs, just got an eeb she's managed dalby, only just 😂. I've done ard rock years back,as a grand veteran novice and loved it. can never get a ticket these days.
Budgets are constrained for everyone but especially for Natural Resources Wales. I think they cant keep up with the bills that the buildings and cafe etc cost so they were thinking of closing them - but it was their income that would fund the upkeep of the trails etc! I guess no centre (buildings) or cafe means no trails in the future? NRW owns lots of trail centres etc that don't earn much money for them so I guess something has to give budget wise? Maybe they could sell off some areas of woodland and place the cash into trust for the funding of its outdoor activity areas?
Good look with the race and what saddle do you have on that bike I’m trying to find a comfortable saddle for my current bike as the saddle that came on my bike is awful thanks .
Good vid Jim, been there a few times especially when it was all on the other side of the rd. Still a good place but like other places in Wales, if you live the wrong side of Shrewsbury then the rediculose 20mph limits makes it not worth while doing a day trip anymore unless you're over that way. Plenty of other places to go to.

Yeh it’s like they don’t care in the cafe
The decline of the cafe has been pretty sad, it used to be great value and great food.
@markmurphy7843 yeh and a right bustling place
What a great vid mate . Ive never been to Coed y Brenin...looks really good.
Check it out bro

The beast is a proper trail, love it and the Emtb makes it even more fun 🤟
Yeh done that on a. Eeb it’s great
Great video, I love coed y brenin, great mix of trails, think the trails will stay open but the visitor centre, cafe and shop might be changing
Thanks for the info!
Ive never been but part of riding mtb for me is the mental reset so this place looks perfect.

Agree!
Love it there, first trail centre so it'd be a real shame if it closed. Heading there soon and cant wait
Awesome
Love the Occam LT, the best trail bike I've ridden for sure. I also got mine in galactic rainbow 😂
Ah cool
Also the Marin and Penmachno both top trail rides 🤟
Yeh need to get back there
Heading to Coed y Brenin in September really looking forward to it, my type of trails.
You’ll love it

They could all do with a bit of upgrading bringing in some new feature's, it wouldn’t hurt

Hi guys,
I'm doing Ard Rock for the first time this weekend. Is there anything that you recommend bringing or taking for the event?
Thanks!
Very tough tyres and a rear insert.
@@PinnedTV noted. Going to bring spare tyres and spear rear wheel.
@mylesfairhurst9226 even better!
Where did you get the bike moustache chain link from please?
Google bike must stash
Hey Jim, didn’t catch the name of the company that makes the quick link storage compartment - who is it ? Cheers

Nonsense. You’ll barely touch 20 mph areas to get there or most areas around Wales. It’s a rural country
I thought that 20mph was just advisory! 😂
my local gets boring riding it every week
I get that with mine too
The climbs are a killer for me. Otherwise it is a lot of fun.
True dat
Went there once last year never again to much climbing and the downs are quite slow
😂😂
