I used to like the slightly bumbling old duffer. He played the part so well, it was believable but had elements of humour in it too.
Nigel Bruce enjoyed doing the radio show because he was able to give Watson intelligence as narrator, quit different then the comical depiction of the movies he was in.
That's great to know. Honestly, the only "complaint" I have about Bruce's Watson is that they make him too much of a comic relief.
